It's a very predictable decision, and I can't blame Young for making it.

Buy low, sell high.

He's 'selling' himself when he's at a peak, and there is NO guarantee at all that he'll be at the same peak at this time 365 days from now.

Another year of college is generally a good thing for a college QB.
More chance to mature.
Young's case is a bit different though because he is not at all a prototypical pocket passer.
He needs to become a better thrower of the football to succeed in the NFL, and if he goes back to Tejas for another year does anyone really think he'll be fine-tuning that aspect of his game.
I don't.
I think he'll spend the year doing just what he did so brilliantly v. USC in the Rose Bowl.
Run, run, short pass, run, run, run a little more, short pass.......

I think he'll be an exciting NFL playah.

Good take Tart. He needs to come to the NFL and hold a clipboard for a year or two.... learn how to throw the ball better- the running will always be there.

Doesn't hurt that McNair has been a mentor of sorts for Vince the last few years.

That would be good for Tennessee.. give McNair another year or two- he can mentor Young directly- and then they are ready to come out.
As an Indy fan- don't much like the prospect of seeing him in the South and having to face him twice a year- but I agree with ya Paul... Yikes

But, in all honesty, with all of the "I'm definitely coming back to Texas next year" that Young was throwing around, I was almost starting to believe it myself. Maybe I'm kind of a hardass about such things, but if I was a NFL GM, I would have noted the guy's willingness to lie in your face for his personal gain...red flag against his character #1...but I'm kind of a hardass when it comes to keeping one's word. If Texas and their vast fanbase couldn't trust him after all they've done for him, I don't think I'd be feeling too trustworthy towards him, either. Then again, it's hard to trust anybody when there's millions and millions of dollars on the line.

And I absolutely hate the watering down of the glory that IS CFB. But, end of the day, I think VY is doing the right thing. For the most part, isn't the primary reason, or certainly one of the primary reasons to go to college to put yourself in a position to maximize your income in your chosen field after you leave school? I doubt dude's stock is going to go up a whole heck of a lot more than it is now, but a well-placed Carson Palmer to the knee could sure make it plummet. If he's in line for a deece contract making big bucks RIGHT NOW, then he'd be a fool not to take it.

His declaration throws a nice little wrench in the draft...should be a good offseason for us airchair GMs. We'll have a whole buncha "they should have taken So and So" in the next couplefew years.

100% in agreement with this statement. That is certainly why most people go to college is to max their income over their lifetime.

I wouldn't be too harsh on VY about his pre-Rose Bowl comments. He probably meant "yeah, I'm definitely coming back unless I put the entire team on my back and win in the last 20 seconds, and vault into the top three picks of the upcoming draft..." Besides, here in Houston, I heard him quoted many times saying he would evaluate at the end of the season...

Yup, that's what I translated that to, as well.
