Yeah, like writing the script for the Skins/Hags game before it happened.

Sorry, dude, but I'm old enough to remember those early years. And the guy put someone on the spot every single game. There's a reason he went 0-3 in the Big One, until the Donks' management realized that they needed defense to win. Of course, true to form, Elway was very quick to point out that those SB victories were all him (OK, not quite, but "humble" and Elway NEVER belong in the same sentence). Dude should get on his kneees and thank Terrell Davis, Steve Atwater, Bill Romanowski, and one of the best OLines to ever play the game, for helping him shed his choking image.

I am Ninerfan. I know a thing or two about having your QB put his team on his shoulders and carry them to victory -- and Elways wasn't the guy for that. He led a lot of comebacks because he often mailed it in for the first 3 quarters, resulting in deficits.

What happened when #16 donned a Chef's uni and went head-to-head with Elways again? What happened when Joe went head-to-head with Elway in the Super Bowl again?

Elway got to the Bowl 5 times because management put together excellent defenses on a regular basis. In 3 attempts, Elway made a complete fool of himself, and was badly outplayed. Against GB, he didn't play well, although history tried to rewrite that the very next day. He was lucky that his teammates that actually had some stones picked the team up and led them to victory, since their "leader" sure the hell didn't...but was sure quick to take credit for it, which he surely wouldn't have had the result gone the other way.

I liked the Steelers straight up, but not enough to wager my hard-earned cash on.

But given a 9.5 point head start? I'll take that all week long, and twice on Sunday.

21-10, nice reception by Clark.

All the Steelers have to do is run the ball and the clock.

Thanks for proving my point that he took those shit Bronco teams farther than they ever deserved to go. Thats called talent.

Agreed. Those key elements (And ratahans scheme that freed Elway up to be more creative in the passing game) are what finally got him over the hump.
I am Ninerfan. I know a thing or two about having your QB put his team on his shoulders and carry them to victory -- and Elways wasn't the guy for that.
Wrong. Elway was. I witnessed it firsthand for many years.
He led a lot of comebacks because he often mailed it in for the first 3 quarters, resulting in deficits.
Christ.

I havent heard something this fucking dumb uttered in a looooooong time.

:meds:
What happened when #16 donned a Chef's uni and went head-to-head with Elways again? What happened when Joe went head-to-head with Elway in the Super Bowl again?
Who's comparing one of the greatest NFL QB's to the greatest of all time? Not I.

As far as comparisons go, i'm with you every step of the way. Joe Cool was simply a God, and im grateful that I got to grow up with and witness such a marvelous talent.

The rest of your argument is weak at best-Elway was a great clutch QB who took many of his sub-par teams to heights they didnt deserve to be because of his talent. End of story.

Your 'Elway' description matches my "Marino" description to a tee.

At least we can agree on something.

The next time Dungy performs well in a bigbig game situation will be the first.

Although I'm sure that tomorrow morning, Whitey will somehow get blamed for this one.

Too bad Dungy doesn't have Alstott anymore. He'd be running up the middle to lead the comeback.

I looked through a couple threads and this is the only call you seem to have made:

Heck, I'll take NE no spread.

Your lack of NFL knowledge makes you a perfect fit for Main Street threads, but you should steer clear of actual football debate in here.

Uhm...I not only called the Seattle/Skins game, I called it against the spread, and I pretty much detailed EXACTLY what would go down. Don't mistake your own shortcomings when it comes to reading as any shortcoming of mine.

And while I might have not called my shot on this board before the game started, if you for one second think I give a shit about what you think about my prognostication skills (although the NE call sucked, sure), then you're sorely mistaken. What I DO know, is that my shitty-odds parlay card (which NE already nixed) has Pittsburg +9.5. So I didn't just call my shot...I put my money where my mouth wasn't. I called my shot early and often to everyone I knew, and laid down cayshe to boot.

Ridiculous overturn of a call.

Unbelievable.
I hate sigs. But I lost a stupid fucking bet because a KC Paul lookalike and his sorry ass team were inferior to the greatness that is the Pittsburg Steelers.

Rules? He rolled over and BOTH knees touched the ground. That was an awful call and I would LOVE to hear the rule that overturned it.

The rule that was explained quite clearly last week, that says if a player goes to the ground making a catch, he must have control the entire time, including after he hits the ground.

Been the same rule for a long long time. Nothing new here.
