This video that Diego posted (and earlier Meds) keeps circulating, but it's from either that documentary or the I-Max footage that was shot during Extreme, which I don't have.

Actually, California had its "Big Wednesday" on 12/21/05. Biggest swell to hit the coast in 20 years. I ought to know, I was in the water that day and it was the shizzle.......

All BS aside the 20 footer Laird rode at Teahupoo in Tahiti is still hands down the sickest wave ever ridden! Consider this wave is also as thick as it is tall comming in at 30 knots on a reef that goes from 300 feet down to 3 feet down in about 100 yards!
