McDonald's All-American game

Post by Shoalzie »

Didn't stay up to watch it last night...any impressions from anyone who saw it?

I know this game doesn't say a lot about these guys other than how well they can dunk and show off for the cameras. I saw that Gerald Henderson scored 16 points for the East...a future Blue Devil. Didn't see how Jon Scheyer did for the West. Both were big time scorers in high school. Duke will definitely need these two to step right in addition to McRoberts to continue to develop and DeMarcus Nelson needs step up as well. Coach K didn't play all of his freshman...Boateng and Pocius got very little action. The Devils will be very raw next year and I don't expect them to be much of a factor in the national picture...maybe a top 15 or 20 team at best.

No interest here. The only A&M player was on the girls team and I don't watch gorls bball.

Hopefully, next year, we'll get some A&M guys in the game.

No joke. I thought LeBron was a manchild until I saw a picture of Oden. Puberty is a helluva thing.

Greg Oden looks like he's 40. Before he sprained his wrist he was absolutely dominant in the paint.

Scottie Reynolds only shot the ball 3 times (1-3, 3pts) but was running the team well as a point and collected I think 5 assists in very limited action.
Kelvin didn't intend on playing him at the Point and scottie doesn't want to play the oint in college, which is one of the reasons he chose OU. Said he was willing to do it in prep school because they needed him and there were no real PGs on his team last night so he and another 2 had play the point for the most part and he understood that, which was big of him and I think that it speaks a great deal of his willingness to be part of a team effort; something we have lacked here recently outside of Godbold and Bookout.

Question now becomes does he fulfil his commitment or petition a release.

I watched the game cause I wanted to take a look at Scheyer and Henderson, as well as Lance Thomas.

The game was a little better to watch than past years. There wasnt as many oops and bad passes. It seems as if the kids were more relaxed knowing that they werent playing in front of 100 scouts and NBA GM's.

Oden was a beast inside before hurting is wrist. He had like 4 blocks in the first 5 minutes.

Collins, PG, who is going to Kansas is going to be a freaking badass. He is fast and explosive to the hole.

Durant who is going to Texas played great and he is long. He is like 6'10 and has the wing span of a 7 footer. he had 25 points and was the game Co-MVP, but he only weighs like 210 pounds. He needs to put on some weight if he is going to play down low.

He can't go pro until he's out of high school a year.
Ah....I forgot. Thanks.

He'll be gone after next year then. No way he risks injury. OSU fan will be pissed after a year. They will have a great season then *pop*!

Ummm, being that you didnt know that he had to go to school for at least a year, makes me believe that you dont know jack shit about him as a player. He is a good kid. I think he will stay for more than just one year, and tOSU is getting 4 other Top50 players, including 2 McDonalds AA's, that will def improve the program. They will be more than just a one trick pony.

You've got that backwards. Scottie played the 2 in high school becuase there was another legit D-1 point prospect at his high school (signed with G'town, I think) who couldn't shoot as well and they wanted both on the floor at the same time.

Every conversation I've read with Reynolds indicates he wants to play the point in college and I've read quotes from Kelvin indicating that the plan was to play him at point.

If OU makes a credible hire, then Reynolds is coming to OU.
Scottie played the point at Herndon this year BtH. Last year he was tyhe two guard but they moved him to point because the kid you mentioned is already in college. It was my understanding that he was going to play the 2 guard under Kelvin and a little point while we worked on AJ. I dunno maybe I do have it backwards but I do know he definatly played the point this last year at Herndon. I have a good friend who lives out there and has watched him play a number of times this season.

The key to Scottie isn't the coach it is Damion James. They want to play together. The key is to keep Damion. I can't remember if it is James or Clark that are having academic problems though.

I haven't heard anything about Mayfield so I wonder how solid his commitment is now?

I know that losinbg Sampson somewhat helps our chances with Damion's younger brother Xavier as he it is rumored that while Damion likes him Xavier doesn't care for him much but in the end I fear he will be yet another OKC stud who ends up at Kansas or Duke :(.

Naw.....I just forgot that they changed the collective bargaining agreement. It's called an honest mistake. Maybe you would like to crucify me for it. Oh well.

Dude is seven foot and 240. Why stay and risk injury when he could go top ten EASILY after next year?

If you know so much explain why he would STAY. What does GOOD KID have to do with anything. SOunds like you are talking out yer ass.

Mayfield's problem would be he went to one of those fake high schools/basketball diploma mills recently profiled in the NY Times--though he's not in any way the only one. but if he makes the test score, then what difference does it make?

i work in higher education, i can tell you how fraudulent it is.

Oden is more like 265, and while he would undobtedly be the #1 player in the draft in 07, from what I have read and heard, he is a kid that wanted to go to college. Some say he would have gone to tOSU even if the rule had not been implemented. I have seen interviews w/ the kid and he wants to experience some of the college life and doesnt seem to be a glory hog. His demeanor is a lot like Duncan's was.

Trixie, Cicero hit the nail right on the head. Oden said he was going to college all along (like since his junior year when everyone was telling him he was going to be the #1 draft pick).

He has plainy said the rule change did not affect his plans. Additionally, he is in no hurry to jump to the NBA and make some $$$. His momma isn't living in some trailor behind a meat-packing plant and he seems genuinely interested in an education. More TDuncan than SOneal (course SOneal went back and got his degree...so props).

Oden is a more grounded recruit than most.

Actually, Oden will be at Ohio St, one and done......

Would you take a phenom for 1 year or take a lesser guy for 4?

OSU fan would love to believe that. Yeah he's there for four years. Are you stupid? Just like Kwame........dude is gone for the bucks. Grounded means that he's smart and will NOT RISK SERIOUS INJURY!!!!!!

Take the jack when you are that good and have that size. No reason to stay in college anymore. You can quote him all you want but these guys NEVER change their minds. Fools.

Hey genius, as I recall you didn't even know where this kid was playing college ball at...so please don't lecture me on his intentions. You are obviously not in the loop. And no, we don't expect him to stay four years, that would be absured. But I do expect to see him in scarlet and gray for two years.

The $$'s will always be there for him regardless of whether he stays at OSU one, two, three or four years. Some people stay because college is a great freakin' time. As long as you aren't losing out, why not enjoy the ride a bit.

Share you the logic? Oh I don't know, let me just call Greggy real quick and ask him. No fucko, I don't know why he made that decision, I just know that is what he has stated time and again. Just do a little more research before you start forecasting this kids future, OK?

Yes trixie, people change their mind....are you that fucking boring that you have to repeat the same tired comments over and over?

Why don't you come to the table with at least a little knowledge on the topic before you start spewing gibberish all over the place. Oden is a different player in that he isn't your average HS recruit looking to have his moment in the spotlight. Case in point:

During the All-Star game, they interviewed him after it appeared he re-injured his wrist. When asked what he thought of the game and if he would be back he replied with something to the effect that his teammates were scoring well enough that he was content to play defense and let them shine and he hoped he would get back into the game.

So Oden, in an "All Star Game" feels like his team is scoring well enough and is conent to play defense....yeah, that sounds like your run of the mill player who is only in it for the money.

Dude knows he's in it for a year. Doesn't matter how well you do at some all-star game now, does it? Next year will matter for monetary purposes.

You aren't looking at it from outside the box. Your OSU glasses don't let you see the big picture. Oh well. I went through it at UF. Billy D now recruits different players. Getting a bunch of superstars for a year or two sucks. Especially when these guys know they are auditioning for the NBA every time up the court. I don't know what I am talking about? I have lived it for 5 years.

I would rather have hard-working role players for 4 years then some playground ball-hog(not saying your guy is) for 1-2 years.

UF's success is a result of actually getting TEAM oriented players. All five of UF's starters average double figs(all within 4 points of each other). That's TEAM ball.

I hope Oden does well, but with that size and a lack of true NBA centers, to think he won't leave after next year, is complete homerism.

And stop using some quote after/during an all-star game as PROOF that he's not thinking of leaving. My statement above concerning the lack of true NBA centers is enough for him to bolt after ONE year.

Hell, I'll wager right now.

Welcome to the hoops forum, T. Say, Florida wouldn't by chance be in the Final Four would they?

I'll take that bet about Oden being one and done.

Oden is an anomaly. He is as passionate about education as he is about basketball. By all accounts, he is in no hurry to go pro and plans on staying at OSU for at least 2 years, maybe 4.

Why 2 and not 1? Why 3 and not 2?

Well, again, he is excited about just being in college. He has a chance to play at a very high level with his two best friends in the world (Conley & Cook). He can get a calculus/accounting/econ degree from OSU and maybe win a couple titles with his buds in the process. At the end of his experience, he'll have millions and millions of dollars thrown at him from every direction and he'll be a king in Columbus for the rest of his life.

Sounds good to me.

Yeah, I'm a little superstitious so I am not going to go beyond the proverbial....."the Gators will beat GMU". They have a great chance at it all so I will leave it at that. I have my UF visor on and my t-shirt ready for six o'clock. Meanwhile I am going to go lay out by the pool and enjoy the 83 degree clear blue sky weather.

I am sorry but to risk millions and millions just to be excited is stupid. i think you'll find that when the money is on the table he'll bolt. He's no different from everyone else but keep telling your pathetic selves that over and over. He's an anomaly. He loves C-bus. He would never leave our great school for millions of dollars. STFU!!!!

Listen to yourselves.....fucking hysterical.

Just to see OSU fan line up after OSU fan to proclaim that YOUR recruit is different from every other recruit just shows the arrogance. It'll be that much better when he leaves. The guy will be the number one pick(top five with that size) but NO....."I'm staying because I love c-bus!!!!"

STFU!!!!!!!

"I'm staying because I love c-bus"??????

Who exactly are you quoting with those quotation marks? Nobody ever said that. We're just saying that the kid himself is saying there's a good chance he'll stay more than 1 year. In addition to himSELF, everyone close to him is saying there's a good chance he stays more than 1 year. It's very clear that he likes the idea of being in college and he's passionate about education.

Did you even read the article I linked? Are you really that cynical about today's youth that there's just simply NO WAY that a young man could value college and education and personal development?

Look, I realize you've only been following basketball for about a week now, but it wouldn't be the first time a top-ten kid has stayed in school. In fact, most mock drafts I've seen project that at least 7 or 8 out of the first 12 picks in the '06 NBA draft will be guys who were either juniors or seniors in college and/or at least 21 years old (including some guys overseas).

Am I saying that projected top-five/top-ten picks deciding to stay in school is the new wave? Absolutely not. Certainly, there are a lot of kids these days who will bolt as quickly as possible.

I'm just saying that Oden -- regardless of the fact that he happens to be coming to OSU -- seems to be different.

Obviously, things can change. But right-the-fuck now -- I'm willing to throw down a little wager if you are. Let's put the line at 1.5 years. I'll take the over. Just let me know.

Go George Mason!

First things first... Take some of your own advice. Just STFU. You're a dumbass and a hater of epic proportions. All that your trolling does is get you kicked in the teeth repeatedly on two boards, where I'm sure you've got an early and commanding lead in the board bitch competition.

Second... Who gives a fuck whether Oden stays 1, 2, or 20 years? All anyone in this thread has pointed out is what he's been quoted. If he doesn't stay, no big deal. If you've bothered to comprehend before typing, you would have stopped showing your ass long ago.

And lastly... You might want to know at least something about the subject of a thread before you open your piehole. You've developed a habit of it in my short time on this board, reading your pathetic attempts at posting. Same advice I gave to Babs I give to you, READ MORE AND POST LESS.

Sure Trixie, run your mouth all you want. Even when you started an intelligent post, you ruined it with a pathetic rant at the end. But I guess you know because the players you have seen for the last five years are the only types of players there are, huh? That is, every HS player going to college fits into one of your pre-defined molds, huh.

So sure, what is the bet? Since this is a long term thing, it should be a significant bet I think. How about something like a 3 month ban on posting in the CBB forum. So when Oden stays for his second year of college, you will have to avoid the board from Jan - Mar.

How many possible number one picks stay?

Duncan comes to mind.

The kid may WANT to stay but it would be hard to justify staying and risking injury and losing millions. If he decides to forgo millions for some "college experience" then I think he's an idiot.

I think you guys should be extremly open to the fact that there's a higher chance he'll leave then stay. Take it as you will, but to think he's sticking around is setting yourself up for a huge disappointment.

You're just playing right into Trixie's hooves here. If you want her to feel the burn, extend the ban to all CFB threads related to Notre Dame & USC.

Just caught some of the Nike Hoops Summit...Wayne Ellington (committed to UNC) and Henderson put on a show. Crazy that both guys went to the same high school but are going to be bitter rivals in college with Henderson going to Duke.
