Wings-Oilers OT: Call it!
Lidstrom
Man, I missed playoff hockey...this is great!
The Wings won the first and last 10 minutes of regulation. The Oilers dominated the middle 40. Detroit had plenty of pucks on net but Edmonton had the better chances. Legace was great in third...big saves down the stretch. This going to be a very competive series.

Yeeha! So glad the Wings won that one. Losing a multiple OT game where they control the play in the overtime periods would've been very deflating considering the last two playoff years. The Oilers are going to give the Wings hell but hopefully with Datsyuk back in the lineup on Sunday, the Wings can make it 2-0.

Yeah, defently was a great game. And Datsyuk will defently help the PP, which at times looked pretty bad. Ever since he's left we really haven't been able to be patient down low with the puck on the PP. He will also create some more 5 on 5 chances for Shanny and whoever he's playing with. Can't wait to see him back.

Good game.
Too bad the Oilers blew their lead with 6 minutes left. I hope the double OT doesn't deflate the Oiler and they realize that they can play with the wings.
The refs called a pretty good game, but detroit definately got the benefit of the doubt on alot of plays.
Now lets get the split!

Yeah defently. Yzerman should have been given a 5 minute major for that interference he ran. :?Joey Moss wrote:Good game.

Weird.
Sup Blitz?
Yeah, OLN dropped out with about a minute to go. Thankfully, I could flip over and get the FOX 2 feed with Ken and Mickey. I flipped back to OLN in the OTs but they seemed to have a couple of glitches in the first minutes of the first OT. Can't be too picky...just glad the sport is back and the best pro sports tournament is once again underway.
Heck, Bergeron got a 4 minute high sticking penalty when he wasn't holding his stick. I also like how on one of Edmonton's few offesive chances in OT, Dvorak's stick just happened to snap in half.silkyjohnson13 wrote: Yeah defently. What game were you watching? Aside from a few sloppy minutes in the second, the Wings totally outclassed the Oilers last night.
I thought the same way at first, but I changed my train of thought. I thought the Wings would dropone of the first two, and this looked like it was going to be the game. They found a way to win in a situation they had every reason to lose. That was Edmonton's best look at giving themselves some hope and life in the series and they couldn't capitalize. It's going to be a short series. The Rat Pack wrote:The last thing Detroit wants is a multiple OT opener.
If that's what you call 'playing with Detroit' you're in for a long 4 games.Joey Moss wrote:....the Oiler and they realize that they can play with the wings.

AND
The officiating last night was atrocious on both sides. I don't care if they're going to call ticky-tack penalties, but there has to be same gawd damm consistency. A hooking call when the Wing defenseman has one hand on the stick and basically steps aside so as NOT hook or obstruct, and then a non-call on a slash that breaks a stick?!?!?! Brutal. McCreary is the worst official in the league and has been for sometime (except maybe McGough).
As for the cut.....you and Garrett should mix in a rule book. High Stick + Cut = 4 minutes.
The interference call on Yzerman was a fukking joke, and not a funny one.
And Rack Manny FREAKING Legace!!!! It is now officially Manny's turn.

They may have outshot them badly but the Oilers were in that game. I was beginning to think "here we go again" when Edmonton went up 2-1 when the Wings were killing them in shots on goal. I know that any shot is a good shot in the playoffs but Roloson made easy work of most of those chances and the defense played well in front of him. The power play was good but the usual dominant unit it has been this year. The Wings didn't play a great game but I was happy they were able to score 'playoff goals'...rebounds, shots in traffic, deflections...none of those highlight reel goals.
Absolutely, 10-15 shots were from well outside, but you know that's what they do sometimes and I thought, did particularly well last night.......that is put the puck at the net and go hard to the net for a tip and/or rebound, and Roloson coughs up fat, juicy rebounds.
Wings were misfiring a bit and absolutely the feeling of 'here-we-go-again' was prevalent last night. I felt it inside and could hear it in the crowd. When the Maltby goal was being reviewed was pretty tense, that might have buried them in that game. Detroit kept coming and coming and were eventually rewarded, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. Legace was superb in the toughest 1st round/1st game scenario imaginable.....very little action, but the action that occurred demanded awesome saves. Manny and the Wings game through last night's test with flying colors. I look for a rout on Sunday, now that the pressure is off a little bit.
