I'd like to know how they got those numbers. If they are just using Body Mass Index (BMI), that is a very poor methodology. BMI completely ignores muscular development to the point where an athlete like Emmit Smith is considered by a BMI chart to be "obese".

That's not to say that as a country we are not too heavy. I just have a serious problem with the idea that more than 2/3 of this country are "overwieght/obese".

I had the misfortune to "have" to go to the DMV today. I get points because I speak Spanish. I am standing in the express line and there's this fat son of a bitch in front of me. I mean dude went close to 5 bills at least.

I am about 20 lbs overweight. My insurance agent says its only a matter of time before the insurance companies use BMI to adjust / deny / change coverages. Then I am walking out of the bank, and I hold the door open for this fat ass caboose bitch carrying a fucking cardboard tray of Mickey D's posion. Her fucking ass was at least 2 axe handles wide, and she did not need that shit.

I still can outrun the fastest neighbors who chase me if they think my unleashed dogs shit in their yard, though. While you are quite correct that the way obesity is calculated is total horseshit.... especially for dudes like me (6'2" 225 and quite lean, thank you), you have to admit... the amount of fat people in this country goes up every year. People spend more time in front of their PC, PS2, etc... than they do exercising. As a country, we're blowing up faster than you can say Old Country Buffet.

One of my sons girlfriends started packing on some pounds after high school. She just graduated college, and is at least 40 lbs heavier that she was 3 1/2 years ago.

I'm 6-1 and a scoach under 200 lbs right now...mostly winter weight I put on. I'll burn that off as I get to be outside and work out in the yard and go golfing. My biggest problem is having an office job and sitting 8 or 9 hours behind a computer...that'll lead to me putting on a extra few pounds.

I won't argue that obesity is a problem for far too many. I just would like to see the science used to measure the impact of the problem be more reflective of reality. Then again, I don't go to concerts very often, I never shop at WalMart and I attend very few ball games. But there was this dude at the Steelers-Bills game a few years ago wearing a 5x Eric Moulds jersey who freaked me out just a little...

I'm a scoach over 6-1, and I weigh about 170 right now(had some health problems). I'm usually between 180-185, depending on winter or summer. Health issues or not, I've always had a case of the "skinnies." Just much worse now.

According to that calculator, I'd have to drop quite a bit more before I could approach "underweight." I'm about a 22BMI...right in the middle of the "normal" range.

What a ridiculous scale. Just about everyone who knows me would probably tell you in no uncertain terms that I'm underweight, yet not accoring to the BMI. I have no problems getting into pants with a 30" waist these days, but if I put on a couple more pounds, I'm overweight...yeah, right.

I recently purchased a chinup bar and hung it in the doorway to the kitchen. Then I bought a set of rings from the kid's department at IKEA. I hooked up the rings to the bar and now, between handfulls of Nestle's Crunch Chocolate Eggs, I do pushups using the rings. I got the idea from Chuck Liddell on a Xyience commercial.
