I have no problem with the criticism that he has done it for exatly one year. But if you look at the trend in his passing ability every year he has improved. Every offseason he has worked his ass off to get better.Killian wrote:Vince has had exactly one year where he made great decisions. The year before last, he threw as many picks as scores. Right now, FJ has had one good statistical year in college. One.Vito Corleone wrote: Now I do realize none of this makes a difference in the NFL but what does is the fact that he is 6'5 235 runs a 4.5 40 without even without preparing for it. He has a cannon for an arm with great touch and makes great decisions with the ball.
Other great college qbs never made it, but when you look at the guys who were high draft picks that didn't make it, most had problems that didn't have anything to do with talent but rather whats between their ears. Vince doesn't have that problem, despite what the wonderlic says.
Judging him on the wonderlic is akin to judging a straight A student on a bad SAT score.
And outside of the OSU game, how did he come back in all the games you mentioned?
Ran to pick up the 4th and 18.
Rushing TD's against UofM.
Rushing TD's against USC.
The thing is, people are bringing up criticisms of FJ, yet you dismiss them right away because you are so convinced that he is bound for greatness. You don't for a second realistically think there is a chance FJ can fail.
Last year after spring practice, Vince called a team meeting and told the offense that if they wanted to beat tOSU they would join him for off season workouts. Almost every one of his receivers did and it showed in his passing numbers.
BTW in the Kansas game he may have run for the 4th and 18 1st down but on the very next play he tossed a 27 yard TD pass to actually win the game.
The fact the he does it with his legs has nothing to do with his passing ability, in both the tOSU game and the USC game and the OU game he was carving them up passing. This last year he used his running as both a weapon and a way to keep the defense off balance. There were many times last year I was screaming at the TV for Vince to run the ball but he was so determined to make plays with his arm that he would not run even when he had 10+ yards of open space.
As for dismissing the other criticisms about him, here is a list I have seen about him.
He is too stupid to play QB in the NFL
He scored higher on the Wonderlic than both Steve McNair and Dan Marino. Gary Kubiak made the same comments about Steve McNair and he has had a very productive NFL career.
He has an akward delivery
His delivery has not hurt his passing ability thus far, in his private workouts he wowed the Titans with his ability to hit their receivers against their DBs
His side arm delivery will get lots of passes knocked down
The difference in his side arm delivery vs an over head delivery is a matter of inches, one of the things that can compensate for this side arm delivery is the fact that he is 6'5. Thus his sidearm delivery is probably around the same height as the picture perfect delivery of a guy who is 6'0 or 6'1. Thus I don't see him having any more passes batted down than a shorter QB. BTW I can't think of a single time that he had a pass batted down in college.
In College he was a run first QB
This might have been true back in 2k3 or 2k4 but that all changed last season. If you take away the designed running plays for him I would say he took off and ran on average of 4 plays per game.
He played in a very simplified offense
By NFL standards this is true. I never said he wouldn't need time to learn the offense, but again if guys like Dan Marino or Steve McNair can learn how to run an NFL offense, why not Vince. A smart team would design their offense around his abilities and not try and fit a square peg into a round hole.
Did I miss any of the criticisms?
Here is what he has going for him.
6'5 235lbs
strong arm
quick delivery
accurate passer
great great athlete
tireless worker
great leader
strong will to win
humble attitude
excels in pressure situations
positive attitude
I look at all the things he brings to the table and have no problem dismissing what the critics talk about.

Skull brought up that 1/3 of the time Vince took a snap he ran the ball. He infered that every time he drops back to pass he ends up running the ball 1/3 of the time. Like I said, take away the plays which were designated running plays as in he was never going to pass then you are left with the pass plays that he actually did tuck the ball and run. On average that was around 4 per game.
If you can't understand that you are retarded.

I honestly can't see why anyone would make a statement like this about VY before he ever plays a down in the NFL. There's debate about who the greatest QB's in NFL history are, but Elway and Steve Young would be consensus Top 10's, at least, for everybody with any credibility.Vince Young = John Elway + Steve Young
The sports world is littered with great college QB's who bombed in the NFL (e.g., Ryan Leaf, Heath Shuler, Akili Smith, David Klingler), as well as great college QB's who hung around in the NFL for awhile but never quite lived up to their college potential at the next level (e.g., Rick Mirer, Vinny Testaverde). Let's see what happens at the next level before we start passing judgment one way or the other.
