TCU tragedy

CONROE, Texas -- TCU football player Kasey Davis was shot to death early Tuesday morning, according to police.

Davis, a redshirt freshman kicker who was a walk-on with the Horned Frogs, attended high school in this suburb north of Houston.

Police found Davis, 20, in his car in the parking lot of an apartment complex with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Witnesses gave a description of the suspect, and police made an arrest near the apartment just minutes later. Conroe police said the suspect, Jeffrey Clay Lasiter, had a rifle in the front seat of his car when he was pulled over.

Lasiter, 40, has been charged with murder and is in the Montgomery County Jail. Police are unsure of a motive but said their investigation is ongoing.

Davis was apparently visiting friends at the apartment complex, police said.

Davis played in two games for TCU this season, against Oklahoma and Colorado State, both as a kickoff specialist.

"TCU is very saddened to learn of this tragic occurrence," TCU coach Gary Patterson said in a statement. "Kasey was a team player and had a great future at TCU. He will be greatly missed. Our hearts and minds are with his family during this difficult time."

The 14th-ranked Horned Frogs beat Iowa State 27-24 in the Houston Bowl on Saturday. Classes at TCU resume Jan. 17.

Kid's father lives in OKC and is a dentist, reportedly. He tried to walk on at OU before he went to TCU.
