Lance Johnstone a Raider....again

Post by The Assassin »

Can a Jeff Hostetler return be far behind??

Johnstone agrees to two-year deal with RaidersBy Len Pasquarelli
ESPN.com

Ten-year veteran defensive end Lance Johnstone, one of the NFL's best situational pass rushers over the course of his career and certainly one of the top players remaining in the unrestricted free-agent market, on Wednesday reached a contract agreement with the Oakland Raiders, ESPN.com has learned.

Johnstone

The deal, for two years, returns Johnstone to the franchise with which he originally began his NFL career, as a second-round choice in the 1996 draft. Financial details were not immediately available.

Johnstone, 32, played five seasons with the Raiders (1996-2000) and then signed with the Minnesota Vikings, for whom he played five years (2001-05). Minnesota had made what was believed to be a one-year offer in an effort to retain Johnstone, and the veteran pass rusher also generated interest from several other clubs as well.

Securing a proven pass-rusher like Johnstone, who posted 7½ sacks in 2005, should provide the Raiders some intriguing possibilities on third down. Oakland already boasts the 2005 league sack champion in right end Derrick Burgess, who had 16 quarterback takedowns last season, and will now be able to bring even more pressure off the edge.

The combination of Burgess and Johnstone attacking the pocket from opposite sides on third down figures to enhance the performance of both veteran ends. After Burgess, the Raiders didn't have any other defenders in 2005 with more than five sacks and no ends with more than two sacks.

In his 10 seasons in the league, Johnstone has registered 10 or more sacks four times, including 10 sacks in 2003 and 11 in 2004. The former Temple standout has posted five or more sacks in seven seasons. There has been no discernable dropoff in Johnstone's level of play or, more important, in his quickness, which is his forte.

Johnstone has appeared in 155 games, missing just five contests during his NFL tenure, and he has 380 tackles, 21 forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and two interceptions.

Do hope he can retain his quickness. I'm on the fence with this one, he had some solid years as a Raider but if I do recall Gruden sent this guy packing and was one of the first guys he booted. Lets see if Arthur can coax another 10 sack season out of him.

Excellent signing.

Although it may pain my fellow Raider bretheren, I ask you to remember last season and what the problem defensively was in just about every game........3rd fucking down.

This addresses that need immediately and gives us a great set of bookend rushers to cause havoc with that we havent had on our team in many years.

RACK it.

He's durable, experienced, and he's got game.

For what he does on the field, it's hard not to like this pick-up.

Here's hoping that there are not some 'baggage' issues coming along with him.

Count me as cautiously optomistic.

Gentlemen. We got the 7th pick in the draft?

Who do you think we should take?

Who do you thtink Al will take?

I think we get Ngata from Oregon. That is if Hawk isnt there. We need front help and withWashington gone and Sapp coming back from injury we are thin up front. Ngata ads size and plays hard.

I see Al taking Michael Huff because of his speed. Not a bad choice but not my first choice.

Ngata and Davis will most likely be gone. You'll probably be stuck with Vince Young.

It's very possible.

Bush
Ferguson
Young
Lienart
Williams
Hawk
Huff
Ngata

That's 8 guys who one could easily imagine might go ahead of V. Davis.

Why do you have Young going so early?

I didn't have Young going early, jim.

I just listed 8 names that could easily be taken before Davis.

Young is one of them.

Who is going to take him? Titans seem to be sold on Leinart, Jets will most likely go with a DT or maybe a LB. The next team to take a QB is your Oakland Raiders.

Tart, the Niners will be taking "The Duke" Vernon Davis at #6.

I don't blame you for wanting him, since he could be one of the best tight-ends ever. You could also put him out at wide-receiver since he will be one of the fattest men in the NFL.(4.35 and officially at 4.38) 6'2 255.

He's a bigger, stronger T.O. with Randy Moss speed, and a great attitude.

His only downside from what I've heard, is his blocking. That's something that can easily be worked on.

The Broncos have been trying to trade up with us for their #15 and #22 pick, but it won't happen.

The Freak

If he was to be a Raider, you guys would end up in the playoffs, fur sure!

Good choice, Pop.

There are rumblings here in H-town that Young will go #1 to the Texans. Rumblings that owner McNair sees Young as a 'too good to let go by' sort of scenario.
A once in a lifetime opportunity.
Hometown kid, local legend, marketing dream, etc etc.....

They inked D. Carr long term in the off season, so it would appear that they won't select Young, but......one never knows what will happen on draft day.

My own opinion is that Young will go before #7 to SOMEBODY.

If Houston wants Young I doubt they would take him #1 when they could trade down to 7 or later and still get Young and a few draft picks AND safe a few bucks on his salary.

Yeah, because we all know Al is predictable like that.

Christ you're a Fucking Tard.

The only predictable thing I see is Al once again fucking over the team. Dude will have a firm grip on the collective asses of the raider nation and will continue to plug away at the black hole until he finally keels over and dies with his final words "Just fuckem, baby!"

I had a thought. Could the Raiders resign CWood for a reduced rate? It looks as if he is geting lil interest and could not come up with a deal with the Packers. Woodsons price has to be falling each day and we could use some help in the secondary particularly at safety. I havent been on the CWood bandwagon in awhile but a move to safety and a bargain contract would be a smart decision by the Raiders IMO.

Honestly, I dont want him back at all.

Due to his workout habits (None to speak of) and his well documented partying tendencies during the season as well as off season, I cant see him being anything more than a locker room cancer at this point.

Which is why im happy that starks and poole, 2 heady veterans who are leaders, were signed. Our young corners are in good hands as it stands.....and im pretty damn sure that either of those proven vets could step in at the safety position and do well.

One thing is certain-the rest of NFL can't ALL be wrong regarding this fucking asshuffer......which is why he still isnt signed. Fuck Him, and good riddance.

I'd like to see Stanford Routte play some FS. He played it in college and has good size. Jarrod Cooper is more of a special teams guy and tends to be out of position when needed. Stu Schweigert with a little more polishing is going to be an outstanding SS.

Christ RJ, everytime someone brings up how fucked up your team is you make like Bruce Springsteen and breakout in Glory Days. Is the situation that bad in Raiderland that you have to go back 26 years as a means to achieve 'bode?

You're slipping. I expected a 10 word description of how I should go fuck myself. Keep your chin up, James. Al's dropping his zipper again and wants to slap his nuts against your face.
