My new career as an author....
So I get a call from a friend to write a column for a website dedicated to local football up here. Here's my first column.....feedback would be helpful because I know many of you actually take this stuff seriously and know what you're talking about.

Good read, Lax.
One question though. sc mentioned how he is looking forward to the "anti-USC propaganda". If you are, in fact, going to write a published article, do you kind of see it as a conflict of interest (or anti-bias) considering you are also an on-air personality?
I guess I equate it to walking the Lemming line...

It's a fine line that I have to tow.....I said on the air last year that even though I despised everything about $C (except greg and jimmuh) I respected the hell out of what they have accomplished the last few years. Knowing that there are a lot of people out here that are $C bandwagoners I have to rip on them once in a while. On another note I met a guy who now coaches at UCLA and was with the Jaguars who played at A&M. Todd Howard, do you remember him at all?

Howard was an honorable mention All-American at A&M. He was damn good as were most of the linebacking crew of the late 80s/early 90s. I remember he did certain martial arts in order to win the hand battle with offensive linemen. It's a philosophy/technique he still uses today. Never did much in the pros. Only played a year or two I think with the Queefs.

Interesting read, Lax.
I don't think you're allowed to have spring practice here, although I could be wrong. Seems to me that nobody does it, in any event.
You're right, though -- spring football has the downside of forcing kids to concentrate on one sport at too early a point in their lives.

A couple of grammatical gaffs, but not bad for your 1st time out...
Oh, and this valley is getting way too much Moskal.....Still waiting for the Signal headline reading:
Girls golf coach charged with improper handling..........
Break a typewriter....

Well, Shaz's meltdown had to do with some very personal issues I'm not bringing back up. I was one of the ones giving him such a hard time during his melt, and once I found out why he was melting, I felt very
. He's still a fat fuck one sticker dude, though. ;)
Needless to say, Snake and Shaz's battles (along with Shaz/88 ) had to do with Shaz calling out OSU and the whole Big 10 for the championships won, or lack thereof, over the past 50 years.

Better yet, how about the whole ouskull/Amanda/DMX/Snake saga?IndyFrisco wrote:Come on Lax. You don't remember Snake Plishkin? The Shaz/Snake battles were epic.
You don't remember that either, Lax?
BTW, would it be uncouth to ask how much they're paying you for that? I'm assuming the comment about quitting teaching was tongue-in-cheek.
I actually just found out the other day that I'm going to be writing freelance sports stories for a local newspaper. I'll be covering HS football for the East Valley Tribune. The pay is shit, but it's well worth it for the experience and to get stuff published. I'm pretty stoked about it.

I think I'm getting around 50 bucks an article. Maybe a little less. Who cares, it's going to help my radio gig in the fall. I"ll be more in tune with the kids and what's going on with the programs. Hell yes I'd quit teachint. The only thing I actually like is being the golf coach. I feel like Gabe Kotter most days.
I don't remember that saga either....I guess I miss out on all the soap opera stuff.

Yeah, I'm only getting $40 per story. Ends up being about $10/hr, since the games start at 7 and the deadline is 10:45. But it's all about the experience.Laxplayer wrote:I think I'm getting around 50 bucks an article. Maybe a little less. Who cares, it's going to help my radio gig in the fall. I enjoyed the read enough to toss into the bookmark stack.

I always wanted him for my teacher -- when I was really young, anyway. I was bored with school and figured that a little humor would at least liven things up.Laxplayer wrote:I feel like Gabe Kotter most days.
