My coworker is looking for broadband internet in her area. No DSL is available. No cable internet. No Directv dish internet.
Is this Hughes system I am seeing the only thing that is available as far as satellite internet is concerned? It is awfully expensive. Anyone kow of a better deal than what Hughes is selling?

I don't really know about Hughes, but I'll drop this link in case it might prove helpful in evaluation

It's sad that you can't get broadband internet in so many places. Here, in backward-assed Canada, my parents can get wireless internet and they live an hour away from the nearest city.

Why can't they get Dish internet? That works anywhere in the US as long as you have a clear visual sight of the southern skies. If they don't have visual sight, then none of the satelite solution will work. If its something else, like the dish network company isn't selling its services in the state or something stupid like that, some of the other providers are:
DirecWay (DirectUSA) service: http://www.direcwayusa.com/pricinghome.php
$59/mo
WildBlue: http://www.wildblue.com/getWildblue/sea ... &WT.srch=1
as low as $49
Covad - its for businesses but it may not be too bad.

Anyway, if for some reason Satellite is not available, see if someone sells Wireless connections. A lot of areas with no DSL or Cable have companies install wireless internet solutions, but again you have to have a line of visibility between your location and their antennas, which they generally place on hills and mountains.
Alternatively, although I doubt your parents have the money or you wouldn't be asking this question, but they could always start their own wireless ISP or maybe suggest that people buy into a community ISP, which have been built in areas lacking High Speed Internet solutions.
