They lead off the broadcast with a tease about the strong economic numbers, but they just couldn't leave it at that without somehow painting the positive in a negative light.
Williams said(paraphrasing), "America received outstanding news about the economy today, but are there warning signs on the horizon."

So they teased the economy story, so naturally that'll lead right into it, right? Hell no! Williams then says, "So sorry we can't go into that now, because...TEN PEOPLE DIED IN IRAQ TODAY!!!" Nice going, NBC. There's more than 2,000 dead in Iraq, but 10 dead is your lead story over surprisingly good economic news? Nice bodybag count you've got there.
Anyway, I do have to rack NBC's sense of humor. Following the economic news story, Williams questioned why Bush's approval ratings could still be so low if the job numbers and all are so much better.
