ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A small Easter display was removed from the City Hall lobby on Wednesday out of concern that it would offend non-Christians.
The display - a cloth Easter bunny, pastel-colored eggs and a sign with the words "Happy Easter'' - was put up by a City Council secretary. They were not purchased with city money.

Tyrone Terrill, the city's human rights director, asked that the decorations be removed. Terrill said no citizen had complained to him.

Council Member Dave Thune called it a shame.

"This has just gone too far,'' he said. "We can't celebrate spring with bunnies and fake grass?''

The council president, Kathy Lantry, said the removal wasn't about political correctness.

"As government, we have a different responsibility about advancing the cause of religion, which we are not going to do,'' she said.

It's not the first time a holiday symbol has been removed from City Hall. In 2001, red poinsettias :meds: were briefly banned from a holiday display because they were associated with Christmas.

That is just stupid, "Offensive to non-christians". The whole idea that Easter is marketed with a fucking bunny, colored eggs, and candy is what should be offensive to Christians.

What the fuck does the Easter Bunny have to do with Christianity?

And no, there is no "movement" against Christianity. This is nothing more than a local issue that is now going to be used by the O'Riely's of the world to hype their cause.

..that could probably best be answered by the liberal council president Kathy Lantry. I think Adad hit the nail on the head.

The acid test would be if the same council allowed a display promoting a different holiday...say Rhamasucidebomberuptheassadahn stand while tearing down Christian holiday displays. If all they are doing is rejecting religious displays of any kind, then there is no bias against Christianity.

Furthermore, even if you should then find that Christians are being discriminated against in St. Paul, MN, it is still a stretch to then say this is indicative of a nationwide campaign against Christians.
..and no, the New York Times is not bias in their reporting!
WTF are you talking about? You're quoting an AP article. What the hell does the NYT have to do with it?

I understand you believe this, but the evidence is overwhelming that the ACLU, atheist, and liberal whacks like Kathy Lantry are totally intolerant to Christianity, while Muslim's, hari whatevers, Mormons and other cults in this country go largely unscathed.

Judge Rules Kids to Become Muslim in Public School
Jen Shroder

At Excelsior Middle School in Byron County, a handout called "Islam: A Simulation" was used to help children "become Muslim." This handout can be seen at http://www.blessedcause.org/Indoctrinat ... hocker.htm
The handout states:

"From the beginning, you and your classmates will become Muslims."

Children choose Muslim names, "play Jihad," memorize the Quran, pray to Allah and fast for Ramadan. Islam is transformed to a fanciful fun religion and an unrealistic view of Islam is planted in their minds, even as Christians and Jews are killed at every border of predominantly Muslim nations.

U.S. District Judge Phyllis Hamilton ruled these class activities are acceptable, opening doors for all schools to incorporate such practices.

This is not a choice for parents. Bill Clinton's "Religious Expression in Public School" state:

"Students generally do not have a Federal right to be excused from lessons that may be inconsistent with their religious beliefs or practices."

Pay attention. There went religious freedom.

A brave few parents have been objecting to the Christian persecution and Muslim indoctrination happening in public school today. Darla Dowell bravely objected to the censorship of Christmas in public school while Hannukah and Islam's Crescent Moon are allowed. She stood alone.

Valerie Moore objected to a large banner in front of her school proclaiming, "There is one God, Allah, and Mohammed is his prophet." Valerie, too, stood alone.

Elizabeth Lemmings objected to children pretending they are Muslims, taking Muslim names, wearing Muslim clothes, memorizing the Quran and playing Jihad. A teacher and alone, the social pressure was intense to the point that Jonas and Tiffany Eklund actually picked up the baton and filed the lawsuit against Byron Union School District on behalf of their children. Last week the case was dismissed.

It takes courage to stand up for what is right, to fight for religious freedom. How disappointing that a federal judge completely disregarded the double standard and dismissed the case, leaving children mandated to memorize the Quran, learn Muslim beliefs as fact and embrace Islam while Christmas is outlawed.

Will we now rally together, pick up the AMERICAN flag and fight for our freedom? Or will we find the remote, flip the channel and remind our children to go study their Quran. Perhaps we can last another ten years before we notice the CONTENTS of the Quran...and what the judges rule...how far the sun will set before we notice the last vestige of our freedom is gone.

Mike,

Still having trouble distinguishing between "Islam: A Simulation" and the reality of a President to claims he is guided by Christ?

Compelling schools to "play muslim", while at the same time castigating other relgious sects is self destructive.

While I'd hesitate to say it is deliberately so, it still results in divisiveness.

You either do or you do not. If you're going to be a hard ass about religion, it needs to be all religions.

Clearly, this judge is touchy feely about Islam.

Mike,

I'm not going to run around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to prove a negative. I'll leave that kind of shit to you. You stated that there is a "movement of bias towards Christianity". Inherent in that statement is the concept that an organized movement is actively working towards marginalizing or eliminating Christianity from American life. So, if you expect me to believe what you say, show me some proof of this organized movement, not stories about a few atheists with a bug up their ass.

Simply put Mike, Christianity is the single most dominant religious force in America. There isn't a close second. Hell, there isn't a close 20th. If you took the clout of all the other religions in America and stacked it up next to that of the many Christian churches, it would look like TVO's case record next to Johnny Cochran's.

What's the problem with a President claiming to be 'guided' by Christ...?

Is it not true that a President is elected by the PEOPLE.....?

Are the PEOPLE not aware of his faith...?

Is a president allowed to make decisions based on whatever sensibilities he may have, so long as they are not 'faith' based in any way....?

Was President Carter a Christian, and did he not claim to be guided by his faith....?

Oh, and btw, Senator Clinton speaking yesterday on a House bill passed in December said, It is certainly not in keeping with my understanding of the Scripture because this bill would literally criminalize the Good Samaritan and probably even Jesus himself.

How disappointing that a federal judge completely disregarded the double standard and dismissed the case, leaving children mandated to memorize the Quran, learn Muslim beliefs as fact and embrace Islam while Christmas is outlawed......
If you re read my post you'll see I linked a reference to Islam from a Bsmack post, not from the killer rabbit post.

Probably should have linked your article post.
...my bad, and hear I thought I had a preety slick retort

Nice try knocking down your strawman. You learn that from Chimpy?

Let me know when you're ready to speak to the issues being discussed here.

I spoke exactly to a point that you brought to the topic.

Not surprised you'd seek shelter, after being hit by a 2x4.

You did nothing of the kind. You presumed that a "President guided by Christ" was a pejorative term and then proceeded to completely ignore the salient point. Which was, that Christianity is practiced and endorsed by the President of the United States. Hardly a sign of a movement to marginalize the faith would you not say?

Seriously, why must you play the victim card when it is your faith that is the single most dominant force in American political life and has been since the Founding Fathers were raping slaves?

Watch out Pop. You're about to be blindsided by his "foolish consistency" dodge.

True. but You sidestepped his question. A more direct answer would have been that there's no problem with someone being guided by his faith until he presumes to impose aspects of that faith on others.

But you do have a point. The Xtians are unnerved only because they don't have as strong of a foothold in American politics as they used to, but they are still a driving force.

However the way you worded your initial post certainly allowed for presumption in more than one direction.

It was a bullshit question that was designed to spin attention away from he and Mike's constant victim playing. I have never once EVER said that a Christian in the White House was a bad thing, so why infer it now?

Unless you want to deflect attention away from your own hanging petard.

Popfart has questions,

"What's the problem with a President claiming to be 'guided' by Christ...?"

Well, popper, it's like this. A U.S. president has a tremendous responsibility to deal with complex problems--which require the utmost in rationality and clear logic. In short, this requirement is directly at odds with being "guided" by a thoroughly irrational supernaturalist Hebrew messiah cult figure from Tiberian Rome.

"Is it not true that a President is elected by the PEOPLE.....?"

Uh, yes, the president is SUPPOSED to be duly elected--but the Chimp 'n Cheney were NOT duly elected. Rather, they snuck in the side door by way of a grossly illegal machination of the Supreme Court--Scalia ruling that Florida could not conduct a recount, etc., as well as a variety of other glaring improprieties.

"Are the PEOPLE not aware of his faith...?"

Who knows how demented the Chimp really is in terms of his belief in the Hebrew messiah cult? Like Reagan, another demented moron, the Chimp apparently reads tracts of literalist apocalyptic preachers, etc., and looks forward to the Return, etc.

"Is a president allowed to make decisions based on whatever sensibilities he may have, so long as they are not 'faith' based in any way....?"

Uh, yes, popper, the president is expected to make decisions based on expert advice and analysis of a given situation, and NOT on any religious faith, astrology, etc.

"Was President Carter a Christian, and did he not claim to be guided by his faith....?"

He was and did--and made a staggering array of dreadful decisions along the way.

Just remember, popper, that human progress in the last , oh, five hundred years or so has been PRECISELY indicated by the degree to which the Christer cult rules, laws, restrictions, and mores have been REJECTED. Think about it.

He Is?
Will there be an example of said guidance soon??
Or is it just another fruitless poli_claim???

Seems to me; your Bu$h Nazi Spawns 'kill your enemy' tude sets Christianity back to Before Christ.
Am I wrong...God, I hope so.
