2006 Outlook
Ok since Killian has been asking T Rex to explain why FLA will improve but no one else will...I'll start this fucking conversation:
My take on Ohio State...
I think offensively they are going to be deadly (no duh)...first year since 2003 without a QB situation and a schedule that sets up well...they travel to Texas the second game but without Football Jesus...I think OSU has a leg up on this one...
If they get through the non-con undefeated...Nothern Illinois, @Texas, Cincinnatti, and BGSU, then the Big 10 sets up well for them with PSU and Michigan at home...
offensively I think Troy Smith and company will improve and be better apt to carry this team while the defense comes along...toward the end of last year the offense started to perform more consistently and made big clutch plays...see Michigan and ND games...I think TG2 will get better as a WR and Gonzalez is nails. The OL is stout and of course with Smith at the controls the dual threat is obviously there. Pittman and both Wells will give OSU a potent running attack...I see them having more balance and perhaps Smith might not have to do as much with his legs due to a better running game...They need to come out of the gates strong and make a statement at Texas...
Defensively while raw...they have some experience and depth up front and speed to burn in the secondary...will TG2 play some corner this year? Perhaps...how you replace 9 starters is beyond me but Tressel seems to have the right buttons pushed...although replacing Hawk, Carpenter and company will be tough I feel there is definitely immense talent in the secondary and LB position to be perhaps a faster defense but definitely raw and needing some games under their belts...
Where do I see OSU? I feel as though they have the most "Talented" team in the Big 10 and arguably one of the best coaches in the Big 10 and the nation...with the schedule anything less than a BCS/National Title contention type season will probably bee seen as a downer by most of Buckeye Nation, but many of the kids playing this year will just be sophmores or redshirt freshman and or juniors...so that bodes well for the future...
I see 10-2 or 9-3 in my head...but 11-1 in my heart and another BCS bid...
I think LSU has a ton of talent, and while I know T Rex and Killian are debating FLA vs ND...both teams have a ton of talent and this will be an interesting season...
I also feel Oklahoma could be primed to return to the National Championship race especially if they can get some solid QB play and of course Adrian Peterson is a monster...
it will be interesting to see how USC does and of course I am always in anticipation of the CAL/MSU/IOWA meltdown...
thoughts? discuss!

My take on Texas
On offense Texas is very deep across the board the big thing is the lack of experience at QB.
Receivers is going to be a strength for Texas for the first time in 3 years. Texas returns all but 2 of their top receivers and TE. As of right now the top 5 receivers are Limus Sweed, Billy Pittman, Quan Crosby, Jordan Shipley, and Nate Jones. Add in Romonce Taylor and you have an extremely deep recieving corp.
TE is a position that has great talent but little experience. Neal Tweedie is a guy who acts like a 3rd O tackle but is limited as a reciever. The guy to really watch is JerMichael Finley, he is a monster reciever who reminds me (to a lesser extent) of former Miami TE K Winslow Jr. He is 6'5 240 and has a 40 in Verticle. If he adds a little more meat to his bones he will be special.
The Oline consists of 4 returning starters: OTs Tony Hill Jr, Justin Blalock, C Lyle Sendlein, and G Kasey Studdard. Texas has 3 linemen that will make up the 5th starter and add depth G Cedric Dockery, OT Adam Ultowski, and G Brent Valdez. Once Texas finds a 8th linemen they will be as deep as last season. Right now they are a legit 7 deep.
RB is a position that is really talented but that talent has not proven to be durable. Jamal Charles might be as talented as any back in college football he reminds me of Tony Dorsett with his ability to spin off tackles and break long runs. Selvin Young is the backup and is again 100%. Word out of spring practice is he has lost some weight and looks like his former self (some thought he was better than Cedric Benson). Henry Melton and Romonce Taylor make up the 4 deep both are more situational backs. Henry has learned a new trick in spring practice, running with his pads down. Not a bad idea for a power back.
QB is the one position that keeps all Longhorn fans awake at night. From talking to a number of Ex's that went to the spring game, seeing someone other than Vince leading the offense is a rude awakening to reality. There is no way any one person is going to make Texas forget him. Especially a freshman QB with zero experience. Mark my words what these kids lack in experience they make up for in talent. RS freshmen Colt McCoy is not a overly gifted QB but he is smart, very very smart. Lots of people comment that he reminds them of Major Applewhite in his ability to just make plays. Jevean Snead has all the physical abilities of Chris Simms but runs much better. When recruiting him, Urban Meyer compared him to Alex Smith. I think once he gets the offense down he will take the starting QB job.
On defense Texas will have an incredible starting 11 but early on experienced depth might be a problem. This year there isn't one area that is overwhelmingly strong. Texas is strong in every unit. Texas returns 8 starters they are S Michael Griffin, CB Aaron Ross, CB tarrell Brown, LB Robert Killebrew, LB Rashad Bobino, DE Brian Robison, DE Tim Crowder, DT Frank Okam.
The guy I'm excited to watch is true freshman Sergio Kindle, the reports coming out of spring practice are just amazing. Lots of comparisons to Derek Johnson.
special teams has some questions but Texas should be ok.
Across the board Texas is a better team than last year. Except at one position - Quarterback
There is no mistake Texas will start either a Red-shirt freshmen or a true freshmen for every game next season.
The only redeeming thought is that said QB will have lots and lots of weapons to help take pressure off him and an Oline that will be as deep as last season.
If the QB can just not make the turnover I think Texas can win any of their games, but since that won't happen I will be happy with a 2 loss season.

Nebraska
OB Taylor- Sr. returning QB, runs the west coast well but clearly not destined for the NFL. Considering the talent now on offence, he needs only hold on to the ball.
RB - Glenn, Lucky, Jackson and the top JUCO RB Wilson equals a strong unit that when any two are in you must cover.
FB - Suck, but not nessesary for this offence.
WR - Good for Neb, average for anyone else.
OL - QUESTION MARK. Got much better last year but must improve.
TE - If Herian is back, he is a top 3 TE in the country.
The O finished 96th in the country in Rushing. They MUST be a top 30 rushing team in order to win more then 9 games. I think they will be.
The passing game will be much improved if Herian is back, he will make safties pay for doubling the outside. If he is not back they must rely on the pass out of the backfield. They were average last year, this year they won't be great but should be good.
Defence
DT - Two back ups from last year become starters. If Suh becomes a force the DT's could be as good as last year.
DE - One of the top units in the country with Carriker a possible all american. Moore is solid. Both can really rush the passer.
LB - McKeon is a possible all american MLB. Dillard, Ruud and Octavian are all STUDS.
CB - Bowman was the top JUCO player last year and Grixby was a high school all american. Both have experiance and will play well. At safty we will be breaking in two new starters but we have a top JUCO player coming in to hold the position down.
The D should be a top 20 unit with a very strong pass rush will most players returning from the top sack unit in the country. With strong cover corners and Great DE's, non-moblie QB's will be eaten alive.
With games vs. USC and TEXAS there are two games that will be difficult to win. But all over games on the schedule are winnable as I expect a 9-3 regualar season followed by a loss in the big 12 title game vs. (UT or OU) and a win vs. a good team in the cotten or Holiday to finish with a 10-4 record.
I feel Neb is the front runner for the big 12 north but a long shot to make the BCS. A return to a new years day bowl would be a success with anything short of 9-5 being a MAJOR disapointment.
Possible All Americans.
MLB McKeon
CB Bowman
DE Carriker
TE Herian
Possible All Conferance
WR Nunn
QB Taylor
DE Moore
CB Grixby
