hey, aren't there some Ohio State folks here?

Well, we started the '02 NC season at #12, but I'd prefer starting this year right around five or six.
I still think Texas or LSU should be preseason #1.

It's interesting that Texas has two freshmen fighting for the QB job and is still ranked #2 whereas USC was knocked down all the way down to #7. USC lost Bush and White, but they have several stud freshmen RB's coming in. As I saw with Lynch, freshmen RB's can come in and play fairly quickly (as opposed to the QB position). USC lost a lot of other top players at other positions, but so did Ohio St., which is ranked #1. Hmmmm.
I'm thrilled that USC is ranked #7 and we are #8. That shows that we have a lot of national respect. But for some reason, the top rankings don't seem quite right to me. Of course, this is just pre-season and there are too many unknowns. I can't wait for the season to start!
My pre-season rankings would be
1. WVU - Best returning team with most credentials
2. Notre Dame - Best QB in nation BY FAR, but is there enough D?
3. LSU - Experienced QB, OL, WR, questions at RB, but solid D
4. Texas - Doesn't lose a whole lot except VY, solid RBs/WRs, OL, and D
5. Ohio State - Proven QB and O, but lots of inexperience on D
6. USC - QB untested, must replace key OL, all RBs, but solid WRs and D
7. Cal - QB unproven, must replace key OL, but solid RBs/WRs and D
8. Oklahoma - Great RBs, and solid D, but can they pass?
WVU looks to have it made...

The neers schedule ought to automatically eliminate them from BCS consideration.

Yeah...until they run into some real competition in the title game. And then we get to enjoy 3 plus hours of a 56-24 bitchslap. If 3 teams run the table, WV included, the computers will sort it out and I hope they get bitched by a 2 loss team from a real conference.88 wrote:I agree with M2. This is WVU's MNC to lose. Yeah because WV is overrated. I mean they dont belong in the BCS.

Hey 'sker fan, go ask a UGA fan if WV is legit. They beat a veteran UGA squad up and down the field with a young young team in a real bowl. I dont know if you remember a real bowl. If you do, it was probaly that beating Miami gave yall...funny that you mention a team getting bitch slapped in the championship game and that is the last thing Neb is known for.
With that being said I wouldnt doubt WV dropping a game in the regular season but it is theres to lose next year.

I'm glad PSU doesn't. The YSU game is hard enough to stomach...I'm not a big fan of playing teams that reside in other divisions.88 wrote:I agree with M2. This is WVU's MNC to lose. I wish Ohio State had that schedule.
Sure, WVU looks to be this year's Louisville...a sure fire BCS participant. Yet, I need to see them get through the season undefeated first, because they always seem to struggle against Maryland. I happen to think that it's tough to go undefeated, even when you play mostly teams that look like shit in April before the season.
WVU definitely proved that they belonged in the BCS last year, though. That showing against Georgia was mighty impressive. RR has definitely been doing some interesting things coaching scheme-wise, as well...all kinds of staffs have been visiting them to learn the stack 3-3-5, and in earlier years, the spread. PSU's coaches visited this spring, which was a significant event in the minds of many long time observers of the two teams.

As a "'sker" fan, you right that we know of a bitchslap or two in a title game. Remember that brutal ass-raping Florida got? Seems we were on the top side of that. That 17-15 loss to FSU was a total botch by the officiating to the point Seminole players were admitting they got outplayed.Mr T wrote:Yeah because WV is overrated. But, yea.....the BCS said NU was to play Miami that year that, in your mind, totally invalidates Nebraska's record run in the 90's.
P.S. Is it okay to talk about college football if your team isn't a top 5 team anymore? No? Guess you better STFU too, then FSU fan.

UGA was a bit overrated last year as was all the SEC. WV is not a bad team and will put up a good fight against most teams but they are not elite.
Texas, Ohio State, LSU, USC, Notre Dame and probably even blOwU would put a double digit ass kicking on them.
Since Spring ended I'm less concerned about the Texas offense as before, I think Texas will finish the season with one or two losses. They may not be BCS bound but they should win the Big 12.
Everything begins and ends in the trenches and Texas should control the LOS against everyone except maybe tOSU.

Agree with you pretty much on that post...
Texas vs tOSU will be another war in the trenches...tOSU returns 3 OL and 2 that played a bunch last year (now replacing Mangold and Sims) will not be easy but there is talent and experience...
DL tOSU has 2 starters back plus some very raw DE's...if they can get 1/2 of Kudla's production out of one of the newbies...color me thrilled...I think it will be key for the Texas OL to protect the new QB and that should be advantage Texas (slight) but an advantage nonetheless...
WVU does have an easy schedule but let's not forget RR is a great coach and yes they did bitchslap UGA up and down the field early and often...not sure how or why UGA got let back into that game but they won the game and that is all that matters...
I feel if tOSU gets by Texas it is there's to lose...
just sayin'

Agree with what Vito said with one exceptiion: Notre Dame.
ND struggled all last year with mobile quarterbacks (see also; Smith, Troy and Stanton, Drew).
ND doesn't have the defense yet to play with spread option/mobile QB teams.

Vito, I don't think Troy Smith played particularly well against you last year. This year, I think he'll play better...and UT will be working with their own neophyte QB. Advantage: OSU

I think it is just Mtool that is riding the win...
PSU I agree as well with your assesment of tOSU vs Texas...Smith did throw the only TD pass for tOSU and of course the drop by Ryan Hamby didn't help matters but the fact is tOSU couldn't put the biscuit in the basket when it mattered what 3 FG's when they had the ball on the Texas side of the field after turnovers and what not...so I am not so sure that falls squarely on TS...but nonetheless he was rusty and I firmly believe that if TS is not suspended for the Alamo Bowl in 2004 and the Miami game in 2005 then tOSU may have just run the table last year...
this year completely different...tOSU returns arguably one of the top offenses in the nation in terms of experience, skill, and weapons...now JT needs to take the gloves off and let TS, TG, and company do their thing until the defense comes around...again that is why they play the games!
When is the beeyotch going to get started September is way to long to wait...ARRGGGHHH...

He didn't particularly play most of the game. That was the problem. OSU was still trying to figure out who their QB would be. Probably cost them the game since Smith was more effective than Zwick but each played about half the game.PSUFAN wrote:Vito, I don't think Troy Smith played particularly well against you last year. Playing babe in the woods is making you look like the dumbass here...not me. Your post had some digs and jabs that involved a past title game. It also came off like my rooting for NU explained why I couldn't agree with your loving thoughts about West Virginia.Mr T wrote:Ok. West Virginia's schedule is weak. Can we agree? Nebraska has taken a fair amount of heat regarding a weak schedule over the years. Agree?
You know damn well a schedule like WVU's would perpetuate that myth. Put the Moutaineers in the Big 12 and they would be lucky to finish above .500

North: They would finish 2nd or 3rd. (Their games vs. Nebraska, CU, and K-State would be a toss up. No way they win all three. Possibly upset by either KU or Mizzou as well)T REX wrote:North or south????Mr T wrote:

South: 4th or 5th. (Texas, OU, Texas Tech= 3 losses with a possible 4th vs. Okie State or A&M)
Translation: No Big 12 title hopes and no realistic shot at the BCS.
SEC : Probably a toss up between them and FLA. You're welcome Trex
