Has it really been 5 years already since we lost Dale Earnhardt on the final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500? I remember it like it was yesterday. Words could not express then, and still don't now, the sense of sadness, anger, and pain that I felt then, and still feel today, over that tragic incident.
On the eve of another 500, I couldn't let the 5 year anniversary of the death of the legendary #3 to go by unremaked upon. I searched high and low for just the right pics to include for my own little personal tribute, but couldn't really find just what I was looking for until I happened across the slideshow presented below. Included in the slideshow is one of my favorite memories... when Dale won his first and only Daytona 500 after 20 years of frustration, and all the race teams lining up on pit row to congratulate him afterwards.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
