Or, more conveniently, tell them to fuck off by passing a law. RACK California and New York for doing so.Last time I checked, this was a free country. Don't like a smokey bar? Don't go there. Don't like bartending at that smokey bar? Find another job. Somebody smoking a cig near you outdoors? Ask them to move, put it out or walk your ass somewhere else.
The only pussies in this debate are the nicotine junkies who crawl back to their cancer sticks on a daily basis. We 'get it' though. You have no self control and Big Tobacco knows you're their bitch. Props on getting pwn3d by them on a daily/hourly basis.Too many pussies out there scared to even try that last one.
I have no problem if idiots like you want to slowly kill yourself. I just don't want to be around it or pay for it. Your argument is tired and ignorant. No real surprise there.Try to get back to my topic of the thread. If its so fucking bad for everyone then why not ban it?
If parents want to subject their kids to smoke, that's their problem, not ours. You're going to eventually force all smoker to be confined to their own houses if they want to light up and that, I'm sure, is in the best interest of their young children.
Face it. You're weak and selfish. That's what all smokers are, when you get right down to it. I have no sympathy for them- they have a choice and they choose to be weak.
I do, however, have issue with paying for their fuckups in the form of increased healthcare costs. Moreover, I don't appreciate having to smell their shitty habit around me.
States like California and New York have come a long way in addressing the latter. Don't like it smokers? Fuck you.

So Meds, when this shit snowballs and you're dropping 10 bucks a bag for your wife's pork rinds you're going to be okay with it? Or how about when you have to take her to a weigh in to determine the premium you will pay for your insurance?
There's nothing wrong placing restrictions on smoking. It's wrong to criminalize a lawful activity whilst sin taxing the fuck out of it. Ban the shit or live and let live.

Pathetic? If you're a fat piece of shit that throws down happy meals like a whale eating krill, then I have no sympathy for you either. Obesity is becoming an incredible health problem in this country and, unless you have some genetic predisposition toward it, it's a problem borne from choice. In those cases, fuck you.And unless you're going to include my eating pizza, or red meat or being a fucking 400-lb slob who needs heart surgery every other year ... sorry ... you can't include anyone into your "I don't like paying for other people's bad habbits" pathetic argument.
Two things: (i) Dins never has a point and (ii) Jimmy Medalions is incapable of capitulating to a moron of his calibre."Bad habits?" Are you fucking kidding me? You pretty much just capitulated to Dins' main point on this.
Glad we cleared that up.

You claim smokers require more health care than non-smokers, yet you also claim that smokers are "slowly killing themselves."
Which is it?
I don't know if you've ever noticed this, but old people -- you know, the ones who live to be old because they don't smoke -- require an ungodly amount of medical attention.
If a smoker gets lung cancer and can't pay his bills, it results in a year's worth of extra health care costs. If that guy doesn't smoke, he lives to a ripe old age, and requires years and years and years of extra health care costs.
See how that works?
Sorry if this is the first time anybody has explained this to you tard, but other people smoking (and paying increased taxes as a result) save you money.

I basically gave him links to two studies done that show the increase in healthcare costs is due to:
A) The rising number of elderly people who require more healthcare
B) Obesity being the #1 cause of rising healthcare
C) Higher cost perscriptions
D) New technologies being used that cost more
These are the main reasons for rising healthcare costs. Smoking was not mentioned on either study. However I was ignored because I punched a hole in his argument. Go figure.......

Never mind that doctors all but refuse to treat smokers. Don't belive me? Start up a pack a day habit and quit 5 years later. Dude, you're dealing with a guy who isn't particularly intelligent in Meds. Yet somehow, even though he's about 10 ants short of a picnic, and looks like he was drug behind his baby carraige rather than carted around in it, his parents still instilled a sense of entitlement to him. When people like that get older, they begin to realize what a coddled loser they've been their whole life, and reality sets in for them. Upon this realization, they tend to take on some very strange personality traits to justify their existance. Often, this takes the form of jumping on to some sort of moral high-horse.
Like in this instance.
It doesn't matter to him that everything he's been told about other people's smoking æffects on him (a tearfully funny notion to begin with) is complete bullshit. He WILL NOT allow anybody to take his one claim of personal superiority away. His entire belief system would come crashing down around him if the reason he has to think everyone else should be just like him was taken away.
So Neely, give the guy a break and cut him some slack. His life depends on it.

Neely's links prove that we need legislate some new taxes to counter the costs created by the elderly and fat fucks.
1. A fat fuck tax (sin tax junk food....we'll pay off the national debt within 8 months)
2. Elderly tax (dunno....maybe confiscate all their vehicles and sell them at auction to keep them off the road? and use proceeds to counter their healthcare costs)

Of course, every person in the country with a working brain understands this, which is obviously why Meds is struggling with it.Neely8 wrote:A) The rising number of elderly people who require more healthcare
Unless he'd care to somehow explain this contradiction with what he claims is true.
Following Meds' logic --
A lot of people were quitting smoking in the 70's and 80's.
The number of new smokers went down over the years.
According to Meds et. al., these people will live longer.
And WHAT'S the #1 reason for the rapidly increasing cost of health care?
So, just following Meds' logic(which he struggles badly with)...
NOT smoking is causing the greatest increase in health care costs in this country.
Sorry if that's not what the anti-smoking Crusaders want you to believe, and sorry of this ruins the platform of a politician who was playing to the suckers (sup Liberal Meds), but it's a lot closer to the truth than the crap the liberals are spewing.

The Costs of Smoking
The direct and indirect economic costs associated with tobacco use are significant. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), the direct and indirect costs of smoking are estimated at $138 billion per year.(136) As with other chronic conditions, employers are significantly affected by the indirect costs of the health problems that result from tobacco use. An extensive review of the literature published in 2001 found solid evidence that 6 to 14 percent of personal health care expenditures could be attributed to smoking, and that smokers had greater medical costs over the course of their lifetimes. The review also found a large number of studies that demonstrated that smokers are more costly to their employers than those employees who do not smoke.(137) The economic costs of smoking are estimated to be about $3,391 per smoker per year. Each pack of cigarettes sold in the United States costs the nation an estimated $7.18 in medical care costs and lost productivity.(138) Roughly 14 percent of all Medicaid expenditures are for smoking related illnesses,(139) and more than $20 billion of Medicare expenditures each year are related to smoking.(140)

Kids with birth defects don't choose to be fucked up, much in the same way that you probably don't choose to be an idiot.
Smokers choose to fuck themselves up, thus fucking up healthcare costs, thus penalizing non-smokers with their weak dependency.

After the reading the links on who's REALLY driving up the cost of healthcare. I think we need to shift our focus to the REAL problem.....obesity.
We need to sin tax junk food. We need treatment programs for people with no will power.
Which begs an interesting question.....If this country is going to villify smoking to the point of absurdity, where in hell are the treatment programs?
Why don't we take some of the tax revenue we've bilked out of people with an addiction to a lawful product and offer them treatment if the shit is so bad for them? Or are we content to keep raking it in and create horseshit laws to fuck with them some more?
Let's put our money where our mouth is and offer treatment with the money smoker's pay.
