A legened passes

Post by chowd103 »

Bummer. :cry:

As a kid, he was a familiar voice. {1975 World Series. Bos/Cin.}
Later I learned he was mainly a Sox play by play guy in the booth.

I had not been born yet.

Lived long enough to finally see it through. Now he's up there with his boy, Teddy Ballgame.

Save your: (Here's hoping he brings Teddy's head) posts. I aint readin 'em.

:cry:

I was too young to see him work but he was a very familiar voice from old time broadcasts of various sporting events that I've seen highlights. It's always a sad day when a legendary play-by-play guy passes on...there aren't than many left and still working. Vin Scully is probably one of the last guys from the old guard remaining in the business. We need to treasure their gift to call a game because they don't come around everyday. I still miss hearing Ernie Harwell call Tigers games.

I listened to Gowdy. Great voice, great announcer. He will be missed. They just don't make em like the older guys.

You got that right.

My Dad was a huge Curt Gowdy guy. He used to tell me about how he described a game while my Dad earned his paycheck.

Watching NESN nowadays, I can't get as pumped. Dan Orsillo & Jerry Remy doing Sox games do a pretty good job. They're pretty funny thanks to Remy. Still... I could get pumped watching games with the sound off while classical music blares from the sound system.

I'm a baseball fan. Wired that way, I guess. But wouldn't it be cool to listen nowadays with the same enthusiasm as they had back in the day?

Guys like Gowdy, Mel Allen, Vin Scully....wow.

Remember the old game of the week on NBC on Saturday's. Tony Kubek and Joe Garagiola? Loved listening to them. Scully just signed a 2 yr deal with the Dodgers. He's such a great guy. People in LA are blessed to have two of the best with Vin and Bob Miller doing hockey.
