Here's a question (mini rant inside)

Post by Cicatrix »

Why in the sweet name of fuck would you wear your team's visitor jersey to a game?

Your team is wearing dark colors. Wear dark colors like your team. It's that simple.

A good question to ask someone would be "Why do you own a visiting jersey?"

Here are the 2 acceptable answers:

1--"I wear my visitor jersey when my team is playing on the road and I am watching the game at home or at the sports bar with my buddies."

2--"I bought this jersey because I am an asswipe that cheers for a team that is based out of a town I do not live in. Please forgive my sorry existence."

I saw a shitload of Oiler fans in Rexall wearing a visiting jersey. What the fuck is that about? Edmonton is a hockey town and the fact that probably 40% of the jerseys I saw in the stands were white really pisses me off. Truly though there were a ton of women wearing them which leads me to believe that those stupid twats bought them because "the white looked better with her red hair". The men wearing them are either raging homosexuals who also thought it looked better with his hair or maybe just related to Ratpack.

I own a visiting jersey and I wear it only for the reason expressed in answer #1. Anyone wearing one for any other reason is a fucking douchebag.

Here endeth the lesson.

The jersey switch only took place a couple years back, wish the NHL would have it set up where the light jersey was worn half the season at home, and the dark jersey for the other half.

Most of these are new jersey as indicated by player names and numbers on them.

Thats another thing.....numbered and named jersey's. With the regularity that players get bounced around you would be a dumbfuck to buy one like that. Last game I went to some tool was wearing his Oiler visitor BUCHBERGER jersey. I was hoping someone made him wear it as a joke but he seemed pretty proud of it.

The only Edmonton jersey you should ever own with a number on it should be 99.

CT....don't stick up for these fuckwits. You know as well as I do that most of these people just couldn't be bothered, or are too cheap, to do it right.

Only #99? What about Semenko, Kurri, Lowe, Fuhr, ect... Those guys are classic Oilers. I also like guys who ware crappy players from mid to late nineties it shows that they were fans during the lean years. Last night they zoomed in on a guy wearing a Pjodein jersy, I mean WTF were you thinking when you bought that? However, if the player on the back of your jersey is still playing for another team, you should not wear it. Especially if it has Comrie, Arnott, Poti on the back.

What drives me absolutly bonkers is when old players are on the new colours. Gretz never played in the Blue and Copper, he played in the light blue and orange. And spending $350 on a Vintage jersy does not make you cool.

PS - Citrix, after my child is born, I'm coming over to your house and I'm going to wear my white Petr Klima Jersy. It's a little tight and the 86 is pealing off the back, but it's still cool right?

You know, I agree with the point of the original rant, and I'm going to add to it by stating that if the team in question is attempting to have a Sea of _____ (enter colour here), you should probably wear a jersey of _____ colour.

In other words, who are these dumbfucks that show up to Flames playoff games wearing their WHITE jersey when 19250 out of the 19500 of us are wearing RED? Just a pet peeve of mine. When the Flames played the Wings in '04, I actually thought it better for someone to show up in a dark Wings jersey than a white Flames jersey.

And to add to the old players/new jerseys thing, I saw a dude at the Saddledome the other day with a new #12 jersey and the namebar said Iginloob. Nice originality, but a bad idea. Lots of guys wearing the new jersey with #9 and McDonald on the back. Just doesn't work.

And while we're on the topic of game-spirit at the arena, no team should ever fire streamers from the roof of their barn unless they've just won the Stanley Cup. Way to blow your load over little victories, 'chukkers. Lame.

Agreed. I can see streamers if they win the series at home ice but I thought that such stuff for winning game 3 was a bit much.

Radio stations had been talking for a couple days about having people wear their home ice jerseys or dark colors to the game specifically for the Sea of Blue type thing.

Count on Edmonton to fuck up something that could have been even better.

Until they lower jersey prices, I'm sticking with my white Shanahan jersey. If I get a new home one, I'll probably go with Zetterberg.

The thing I'm finding disturbing about news from the 'chuk these days is that everything people want to do seems to be so they can duplicate the frivolity in Calgary of 2004.

Let's have a Sea of Blue.

Everyone in the city should have car flags.

Let's have a "copper kilometer".

As much I think of Edmonton as our younger, naive, buck-toothed cousin city, I would have thought it had enough greatness to stand up on its own and come up with its own ways of celebrating.

Sea of Red vs Sea of Blue... If anything I think Winnepeg started it with the white way way back when.

Copper kliometer? If anything It's whyte ave.

Car Flags were not started by the Flames, Calgary had alot of people putting them on their cars because they were in the playoffs when we were golfing last season. But you can get car flags for any professional sports team.

My recollection is that Winnipeg did in response to the Sea of Red in 1984. But despite recollections and "I did it first" pissing contests, Winnipeg took it and ran with it and good for them. But the Sea of Red isn't a copycat of Winnipeg, regardless of who did it first, and that's the difference when I hear stories out of Edmonton that they're trying to do the same thing as Calgary.
Copper kliometer? If anything It's whyte ave.
Uh, yeah. That's what I'm saying. Do your own thing, Edmonton! In fact, you already HAVE your own thing. Fuck the copper kilometer!

Yeah, I'm aware of that. I still remember Rome's rants about how stupid he thought those Laker flags were years ago.

screw both of you, we have 16 years of championship streamers to get rid of. They been sitting in the back room since gathering dust since 1990.

So JD, is chucking the beef original or copying Detroit?

I would say it's a satirical imitation of Detroit's tradition. When we played the Wings, guys would throw cow tongues on the ice. Satire is always good in my books, so I don't have a problem with that one. The playoff copycat police has spoken!!

But really, it's not about "copying", it's about this desire Edmonton seems to have to duplicate Calgary's 2004. Just make it Edmonton's 2006 and I'm happy. Keep in mind, that's only my perception. You and all your buddies might not feel that way, but that's the perception I get out of the 'chuk after being there and listening to the talk radio for a couple days and reading some things in the paper.

This is why I only buy the classics.

I own...
Red/ Howe, and white/Yzerman

My Tigers Jersey is a throwback Kaline.

My Lions is a Barry Sanders

UM is a #1 in honor of Anthony Carter

If I was into tank tops my Piston Jersey would be an 11 for Zeke.

At the Joe there's always a rainbow of Jersey variations. I've seen international jerseys of Wings players, All-star jerseys, throwbacks, hell when Shanny first came to town there were many out of town jerseys bearing his name. Larionov Russian National team jersey were not uncommon. I imagine there's been a recent run on Swedish Lindstrom's, or Homer's.

Nobody markets merchandise like the Wings.
