I didn't expect him to end up with the job, so this doesn't surprise me.
Nobody knows what transpired between Oakland and this candidate.
All speculation.
Funny thing to me is that everyone seems to be certain that Whis is gonna be a very good/great NFL head coach.
Maybe, maybe not.
I guess he's the 'hot' name at this present time.
We've seen a LOT of up and coming o-coordinators flame when they became a head man, haven't we...?
Of course.
When Oakland makes it's hire I'll be glad to give my take on it.
'Til then it's all coffee table chit chat.

The man who was universaly regarded as the reason the Raiders have postponed their search for a head coach until after the Super Bowl doesn't even give Davis a chance to not offer him the job and Poptart thinks all is well.
I guess myopia know no bounds.
And Bobby Petrino also told Alice to fuck off? At this rate, the Raiders will be lucky to get James Lofton to sign on the dotted line.

I don't think it was his play calling that won the superbowl nor what took them their in the first place. The zebs had a lot to do with that and the offense just rode the defense's cote tails into the bowl. The last time Al took this long he hired a pretty good coach named John Gruden. So we have 8million and 4 crappy draft picks to look forward to!

Ken Wisenhunt managed an offense with a rookie QB at the helm to a 15-1 record. If you don't think Wisenhunt was a big part of Roethlisberger's development, then you obviously haven't been paying attention.Raider Loco wrote:I don't think it was his play calling that won the superbowl nor what took them their in the first place.
I know Wisenhunt is gonzo after next year. I'm just glad he chose to stick around for another year to help Ben fully asimilate the offense.
Yes, I said fully assimilate it. He's about 70% there. And he won a Super Bowl.

If you sleep, you lose. Nothing like sending Ken home with a bad taste.
It may have been an entirely different story if he would've offered him the job there. Then again, maybe not... if you wanna fuck up your coaching career, go work for Al Davis.

The bottom line is this.
Al, nor Wisecunt felt good about the interview. Al is wayyyyy too fucking stubborn to offer a deal if he thinks the candidate might be iffy. He needs a soft bitch that bends at his knees who thinks he's all encompassing of that which is called the rules of the NFL, so I guess we'll have to wait till BSmack offers his name into the mix.

Ken, considering Pittsburgh had the 3rd ranked defense and just the 16th ranked offense this past season I'd say Loco's take was fair.
The defense had more to do with the teams's success than the offense did.
I'm not knocking the offense's contributions, but if you want to compare, the defense was more outstanding.

Exactly who has felt good about any interview with Alcula this year?
The answer would be no one....or Art Shell.....maybe.
Even Rick Neuheisel indicated he would rather stay in Baltimore to tutor Kyle Boller, than be Alcula's bedpan boy.
So Art shell it is Tart....what do you think?
Not exactly inspiring.......
The only other guy with some interest is Jim Fossil......
The real question is when will Alcula wear out his welcome?

You been visiting the old folks home that Al's at? Fossil has been to the Superbowl this Millenium. Art.....well he hasn't. I think Fossil has a handle on what it takes to win in this league. I think Art would be a puppet who would rely on his glory days as an offensive lineman to milk a paycheck.poptart wrote:Given a choice between Fassel and Shell, I'd take Shell.

No hard feelings, Art, 'cuz yeah, man, you were damn close to bein' a contender.

But you guys are used to having puppets. Trust me, Cowboy fan was way too familiar with that (see Switzer, Gailey and Campo). Your owner is going to have to swallow a dose of reality before the Raiders turn this abortion around.

You give Mike Fucking Martz Tommy Maddox for 3 games and he'd have the 16th ranked offense. Loco's take was completely fucking idiotic and shows that his football knowledge is entirely lacking.poptart wrote:Ken, considering Pittsburgh had the 3rd ranked defense and just the 16th ranked offense this past season I'd say Loco's take was fair.

Sorry, 'tart, but that makes no sense. Yes, the defense was the storng suit this year. But the Stillers still would not have won the SB without the offense they had. Frankly, not sure I understand your take. If I'm reading you correctly, the Stillers may as well have saved some cash and fielded a local pop warner team for the offense since it was the D that won it all.poptart wrote:Ken, considering Pittsburgh had the 3rd ranked defense and just the 16th ranked offense this past season I'd say Loco's take was fair.

I still stand by my earlier comment that it was an idiotic take.

I'll say it, Al Davis is the reason no one wants the Raider job. No one wants to take a job where they have little or no say over what goes on,. Al wants a guy he can dictate to and control but this year no one is biting. Sorry but Art Shell doesn't excite me ,hes another of "Al's guys" and it puzzles me that shell is interested in the job considering how badly things ended in his first stint. If and when Shell is hired I see his stint ending after 2 years with him being the scapegoat once again for Davis' bad decisions.
and save the "he got us Randy Moss" line because our linebackers and secondary needed the biggest help and we got nothing. Things aren't going to chance unless Grandpa Al finally keels over or he gets knocked on the head and thinks hes Art Rooney.

It's you prattling on about a 'pop warner' offense (and other such nonsense), and then attributing it to me.
Don't be a goober.
You tried to finger-roll it over Loco, but failed to see me in the lane.
I slapped your trash into the 5th row.

Minus the times that Ben was out or playing through injury, I'd say the two sides were about dead even. You're looking at the #16 offenseive ranking and completely forgetting how misleading those stats were. The proof was in the last 8 games.poptart wrote:Geez, you're an amazing idi0t, B.
Do you think Pittsburgh wins the Super Bowl this year if they have the 16th ranked defense....?
Which side of the ball was better for the Steelers this season...?

Let's look at the last game.
Pittsurgh's 6 first half possessions in the Super Bowl:
3 plays, 1yd, Punt
3 plays, 6yds, Punt
3 plays, 0yds, Punt
5 plays, 28yds, Interception
11 plays, 59yds, Touchdown
1 play, -1yd, End of Half
Without your defense slamming the door on Seattle in the first half your team would have been in a SERIOUS hole with that kind of offensive ineptitude.
Hey, it's a team game, and heaven knows Pittsburgh's offense made plenty of big plays this year, or the team wouldn't have gone the distance.
I just don't see how one can rationally determine that the defense wasn't more stellar than the offense, overall.
It just was.

Because I've watched every single game the Steelers have played this year from September through February. I even watched a few preseason games. I know that team inside and out. And I can tell you that when both the offense and defense were at full strength, they graded out just about the same for the whole year. For every Seattle game where the D took over, they had a Bronco game where the O stepped up. The exception was when Maddox was under center and when Ben came back from his injury to face Indy and Cincinatti in consecutive weeks. I don't know about you, but having your franchise QB try to play those games after 3 weeks off, with a surgicaly repaired knee and with a busted up thumb that won't get fully repaired until this offseason isn't exactly a realistic way to grade your offense. And it damn sure isn't realistic to include Maddox's starts when determining how well Wisenhunt has managed Roethlisberger. But hey, that's the way the NFL office does it.poptart wrote:I just don't see how one can rationally determine that the defense wasn't more stellar than the offense, overall.
Of course, as it is, the Steelers still finished in the top 5 in rushing for the league and Ben finished the year with 8.9 yards an attempt.

My point is that Loco's point, was, well, pretty fucking stupid for lack of better phrases. To insinuate in the least that the Stillers made the SB solely becasue of their defense is well, again, pretty fucking stupid.
By agreeing with loco, you're elevating yourself to the rarified air only those stupid enough to do so, call their home.
You can pull whatever stats you wish to prove otherwise (wow, total offense... rack you), but the Steeler offense was definitely not 'average' by the stats the rest of us choose to reference... enough to win the SB.
Oh, and I saw you in the lane... don't think for a NY minute that I wouldn't expect idiot raider fan to come to another idiot raider fan's defense. I just didn't effing care... 'cuz, well... you're raider fan.

Raiders: Shell talks were a courtesy
The News
The San Francisco Chronicle characterized the discussions between the Raiders and former head coach Art Shell merely as a "courtesy." Owner Al Davis met with Shell late last week and is expected to interview Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt on Wednesday.
Our View
The Raiders have all but put their eggs in Whisenhunt's basket. Should he choose the stability and professionalism of the Steelers over a chance to capitalize on his Super Bowl win, Oakland will have to go back to a drawing board that has only names like Jim Fassel, James Lofton, and John Shoop on it.
Butkus didn't wear an earring.
Yeah, and ...........
Wiggin, Bettis, Levy, Mackovic, Ganz, Shottenheimer, Cuntingham, and Dickless have all been stepping stones which connect the unparalleled promise of greatness that Herm (what down is it?) Edward is certain to bring, to the last significant KC football moment, matriculated 36 years ago under the guidance of the Porkulant one.
It's been a helluva run.

From this morning's Post Gazzette...
Pretty much says it all. The NFL should just contract the Raiders until they get adult leadership. While the Raiders were offering Whisenhunt good money to become their coach -- more than $2 million annually -- they declined to give him the kind of control over the football operations he felt he needed.
The Raiders job is seen as a coaching graveyard by many in the NFL because of the meddling Davis, who has gone through five coaches in the past 10 years, including Norv Turner, fired at the end of the 2005 season, his second. The meddling reached such a point that John Fox, Carolina's current head coach, quit his job as Raiders defensive coordinator in the middle of a season.

That take is a load of crap.
Madden: Super Bowl title, HoF
Flores: 2 Super Bowl titles
Shanahan: 2 Super Bowl titles
Shell: long-time NFL coach
White: poor head coach
Bugel: long time nfl coach, poor head coach
Gruden: Super Bowl title
Callahan: Super Bowl appearance, current Nebraska head coach
Turner: long-time NFL coach, poor head coach
Which former Raider coach 'fucked up his career' by working for the Raiders...?

They should have kept Gruden. That is going to haunt Al and the Raiders for a long time. Once they traded him, they still havent done dick w/ what they got in return.
I think Art Shell is a short time solution, if you can call it that. I would have gone after somebody months ago like the redass who coaches Fresno St.

Who's pretending? Ben won a Super Bowl. That's in the books. He won a Super Bowl dispite having only absorbed about 70% of what he needs to know to be a top level NFL QB. Deal with it.jiminphilly wrote:There you go again.![]()
The STEELERS won the Super Bowl despite Ben's interceptions. The 2 big offensive plays didn't even involve Ben throwing the ball. Stop pretending Ben had a good game.
