In desperate need of a Mexican

So- I spent last summer inside most of the time- getting ready for the arrival of my daughter. Seeding, cutting, weed control of my lawn was replaced with Painting, Screwing (not the good kind- that's what got me here), Buidling, etc... and my lawn suffered for it. I now have dandelions and dead grass in areas. SHIT!

I am cutting tommorow morning, and applying some Scott's to help with Dandelion problem- but what can I do to get my grass back to its former beauty? I am going to thatch and pick up the dead shit.. but where is the best place to go from there?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Scott's turf builder plus weed contol is what you want to use. Expensive as hell, but well worth it - IF you apply it under the right conditions, otherwise you're just wasting your time and money.

Make sure the grass is wet so that the stuff will stick to the weeds and not just fall off on the ground and become useless. Do it right after a rainfall or early in the morning when there's a heavy dew still on the ground. Spray it down with a garden hose if you have to.

Do NOT apply it if there's any chance of rain in the forecast in the next few days, or it will be washed right off before it can be effective.

Then, sit back and enjoy your weed free lawn.

Yep, that Scotts Turf builder is good shit...a good time to buy the TB is right after you refinance your house. :)

The other day I used the Ace Hardware version of the weed and feed. Already I see weeds dying, including clover. We used to have a "Lawn Shop" that stocked all kinds of seed, fertilizer etc. for the do it yourselfers. I drove by there the other day and the place has closed down. Guess people were buying the regular stuff that gets stocked at your local market.

That's exactly what I was planning on Wags... no rain in the forecast here until next week- so I make a pass with the hose and get it wet.

i don't know where you are but it's getting a little late in the season to seed. it will help but it should have been done about a month or so ago. also, seed again in the fall.

Thanks E.... I wanted to do it in the fall- but my daughter was 1-2 months old- just no time. I'll get what I can now... and then reseed in the fall if I need too.

Make sure you don't let your dog piss anywhere on your lawn. Make sure he/she drops trow in the neighbor's front lawn.

You're lawn will not only start to look nicer but your neighbor's will start to look like shit.

If you didn't seed in the fall, then you should have seeded by tax day. Might as well go out there and do it now.

Since you've got some stuff you want to keep, no use tearing up the lawn. Either rent an aerator or get a pair of these bad boys:

I walk around the backyard like Mr. Leadfoot sticking holes in the dirt as I weed and chase rabbits and go to the compost bin. Tiny holes everywhere give water to the root zone and cover for grass seed.

One day I was wearing these things and the half-mad Wiccan whose property hits the east side of mine came over asking stupid questions. "I think your dogs are coming onto my property and digging holes in my garden" she said pointing to small holes in an area she has yet to actually cultivate. I looked back at my dog to question it about these holes. Those holes were so small that my half-Dalmatian/half-Pit Bull SiLK (Spotted Lethal Kute) would have done no such thing. If my dog had dug such a wussy hole, I would shoot it in the face.

After SiLK declined responsibility, I turned back to the spinster with cats and told her that those sissy holes were the only thing she'd ever grow in that garden. She got all huffy like someone taped over her soap operas. I had prize-winning peppers to tend to and squirrels to berate and no interest in listening to her, so I took off one of my nail shoes and I slapped the bitch with it. It was like Nikita Kruschev as possessed by Freddy Kreuger. That shit stuck in her cheek. I aerated her face. Werd. That shit is still stuck in her face and sticking out of the ground where I buried her. I stuck a compost bin over her corpse because the blood will feed the beneficial microbes. I sprinkled nematodes over her grave to ward off beetle larva.

Yes. When I got out to dinner with the Mrs. on a saturday night I find ample parking at a restaurant owned by the same people who run 4 and 5 stars joints in Philly without driving an hour and half to get there.

No I'm not KC Paul..she usually asks me what's in the bank account and when she can go on an Ann Taylor shopping spree. :x

...I think we got off track here..To answer your question BBM...the best place to go would be the closest Home Depot, there should be plenty of Mexicans hanging around looking to turn your yard into a paradise. Just make sure they pick up all the Coronas when they leave.
