Just because I love beating a dead horse

Post by Killian »

If you guys don't read the blog, "Every Day Should Be Saturday", you should. It's run by a couple of Gator fans/alumni and it's one of the funniest sports blogs I've ever read, and they're very unbiased.

Anyway, here is one of their recent entries:

UF fans want harder OOC schedule

JEREMY FOLEY: GO BIG

Open letter to Jeremy Foley:

Just wanted to let you know that Notre Dame has an open date in 2009. Big, ol’ open date with noooooothin’ at all scheduled. They’re also going on walkabout for a spell, too, scheduling open dates all over the country…including Jacksonville and Orlando. Which are located in Florida. Which is where your university and posh office sit…on piles and piles of money.

You’ve got your 2009 schedule up already, and we know, we know: you don’t want to lose a home game, even if it’s a precious, exciting kitten-kicker like Florida International on November 21st, or–ooh!–the ever-crucial September 12th ritual sodomy of Troy in Gainesville. Yet imagine a matchup with Notre Dame n Florida: new school v. old school, Sun Belt versus Rust belt, Everclear ‘n Tonic versus lukewarm Old Style…and more media coverage than you can wag your willy at, Jeremy.

Just a crazy thought we had about making your case for a national title in a bowl system without leaving room for debate or doubt. Can’t wait to watch that FIU game, though. Hear the band is a- thooompin’.

Yours, Orson.

-------------------------

Now we know this will never happen, because it would require a return date from the Gators, and that would mean they would have to travel out of the South, something they've done only 6 times since the conclusion of WWII.

But it's an interesting idea.

T REX says what?

I agree...I mean tOSU is following this mantra that they are going to schedule at least ONE out of conference heavy weight each year...

I know I have posted this numerous times but here goes...

2005/2006 Texas (home and home)
2008/2009 Southern Cal (home and home)
2010 and 2011 Miami of FLA (home and home)
2012 and 2013 KAL (tentative home and home)
2014 and 2015 Va Tech (home and home)

now I realize those games out in 2012-2015 can change but I applaud Tressel and company for doing this...IF tOSU can give up ONE home game with the largest athletic budget in the country (Vito post calling bullshit in 5..4..3..2..1..)...then FLA can give up a home game...

just my thoughts...I would love to see tOSU play

ND
A&M
OU
and an SEC school or two...non con

yeah and tOSU got gang raped...

that would be a nice series though...

you know when tOSU plays Miami of FLA that will be the first non bowl game OSU will play in FLA...I found that interesting that they never have played on FLA soil outside of a bowl...I was at the Miami of FLA vs tOSU Kickoff classic game in 99...you talk about a sick squad of Miami players...

Won't happen until ND shitcans Kevin White or he decides to opt out for a small confrence commish job.

When that happens, as long as Gene Smith is still at OSU, a series will get done. [crosses fingers]Steve Orsini will make it happen.[/crosses fingers]

Im sorry that you have to play in Miami. Its easily the worst college stadium in both location and appearance. Dont bother buying great seats, you will easily be able to move down to better ones halfway thru the 1st Quarter.

They actually might have 2 open dates that year because we might be opting out of the 2 games we were scheduled to play there. The 2 game deal was done before our new AD came to USF and he is looking to get rid of all the money road games that are left (2 with UF and 1 with Auburn in 2007).

Hey Mucho, I havent looked at your schedule, but is UCF a team you are going to play every year, or just back-to-back series. I think now that O'Leary has restored some control down there, it could develop into a nice rivalry.

I wonder what T REX thinks of this...

Killian I would hope tOSU and ND could play again...granted we have reeled off THREE IN A ROW more recently and I would love to make it FOUR or FIVE :P

in fact you guys could be our non-conference bitch much like Michigan lately is our conference BITCH.

In all seriousness I would love to see this again with ND...I remember in 95 just being on Campus was electric the whole mood was intense and incredible...I am sure the same was in 96 up in South Bend...plus the Fiesta this year had so much attention and build up...

Cicero...I remember that 97 Sugar Bowl...obviously the FSU squad was sick considering they won the National Title the following year...

I wish more schools would step up and play bigger names OOC...I loved the build up to the OSU v Texas game...great game...great game...

not too easy signing SEC schools to OOC home and homes, Allbarn signed with USC when he who we dont speak of was the Trojans coach and expected them to still be bad, the Tigers havent won a road OOC game this century and dont look forward to playing any in the future. Florida wont leave Florida so if youre not another Florida school, you wont get a home and home with them. Georgia hasnt left the south in close to 50 years and the fact that they only play 3 of their 12 games this season on the road, it doesnt look like they plan on changing that any time soon. LSU will play ya but I think Oregon State is still waiting for a return on that home and home. Seems that the only SEC schools willing to travel now are the bottom feeders of the conference, Arkansas, the Mississippi schools and Vandy and SEC homer will never give you credit for beating those schools.

I know there have been discussions about extending the series past this season, but nothing is finalized. I personally see no reason to continue it since there is no "rivalry", nor will one be created.

The original 2 games series was signed when Lee Roy Selmon was our AD. Since Woolard has taken over our Football scheduling has changed in a good way for us. Woolard has signed 1 for 1 deals with BCS teams, 2 for 1 deals in our favor with non BCS teams and the pay day for 1 AA's.

With that being said, I am assuming that any future games with UCF will be of the 2 for 1 variety in our favor. I highly doubt that Woolard will give them the 1 for 1 opportunity of the BCS deals we are signing. There was something in the Tribune a few months back stating that we were in discussions for 1 for 1 deals with Oklahoma and Nebraska.

It's certainly a more feasible option for a fourth Big Ten team to play ND, now that the season has gone to 12 games and the Big Ten is sticking with an 8-game conference schedule.

If we add a fourth Big Ten team, tOSU or Penn State makes the most sense. Penn State, because it's located in the northeast. tOSU, because it is a traditional powerhouse located in an adjacent state whom, for some reason, we've only played five times in history.

And from ND's standpoint, we'll be looking for an eighth permanent opponent on our schedule once Fredo goes bye-bye after 2010.

The problem is logistics. The Big Ten likes to play all of its non-conference games during September. ND likes to get at least one game under its belt before Michigan, and four Big Ten teams on the schedule wouldn't lend ND to much flexibility during the month of September. So unless MSU or Purdue wants to be our opener, there could be a problem.

Funny, but I always looked at that game as the beginning of Cooper's downfall. Moherman threw that TD pass and was gaining some confidence then Coop put in Bellisari for a series, he fumbled a snap, and it was all downhill from there. _sc, you remember that Na'il Diggs blindside shot on Kenny Kelly? One of the best hits I've ever seen.

Cicero, I'd love it if tOSU could find a spot on the slate for FSU in the coming years-- hopefully before Bowden retires. That would be a fantastic home&home.

I'm also waiting to get revenge on Tennecleats after those fuckers pulled that shit in the Citrus Bowl back in '96.

I'm just saying that it's interesting that some of your own fans are now calling out your AD for having a pussy OCC schedule, yet you still see nothing wrong with it. At least some Gator fans are starting to find their balls.

Lance...I also remember Wiley getting caught from behind by Blades I think on a long supposed TD run which would have gave tOSU some momentum...I think they settled for a FG...

yes I remember Diggs' hit...plus I remember one of our LB's had to sit out the game...I think it was Courtland Bullard for something and Tim Cheatwood (i think started in his place)...made a huge play on 1st down then got absolutely fucking pancaked on the very next play to spring a big gain by miami...Miami fans are fucking classless to by the way...

No, see, you're missing the funny. I left the poin, along with various parts of your ass, in the other thread.

Now, there is one of your own, a Gator, making fun of UF's OOC schedule, not making excuses for it.

But then there's you, a fan of a power school, and you're not the least bit embarassed that you've left your geographical area 6 times in the last 60 years. I guess once a decade isn't so bad.

Am I the only one who sees the funny in all of this?

Yes, I think it was Bullard who had to sit. And Wiley busted like a 70-yard run but ran out of speed.

Fitting though, that guys like Mike Doss & Donnie Nickey played their first and last games as collegiates against the Hurrigangstas. We know what happened the second time around... :D

Potentially, you'll have a top 5 SOS. Which is still a result of your confrence, not because you try to schedule tough teams.

Now, the smart/ballsy UF fans are getting tired of it. But you're not. Tells us all we need to know.

Why would we want to call him out? You're the one who can't admit the fact that he's right.

UF schedules pussy OOC games besides FSU....its the truth. There is nothing wrong with that...your conference gives you a hard schedule so you are straight.

I'm really missing the point of why you are trying to deny something like this???? Just move on.... Killian is right, but you have a tough schedule anyway so it really doesn't matter.

Chief,

You are still somewhat new. Let me help.

Admitting anything that would cause others to look down upon one's school/team/etc. is basically not done on these boards.

Saying "I was wrong" is also taboo.

"You're right" is absolutely forbidden.

Now, carry on T BAG. Might I suggest some Anal Ease for the plunger poking out of your ass?

I would also be curious as to who the other 4 or so teams that had harder schedules than FLA last year (according to T Rex)...if I am not mistaken tOSU had a top 10 SOS...while still playing a pretty tough Big 10 schedule but also adding Texas into the mix...i mean I just have a question

if schools like tOSU, Texas, Southern Cal, can schedule big OOC games and go on the road outside of Ohio, Texas, etc...I am just at a loss as to why FLA doesn't? I mean last year Miami and FSU helped your SOS tremendously...they made up for a relatively weaker SEC last year (Tennessee sucked, Vandy was ok early, MSU sucked, Miss sucked, Bama was above average, etc)...so Miami and FSU made up for the lack of SEC toughness (you have to admit the SEC was down a little last year)...

but yet you discount ND's schedule due to most of the teams they played laying an egg...

Just answer me this...WOULD YOU (just asking you T REX) love to see FLA play an OOC game against any of the elite in CF outside of FSU and Miami (didn't you just pick Miami back up?), you could drop Miami and pick up someone else whether on the road or at home? Just answer that question...don't spin or go into details about how many home games you need to have and blah, blah blah...just answer that question...DO/WOULD you want FLA to schedule someone of elite status other than Miami or FSU on the road or at home...?

A&M has been good at scheduling good OOC games. This year we did not.

However, in the past few years, we've had home and homes with Va Tech, Utah, Pitt, Clemson, Wyoming (not good but we traveled), and we have Miami on the future home and home schedule.

Don't remind me. We had that game WON and blew it. Well, I wouldn't say we had it WON, but we had a 14-10 halftime lead and then our offense went to shit in the second half. Brandon Stewart couldn't hit the broad side of the barn after the half.

That was a common theme played out by most of the ND haytas last year. Of course, there's some selective memory involved in that -- both Michigan and Tennessee were ranked in the Preseason Top 5, and both Purdue and Pittsburgh were ranked in the Preseason Top 25. Michigan State got as high as #14 during the season before their season went south in a hurry.

That schedule looked pretty damn tough going into the season (remember, ESPN predicted we'd start the season 0-6 based on our schedule), and it was set up 5 years in advance. You play the team that's lined up on the other side of the ball. Not ND's fault that so many teams on last year's schedule had disappointing seasons, and it hardly could have been expected.

STFU. Chief actually nailed my argument. What does it matter if we have a ridiculous schedule. If we were in the Big Sky I can see the crying from the notre-tard but we are in teh freaking SEC.

You play the team that's lined up on the other side of the ball. Not ND's fault that so many teams on last year's schedule had disappointing seasons, and it hardly could have been expected.
Preseason? You sound like USC fan on Auburn a few years ago. Preseason? Who cares?

This is very tired.

buck: Who doesn't want to see elite match-ups. I, however, am going to trust Jeremy Foley, our AD. I'm sure he knows what he's doing. Thanks.
