Bill Self on the hot seat??

Post by Cicero »

I know he won the Big 12 Title this year but back-to-back 1st Round exits wont sit well w/ the Jayhawk faithful.

Bill Self isn't on the hot seat. KU was a young team that showed dramatic improvement as the year went on. This team wasn't projected to finish in the top four in the conference. He's fine. Some jackasses will call for his head, but they are idiots. This team had no Junior and Senior class. Self had a good year this year and nobody had more concerns about him than I did at the start of the year.

Now if they lose in the first round next year....all bets are off!

This team is geared towards next year and the year after. I think this squad will win a NC in the next two years.

Yep. That's why they're all idiots. I was sitting at Al's here in Norman Thursday afternoon, watching the game and having a few beers, and, across the bar from me, some guy starts yelling about, no shit, "we should just fire Calvin."

I asked the bartender for my tab to avoid throwing my bottle at his face, and went over to O'Connell's. Once there, I sit at the bar, and the two guys next to me, both younger, start in on him as well. I didn't want to leave again, so I just started hitting them back.

"He can't coach offense."

-- He's not the one missing shots and hogging the ball. That's Terrell Everett, and he can't pull him 'cause nobody else on this team can dribble with pressure being applied.

"His players never get better."

-- Really? 'cause I guess a guy that didn't speak English as a freshman and is STILL in the NBA now, based on the hard work that Kelvin TAUGHT him was NBA-ready when he got to Norman... Si or no?

"He chokes in the tournament."

-- A halfway valid one, although most of his first-round losses have been to teams that were "that team." The Cinderella, etc... or to just plain better teams... like Thursday.

"He's not a good coach."

-- Sweet 16. Elite Eight. Final Four. Coaches for USA Basketball as well... and has a medal to prove it. Yeah, no good at all... dipshits.

----------

Having said all that, I DO feel like he's on the "hot seat." He needs to do some damage next year, young team or not.

It's a young team...get off his back. He recruited these kids and if they don't produce when they're upperclassmen, than Self deserves some heat. I think the worst thing that could happen to him was finishing like they did and beating Texas in the Big XII tournament. Expectations are ramped up because they overachieved and the faithful are now disappointed that they went out early when they probably weren't quite ready to contend. Next year should be a big year for them...it's gotta be tough for Self to follow Williams eventhough he never won a title in Lawrence.

Personally, I think Self is a good coach. I wasnt calling for his head b/c he does have a very young team, I was just asking b/c the Jayhawks are used to a little more success thanks to Roy.

What's not funny is that so could've Mizzou. Nope, not funny at all. :x

As for Jay squawk fan squawking about being eliminated in the 1st round two years in a row, Tigger fan wishes we had that problem. But yeah, It'll be fun to listen to the sports talk radio shows here on Monday and listen to all the pulling of hair and gnashing of teeth that is bound to occur.

I just wish it had happened on Thursday instead of Friday so that they wouldn't have had the whole weekend to recover and assuage their shock, grief, outrage, and chafed camel toes.

And what's really nice is that Wichita State is still alive and in the Sweet 16. That's got to be driving jaysquawk fan absolutely nuts...knowing that they're only the 2nd best team in Kansas....

Now that's funny.
