Stoops to Kansas City?
Kansas City seems to be a buzz with talk of Stoops.
Kevin Keitzman on 810 reportedly did everything but offer Bob a blow job on air yesterday according to what I have heard from family and read on the net.
I have an employee who is an OU grad, and like me is also a Chiefs fan. We have been discussing this for a few days and think it would be a bad move for both Bob and KC.
KC's defense is atrocious and brining in Bob is not going to improve this anytime soon with the pieces that are in place. It is only setting both Bob and the Chiefs for failure and digging an even deeper hole for KC to climb out of.

BTW Herm is NOT to blame for the Jets' horrible season. Hell, they lost more than 1/2 their starting offensive and defensive roster to injury. Now they have BAD cap issues and an aging roster, so why the hell would Herm stick around at what they're currently paying him to deal with that horseshit? No sane coach would.
In 5 seasons with the Jets, Herm has a record of 39-41 and a playoff record of 2-3. I would think there would be better candidates for the Chiefs out there. Not saying his horrible, just saying he's average.

To get Herm, we have to give up draft picks. I don't want to give up draft picks.
I don't want Stoops, either. Not that he wouldn't make a fine NFL coach eventually, but the transition period is too great. See Nick Saban early season struggles.
I want to win NOW, and Al Saunders is the man to get us to the promised land.
The clock is ticking....

I thought when Vermeil retired it was under the assumption that Peterson was going to give Saunders the HC position. Saunders was Vermeils chosen successor I had read, Herms a good coach, but what has he really done in the NFL? His teams have underachieved IMO, agood example was last years choke against the Steelers. I'm VERY interested in seeing what will play out.

There'll be less crying, and that's an improvement.Joe in PB wrote:Al Saunders?
I don't see him as any improvement over Versqueal.
Al has been the mastermind behind arguably the best offense in the NFL the past few years. I say that keeping that going is a good thing.
As for defense, let Gun continue to whip those sorry fucks into something resembling a cohesive unit...get the fuck rid of Kendrell Bell...and we might have something to work with next year.

I was fishing BtH. Why'd ya have to steal the thunder so soon?Believe the Heupel wrote:Interview with Stoops on the Sports Animal earlier today:
Al Eschbach: "Are you going to be the next coach of the Kansas City Chiefs?"
Bob Stoops: "You know, I don't know where all that comes from. It's funny, I just caught wind of it today. I don't sit around and monitor what the pulse of my well-being is or what everybody thinks I'm doing.
"But I took a couple days off, and in fact I was at the...you guys ever been to the Ardmore Wildnerness area down there? I just took my children and it was the best. So, coming back people are calling me about all this. I don't know where all that comes from.
"No, that's not something I'm looking to do. I love what I'm doing here. I feel our future's incredibly bright. We still have more to do here. And again, I'm excited too much about what I'm doing.
"I don't know where people...somebody called and told me I had already interviewed for a job. You don't have a job like I have and you go interviewing. That's what I don't think people get. I'm not going to be going interviewing for anything.
"I do know a lot of these people around the league that I am friends with and know pretty well that if I speak with them those are private conversations, and I'm not going to divulge whether I have or haven't spoke to anybody. But I'm not going to interview anywhere and be one of five candidates trying to get a job. That doesn't make sense in the position we're in here and what our future looks like here."
Jim Traber: When you hear these things, are they flattering or are they just a pain in the neck?
Bob Stoops: "They're neither. It's always decent, not that people around the media and fan base are talking about it, it's more you appreciate it if people in the league do recognize you as a person that they want to speak with, or they think you could do a good job. Those kind of things.
You appreciate that they feel your body of work or what you stand for is what they're looking for. But outside of that, I don't look at it as a pain because I'm not sitting around monitoring it.
I didn't even realize...a couple of friends called today and said, "You better...' And I'm like, 'What are you talking about?' Well, they said for the last two or three days everybody's talking about this (Kansas City rumors).
Well, I don't know. I'm not sitting there listening to it. I don't have the radio on and I'm not on any computers following anything. I just took a couple days outside of recruiting and just got away.
Anyhow, it really doesn't bother me either. I just don't pay much attention to it.
Al Escbhach: "Now Bob, I've got a bet with Dean (Blevins) and I'll grease your palm if you help me win this thing. He says in five years you will not be the coach at OU. I say you will be."
Bob Stoops: "Well, what's it worth to you Al? What kind of greasing you talking about?
"It's not fair to say. Put it this way, I hope I'm wanted here in five years. I intend to be here that long or longer, but you never know.
"You just don't know in this business whether you'll be wanted to be around, how the climate in this world changes is always different. Again, I feel great and fortunate to be in the position we're in here and what we've accomplished and what the future looks like.
"So, I hope to be. I'm not looking to do anything else, but you gotta admit from year to year you don't always know what's in front of you or what you need to do and the changes that happen within your family.
"Again, hopefully everything continues as it is and that people are hoping I'm still here."

As an AFC East fan I will be sad to see Herm go. Quite honestly it was 2 guaranteed wins every year. Every team deals with injuries but all I saw from him was excuses. IMO he is not a very good coach at all.He is too much of a "players coach". I most certainly would not give up anything like draft picks to get him.

Of all the candidates, Al Saunders is the best choice, IMHO. Thats based soley on past accomplishments, and the fact that he was lead to believe the job would be his when he came back here. I have no clue if he would really do a decent job, nor care, but he deserves the chance.
Beyond that ...... its about an hour before the bar closes. Not as bad as closing time when there isnt a decent piece of ass in the place, but ....... you get the idea. Nothing that really knocks your socks off, out there this season.
Id be good with Stoops. Hes worth a shot.
At this point, looks like none of it matters. Sounds like Herm is the guy. If so, then so be it. Theres plenty of uglier chicks in the bar right now.

I don't think John Shaw ever got over Martz losing to NE in the Super Bowl , especially when Martz seemed to refuse to run the ball in the second half . Plus , add Martz's poor game management , reaches on his drafts maybe might have had to make Armey step in on some of the personnel decisions , and Martz's choice for a DC after Lovie Smith turned out to be a disaster . Plus , Martz basically running Warner out of town , his paranoia over his control over the team , more bad draft picks , and his QBs getting killed because of the passing scheme ( I read somewhere that Bulger wasn't all the sad about Martz leaving ) , and his health all lead to a much needed departure , due to all the drama and friction .e wrote:i'd rather see Fisher end up in STL. STL and KC are in pretty similar situations as far as the teams on the field. good passing game, young badass running backs (with Johnson getting the nod over Jackson) taking over for older great backs, and underachieving defenses. the main difference might be dealing with the front office. by most accounts, peterson in KC is a bastard to deal with. in STL, it remains to be seen if the friction between Martz and the front office was because of him or if it was a combination of control freak personalities trying to run things. maybe bace or someone in STL and is a little closer could shed some light on that.
Martz would have been canned last season if Georgia wasn't licking his nutsack . Once she saw the stadium seats empty , she didn't care for Martz much anymore , IMO .
I don't think Martz will make a good HC , because he is basically a nutcase .
