ah--the Ed Sullivan show--
where else could everyday folks be exposed to
circus/juggling acts, new comedians, opera singers
,Broadway show tunes, rock groups like the
Beatles, and for the kids: Topo Gigio, Senor Wences,
and the Muppets
---all on one hour of prime time TV !!!

Sadly no such thing exists today.

I laughed---
Ethel Merman AND John Byner
where else ???

reminded me of the story about Mick Jagger
and the "Rollin'Stones" were on after James
Brown and the Famous Flames---
allegedly Jagger realized he had to do a bit more
than just stand at the mike and sing and the
rest they say is history !!

The true horror of 3 channels was never more evident than Saturday at 6:00 PM

Lawrence Welk, Soul Train or Hee Haw

Well, Soul Train, obviously. Still haven't seen an episode of that in its heyday. Why didn't they have multi-channel when telly was actually good?

I do have the DVD of Jagger having to follow James Brown - better known as the TAMI Show. Oof! And I have a copy of the James Brown gig in Boston the day after the MLK assassination, that was put on TV live to avert a riot in Boston. In fact, this thread has made me put that bitch on right now.

Yeah, that was the one.

I've been searching for the James Brown special on Ready Steady Go! - Dave Clark owns the rights to the show and has spliced in his shitty band's footage into all the re-releases, the bastard.
