Nice to see CU and the Boulder PD really putting tax & tuition dollars to work to track down these heinous criminals.

I think we are coming from two different perspectives. Last year I watched a younger cousin get buried because of a drug overdose. MJ didn't kill him, he died of Heroin, but when we were kids MJ was the first drug he started to use, he later moved on to harder and harder drugs til the day he started heroin.
The difference between my life and his was night and day, but there was a time when we were like the same person. We both used MJ but I stopped and he didn't.
Yes I would not want my son to collect money for turning in someone he knew but I would applaude him if he did it because he cared about that person.

Saying weed is a gateway drug, in my opinion, and I'm not shorting your experience, Vito, because I wouldn't wish that on anybody... but to me, saying weed is a gateway drug is like saying that breast feeding leads to rape.
Ultimately, people make their own decisions... A LOT of people, through the course of their lives, will make bad ones... it's how you bounce back from the bad decisions that measure you as a person.

Statistics prove that more times than not weed is the gateway to other drugs.
BTW I don't limit my feelings to weed, I consider alcohol to be as bad as weed. Both have the ability to impair your decision mking and both have proven to be gateway drugs to much harder ones.
I don't for the life of me think that these aren't personal decisions but if our ability to make decisions is impaired by the effects of these drugs then how can we not see that it is a cycle that leads you down a distructive path.

i've had two close friends die of heroin OD's. i know many many more who have smoked grass for over a decade or more and they aren't on the Nancy Reagan just say no "escalation" theory.
heroin addiction and smoking marijuana are two different things.

Vito having lived in both states let me inform you that the drug problem is far more prevelent in the state of texass than Oklahoma, far more prevelant.Vito Corleone wrote:Yea, because there are no hot girls that are drug free. I guess that could be right in oklahoma.
Marijuana is not a gateway drug either. This little theory has been repeatedly proven wrong by almost every study outside of America, including the most recent study done by the University of Cologne. Alchahol is a far more serious "gateway" drug than marijuana.
The only reason that Marijuana has been turned into a minor gateway drug is because we have put controll of its distribution in the hands of criminals.
I don't smoke it personaly, anymore. I don't feel the need to endanger my family for something so trivial but I do feel it should be legal. I'd rather someone get high than drunks but that is JMHO.

Someone who has the personality type to use heroin will almost always use other drugs. This does not mean that the other drug caused them to use heroin.
Way more pot smokers (even heavy pot smokers) end up not being heroin addicts than those who do. There's obviously a progression that addicts go through. They probably start with alcohol and tobacco, move on to weed, then to ecstasy, LSD, & coke, and finally end up on heroin. I would imagine this "gateway" effect has more to do with availability than causality, i.e. it's easier to get ahold of alcohol and pot (and coke, for that matter) than it is heroin. Someone with an addictive personality might start with booze and weed before moving on to heroin, but way more people are perfectly content with the effects of a few beers and/or a few tokes off a joint.
