Assassination Vacation

Post by Ang »

A little non-fiction paperback, and the best book I've read in awhile. Assassination Vacation is so fun I had to tell y'all about it. The author treats the search for facts about presidential assassinations like a road trip, and tells what she finds along the way. She tells enough about all the places in the book that you could find them if you want. This is not a Kennedy assassination book. It basically deals with the Lincoln, Garfield, and McKinley assassinations and historical trivia that happened at the time.

Well written and laugh out loud funny at times. Along with the great detail in which she recouts the assassinations, the author throws in things like taking her nephew to gravesites and wondering why, when he only knows about 90 words that he knows "crypt", and the trivia that Edison and Westinghouse were fighting over AC and DC current at about the time of McKinley's assassination, and the capital punishment folks fell in love with AC due to Edison's arguments that it was so dangerous...then McKinley's assassin was killed in the electric chair by AC a few years later.

I am not usually a fan of anything dealing with presidential history, but this book is just too fun. Hard to find a book that packs so many historical facts and so much humor in so few pages.
