CoCo Crispies

Post by Jack »

CLEVELAND -- Arthur Rhodes' physical will determine whether or not the Coco Crisp-to-Boston deal finalizes or fizzles.
Rhodes was in Philadelphia on Friday afternoon taking a physical that would complete a trade sending the 36-year-old reliever from the Indians to the Phillies in exchange for outfielder Jason Michaels, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.

Once that deal goes through, the source said, the Indians and Red Sox would agree to a trade sending Crisp to the Red Sox.

The Indians would send the center fielder, reliever David Riske and backup catcher Josh Bard to Boston for reliever Guillermo Mota, third base prospect Andy Marte, catching prospect Kelly Shoppach and further compensation in the form of cash or a player to be named later..

All of New England has grown weary waiting for this deal to be done!!

It looks as though it may be completed this weekend..

Thoughts?....

Done deal

They fill 2 needs with the trade, plus have him under contract for 4 years. Not exactly a block buster, but a good move. Riske is less risky in the pen than Mota and prospects are the unknown.

Now all Theo needs to do is sign Alex Gonzalez to play short and that old fat dude from Houston and all will be well in THE NATION

Yeah. Sounds like it's done.

With this deal in place, doesn't Coco bring a little extra baggage?
Didn't he have problems not pertaining to baseball in Cleveland?

W/Veritek as the designated future catcher, I can see why they let Kelly Shoppach go. Mark my words, though. Shoppach is gonna be huge and put up assinine numbers!

Coco's numbers pretty much match Damons, but will he be able to adjust to the spotlight that is Red Sox baseball?

Can he drive Papi's car?

Elaborate... I never heard of any problems.

Consider your words, MARKED!!

I don't understand the added players in this deal though..

Kelly Shoppach and Guillermo Mota for Josh Bard and David Riske

A catcher and a reliever for .. A catcher and a reliever !!

Catcher for Catcher
Josh Bard - born 1978 - 2 years Pro experience- touted as a prospect but never able to hit well in the Pros. Good Defensive catcher!

Kelly Shoppach - Born 1980 - limited Pro experience.. touted as a prospect, not able to hit in his brief stints in the Pros.. I've seen him play at Pawtucket.. He is good (in the minor leagues)

Seems like a wash to me. Bard may be a tad better but is 2 years older. It's like trading a quarter for 2 dimes and a dirty nickel!
______________________________________________

Reliever for Reliever

David Riske - born 1976 .. 5 yrs Pro experience. Has periods of excellence followed by periods of slumps..
He throws between 88-92 MPH, but he's usually between 90-91 MPH. He has good deception on the fastball and offsets it with a splitter. Riske always has been able to get both lefties and righties out, which makes him more than a matchup reliever.

Guillermo Mota - born 1973 .. 6 yrs Pro Experience.. Used to pitch with Eric Gagne as setup man .. has all the pitches to be a top-rate closer, though he is still mostly untested in the role. He features a 94-96 MPH fastball, a plus change he learned from Gagne and a slider he doesn't throw as much as he should. For someone with such velocity, Mota has a strange tendency to lean too heavily on his change. ?? of injury

Mota has the experience and history of success. Mota has closed games successfully. There is question of injury but it doesn't sound severe..

Seems like Mota is the better pitcher but is a little older and may have a slight injury.. It's like trading a undented can of refried beans for a dented can of refried beans and nachos.

____________________________________________________
Crisp's 2005 Salary: $364,900
Marte's 2005 Salary: $Minor League
Riske's 2005 Salary: $1,425,000
Mota's 2005 Salary: $2,600,000
Shoppach's 2005 Salary: $Minor League
Bard's 2005 Salary: $317,900
____________________________________________________

Can someone explain why these 4 ( 2 for 2) were traded?

Riske will definitely take a lot of pressure off the rest of the bullpen when he is solely responsible for blowing game after game this summer.

CoCo Crisp Story

My real first name is Covelli, but my great-grandmother [Wilda Smith] called me Co. She would be like, "Come here, Co." Growing up, we used to have Cocoa Krispies cereal in the house, so my sister and godbrother figured out they could make fun of me. The box had that monkey on it with the big ears, and when I was a kid I had a little head with huge protruding ears. Once I got into Double A, they asked me to write my nickname on a questionnaire. I wrote COCO. The next game it was up on the scoreboard.

On his father Loyce's boxing career

He was unbelievable as an amateur. He was called Sugar. Sugar Crisp.

 Rack. Papi is one guy who gets it. I don't know where I heard that Coco was a bad seed. It might've been in http://www.sonsofsamhorn.com

I've changed my stance on him. I think I like this guy already.
