I don't think he's going anywhere unless the GOP keeps or increases their majorities. No way the GOP is going to risk a floor fight over Cheney's replacement unless they have a mandate.mothster wrote:he's history during the midterms-----try and keep up

I call bullshit. Give it up.

Uhhh, maybe next time you might want to actually link to a site that supports your contention. From your link:Cuda wrote:Try to keep up, tardMister Bushice wrote:This I'd like to read. Continue.mothster wrote:he's history during the midterms-----try and keep up

Much of this is nonsense. Most notably, while the public did not learn fo (sic) the shooting accident for 18 hours, the president and key White House staff knew within three hours.
Further, if the rationale for dumping Cheney is that he is a political liability, then why wait until after the only remaining election that directly impacts this president? The GOP could certainly use a boost to help ensure that it retains a majority in both Houses of Congress. Whatever buzz a new vice president would generate–and even a historic double like Condi Rice would generate only limited buzz–would long have dissipated by November 2008.

Sounds like it's the libby thing that will do him in, if anything does.
If libby doesn't string him up, he could stay as long as he becomes invisible.

The only reason I can see for Cheney resigning after the midterm elections is if W wants to give someone a leg up in the race for the White House in '08. Of course, that's not at all a far-fetched scenario, but even so, if I'm a betting man I'm still betting against this happening.

I made no comment either way as to the validity of the story.

You can find just as many opinions that go in the other direction.
And I agree with Terry. The Repubs need to set someone up for 08. Having Cheney resign for "Health Reasons" opens that door up.
Especially if the republicans take a beating in the elections.

If the GOP takes a beating in the 06 elections, how are they going to get someone through a Democratic Congress? Now if they hold their majority, that's a different story. But I cannot see anything other than a caretaker candidate (like a Nelson Rockefeller) getting through the confirmation process. Not after the way BushCorp has trampled over the House and Senate Dems the last few years.Mister Bushice wrote:You can find just as many opinions that go in the other direction.

Good point, Bri. If the GOP loses the majority in Congress, it'd be very difficult to get someone they really want through Congress.BSmack wrote:If the GOP takes a beating in the 06 elections, how are they going to get someone through a Democratic Congress? If the Republicans retain the majority, it'll probably depend on how much loyalty they think they have within their party. The '08 primary figures to be particularly bruising on the Republican side. The Bush cabal will want one of their own -- not McCain or Giuliani -- to be the nominee.
I still think that when all is said and done, Jeb will be the Republican nominee in '08. I could change my mind between now and then, but as of right now I haven't seen anything that would cause me to change my mind.

Nah, Jeb leaves them open to the "dynasty" tag. Furthermore, all of his brother's negative baggage will transfer to him. If Jeb wants to run it will have to be in 2012/2016. To steal a line from the Godfather, our true enemy has yet to reveal himself.Terry in Crapchester wrote:Good point, Bri. There was a time when he was touted as the brains of the administration. He isn't stupid, but he's old, and he's probably not making great decisions anymore partly because of that. Certainly the pressure must be wearing him down to the point where his patience breaks down to just sticking arrogantly by a story is better than anything else.
Unfortunately they can't ever come across as sincere, so the vultures descend.
Hopefully we as a people can find a way next time around to elect leaders who represent us more than they represent themselves.

True enough. But two Bushes in a row is more than your average swing voter could stand.Terry in Crapchester wrote:Which is precisely what they are.BSmack wrote:Nah, Jeb leaves them open to the "dynasty" tag.
