Bodies found in area where two Milwaukee boys disappeared

MILWAUKEE — Autopsies were scheduled today on two bodies found in a park lagoon near where two boys have been missing for almost a month.

The first of the two bodies was found Friday around 7:30 p.m. after a man and his son walking in the park saw something floating, Police Chief Nan Hegerty said.

"It's not a young child, and it's not an adult," Hegerty said. "It's somewhat decomposed. It's very difficult at this early time to make any indication of who the child might be."

Divers from the Milwaukee Police Department and Milwaukee Fire Department found the second body around 10 p.m. Both bodies were fully clothed, had been in the lagoon from quite some time and were bloated, authorities said.

"Apparently that body too had come up to the surface and was caught in a somewhat of a weedy, wooded area of the lagoon," Hegerty said early this morning.

MILWAUKEE - The families of two boys missing for almost a month said Saturday that their bodies had been recovered from a park lagoon near where they disappeared.

Purvis Virginia Parker, 11, and Quadrevion Henning, 12, were last seen on the afternoon of March 19 when they asked Quadrevion's grandfather if they could play basketball at the nearby park. The bodies were found in the park lagoon on Friday.

"Honestly I don't think there was any foul play," said Dennis Frazier, Quadrevion's uncle. "That makes it kind of nice for the family that they weren't held against their own will."

Police did not immediately confirmed the identities. Autopsies were scheduled Saturday and police scheduled a news conference for later in the day.

Frazier said family members had identified Quadrevion from a photo that police showed them. Angela Virginia said she also identified her son, Purvis, from a photo.

The first of the two bodies was found about 7:30 p.m. Friday after a man and his son walking in the park saw something floating, Police Chief Nan Hegerty said.

Police and Fire Department divers found the second body around 10 p.m. Both bodies were fully clothed, had been in the lagoon from quite some time and were bloated, authorities said.

After the boys' disappearance, police and volunteers searched the neighborhood, posted leaflets around the city and made repeated appeals for information anyone might have.

Divers had waded through the lagoon's icy water, but because of the muddy bottom, it was possible the bodies could have been missed in a search, Hegerty said.

The boys' families said the two had no history of running away and had good school attendance records, and police fielded hundreds of calls on a tip line offering possible leads.

A Florida group called A Child Is Missing also had helped police in the search. The group called all home and business telephone numbers within a mile of where the boys were last seen and played a recorded message about the pair, officials have said.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and America's Most Wanted also posted pictures of the boys on their Web sites.
Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase slam dunk...

Did you miss the part where the uncle said there was no foul play? Kids fall through ice on ponds every winter/spring.

It's like you actually root for evil doings.

If your baby disappeared, what would you assume?

and yes, sometimes deaths are accidental -- like that lady here
in New Mexico who disappeared driving back from a party back
in the 80s. They finally found her car in water, with her id beside
what was left of her, which was some ways off the road she was
supposed to be driving on home.

Instead of being abducted, she'd just been drunk, took the
wrong way, and ended up drowning after her car entered the
water.

It's still a sad story... but the family,

anyway, drowning is a scary way to go. Two families have lost
their babies.

Yes it was tragic. What else is trgic is how you assume the worse in every story you bring up.

Here's a thought...Why not a story on Sharpton and Rev. Jesse's inner-city swimming program?

because i'm waiting on their response to teddy kennedy's insulting civil rights comparison when he was pandering to illegal immigrants the previous weekend.... as well as how they're going to address the number crunching games of the unemployment rate, and how blacks (particularly black men) are faring... and what their solutions are beyond marching, coalition building, and silly ass reparations discussions (sharpton only on the last).

The kind that has been doing this for centuries. In case you haven't noticed, the world's a pretty fucked up place and will remain so forever. It's time to accept that it sucks and adjust your outlook accordingly. Perhaps be a little less sensitive and a little more realisitc. Innocents will die in this world, it is a given, so come to expect it and it won't be such a shitty thing for you.

That's how I live when it comes to 99.9% of events that don't directly affect my life. And it works. I have invested no emotion into this and I feel fine as I drink this Shiner Bock.

Read it and weep, while finding a new sig, wolf-crying Bitch

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Two boys missing for almost a month apparently drowned in an icy park lagoon near where they were last seen, and authorities said Saturday foul play was not suspected.

Purvis Virginia Parker, 11, and Quadrevion Henning, 12, disappeared the afternoon of March 19 after they asked Quadrevion's grandfather whether they could play basketball at the nearby park.

The bodies were found in the park lagoon on Friday.

"It's my son," Purvis' mother, Angela Virginia, told The Associated Press by phone. She later told WTMJ-TV that she was now at ease because all she had wanted was closure.

"I got what I asked for because I have to go on from here," Virginia said.

Police Chief Nan Hegerty speculated Purvis, who could not swim, fell in first, and Quadrevion, who was a strong swimmer, tried to save him.

She did not guess why the boys went near the lagoon, which was partially covered with ice when they disappeared, and said the investigation is closed unless someone came forward with new information.

"There was no evidence of any injury or any foul play," said Milwaukee County medical examiner Jeffrey Jentzen. "The bodies appeared to be in conditions that were consistent with having been submerged since the time they'd been missing."

Jentzen said the children could have lost consciousness immediately in the cold water.

"That makes it kind of nice for the family that they weren't held against their own will," said Quadrevion's uncle, Dennis Frazier.

The first of the two bodies was found about 7:30 p.m. Friday after a man and his son walking in the park saw something floating, Hegerty said.

Police and Fire Department divers found the second body around 10 p.m. Both bodies were fully clothed.

After the boys' disappearance, police and volunteers searched the neighborhood, posted leaflets around the city and made repeated appeals for information anyone might have.

On March 23, divers searched the large lagoon, which was as deep as 20 feet, but because of the muddy bottom, it was possible the bodies could have been missed in a search, Hegerty said.

The boys' families had said the two had no history of running away and had good school attendance records, and police fielded hundreds of calls on a tip line offering possible leads.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, who spoke with family members Saturday, said they used the word "closure" with the day's events.

"The uncertainty is horrible, and there is no happy ending," he said.

So, basically, Annie's take (over and over, for years now, substituting the sigs/avatars as the victims change names) is:

"Something bad happened! That's horrible! WHY would anybody cause bad things to happen??? People who cause bad things to happen are bad! Please join me in trying to feel bad over something bad that happened."

Solid take, every time. Never could've gotten there ourselves without such astute guidance. The way she connects those dots; such finely honed reasoning, woo.

She didn't deserve to die.

taken from e's thread at .net (yeah, i know, TWIS... :? )
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/04/15/ok.mis ... index.html

Investigators late Friday found Jamie Rose Bolin's body in a plastic storage tub in the bedroom closet of 26-year-old Kevin Underwood, said Tim Kuykendall, the district attorney for McClain County.

The medical examiner said the girl, who had been missing since Wednesday, died of asphyxiation and blunt blows to the head, Kuykendall told a news conference Saturday. The district attorney added that her injuries were also consistent with a "serious attempt to cut the head off the body."

....

Evidence seized from Underwood's apartment included a decorative dagger authorities say was used to try to decapitate the girl, a hacksaw, a meat tenderizer, barbecue skewers and a wooden cutting board, Kuykendall said.

Also found were a dismantled bicycle under a bed, a mug thought to have been carried by the girl into the apartment, a video of a cable television documentary on serial killers and a computer, Kuykendall said.

Underwood purchased the hacksaw, skewers and meat tenderizer in the months before the girl died, Kuykendall said.

The girl was struck on the head with the cutting board "three to four times," Kuykendall said, and Underwood suffocated her using duct tape and covering her mouth with his hand.

....

Kuykendall said it was believed the girl screamed "numerous times." It was unclear how her cries apparently went unheard.

"She pled for her life," he said. "The first thing out of her mouth when he first hit her was, 'I'm sorry.' "

After the news conference, Kuykendall said authorities believe she did not die immediately.

...

Authorities believe the girl was molested after she had died, Kuykendall told CNN after the news conference.

Her clothes had been removed and placed with her inside the tub, along with a towel to soak up blood, Kuykendall said.

Authorities think she was killed before police were notified that she had disappeared.

"This was well planned out," said said Purcell Police Chief David Tompkins. He added that other individuals, including an woman and a 5-year-old boy, also were targeted and considered.

"But Rose was the one who was selected for this plan," he said.

Police suspect she was selected simply because she walked past Underwood's apartment on Wednesday.

...

That's the nightmare.

Henning and Parker didn't live that nightmare, but they were searched for because there are too many freaks out there who wouldn't mind making it their nightmare.

Their nightmare was drowning, all alone.
