Eat my asshole, Kevin White
No offense to Nevada, at all. In fact, rack them for trying to schedule the big boys.
But fuck you Kevin White, you pussy assed mother fucking cock sucker. Leave, now. No one at Notre Dame likes you. To borrow from your own pussy statements, you're a great AD, Sunday thru Friday.

Nevada nearing deal to play football at Notre Dame in 2009

RENO, Nev. (AP) - Nevada is close to sealing a deal to play a football game at Notre Dame in 2009, school officials said.
The proposed meeting would be the first between the two schools.
"We're just working out a couple of minor issues right now," said Rory Hickok, a Nevada associate athletic director who handles football scheduling.
"We've gone back and forth a lot. I am optimistic that we can wrap this up in fairly short order," he told the Reno Gazette-Journal.
The game likely would be televised on NBC, which has a broadcast deal with Notre Dame, Hickok said.
"To have a chance to play against that program is just a great opportunity," Nevada coach Chris Ault said.
Nevada won a share of the Western Athletic Conference title and went 9-3 last year, including a victory over Central Florida in the Hawaii Bowl. The Fighting Irish were 9-2 and lost to Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl under coach Charlie Weis last season.
Hickok said talks with Notre Dame began nearly two years ago when Nevada was one of a handful of schools that agreed to rearrange its 2004 schedule so that Notre Dame could open its season against BYU that year.
The changes called for Nevada to open its season at WAC foe Louisiana Tech and it also changed the dates of the San Jose State and San Diego State games that season.
Nevada has stepped up its efforts to play big-name schools since Cary Groth, formerly at Northern Illinois, became athletic director in 2004. The Wolf Pack host Northwestern and play at Arizona State in the upcoming season, play at Nebraska in 2007 and at Florida State the following season.

I'm no fan of White either, Killian (him pussying out and trying to join the ACC was the final straw for me), but IIRC, Nevada moved a game as part of the dominoes falling so that ND could open against BYU in '04. The quid pro quo was that we promised them a game, along with San Diego State, who also moved a game to accommodate ND.
Cancelling out on that obligation would be much more of a pussy move than scheduling them is, under the circumstances.

It's more that he actually re-worked the schedule to put BYU before the UofM game, and because of it, he had to book this game. If that was part of the deal, it should have been a deal breaker.Terry in Crapchester wrote:I'm no fan of White either, Killian (him pussying out and trying to join the ACC was the final straw for me), but IIRC, Nevada moved a game as part of the dominoes falling so that ND could open against BYU in '04. I know ND has to fulfil this obligation, but the fact that this obligation exists is testament to his suckatude.

Okay, I get your point now.
Seems to me that White reads ND Nation quite regularly. More to the point, I think he's scared shitless of that site, and his administration is more reactive to ND Nation than it is proactive.
But in any event, White clearly was caught with his pants down viz. the '04 schedule. That should never happen to ND. I'm not saying that the rest of college football should bow down and collectively kiss our ass, but we should be able to make a relatively easy scheduling adjustment so that we don't have to open against Michigan, if that's what we want, without becoming beholden to a handful of mid-majors.

I think White is more reactive in everything, than proactive. There are many examples of this (Davie, O'Leary, Ty, BCS agreement, 4 out of the first 5 games on the road last year, BYU, etc.) which is the main reason I think he is not cut out for Notre Dame. And that's not even taking into consideration your point about the ACC.Terry in Crapchester wrote:Okay, I get your point now.

His wanting to play a schedule of 7 home games, 4 away games, and 1 neutral site reeks of pussy, too.

Is that still the goal? I know we're playing 7 home games in '06 and '07, but there'll be five true road games in '07. And Navy in '06 is always played on a neutral field.Killian wrote:His wanting to play a schedule of 7 home games, 4 away games, and 1 neutral site reeks of pussy, too.
The one positive, potentially, as to playing 7 home games is that we might be able to renegotiate the NBC deal upward, although the on-field performance of the team will have a much bigger impact on that possibility.

Well then, after Vito's post I guess I should reconsider my stance on Kevin White, considering under his watch ND has a women's basketball championship, and one or two fencing titles.
Oh wait, no I shouldn't.
AD's at major schools should be graded on two things: 1) The success of the football team and 2) The success of the basketball team. Obviously, you adjust 1 and 2 according to school, but that is the end all, be all. So far, Kevin White is batting a big fat fucking zero.

Also, the lacrosse team made the Final Four in '01, the first team west of the Ohio River to do that. Terry,
On your question about the schedule, yes, White's goal is to have 7 home games, 4 away games, and a rotating neutral site game each year. Every other year it will be Navy, but they want to add neutral game sites in every region of the country.
Also, good point about the Lacrosse and baseball teams. Although, White didn't hire Mainieri.

I've looked over that list twice now, and I still count zero championships. Maybe you can help me out... what the shit does Women's Indoor Track and Field have to do with sports in general, and this message board in particular?
Tejas has ONE National Championship in the last 10 years... and if they manage to fuck up OU / Tejas in Dallas, then I'm pretty sure that I can't count that one either.

Ane we still can't get you to finalize the four game plan/contract that has been on the table for three years now, with no signatures? How many times do we have to play at South Bend to get a return trip? Home-Home-Neutral-Neutral sounds pretty damn fair for all the past "considerations" you now owe us.

As we've had this argument before, I have never seen anything drawn up where OU was anything but a 1 game series, or at best, ND promised a return date in the future.SunCoastSooner wrote:Ane we still can't get you to finalize the four game plan/contract that has been on the table for three years now, with no signatures? This link also has ND and Oklahoma playing a two-game series in 2013 and 2015, but it would appear from this link that both are neutral-field games.
I realize the possibility that both links are out-of-date. In any event, ND likes to finalize its schedules about five years ahead of time, as a general rule (although we're well behind that pace right now), so I would expect it'll take at least another two years or so for a deal to go down, or not.

Those are the "reported dates" for the home and homes, the neutral sites are even further down the line. Something like 2017 is the first neutral (Chicago).Terry in Crapchester wrote:This link has Oklahoma playing a home-and-home against ND in 2013 and 2015.Killian wrote:As we've had this argument before, I have never seen anything drawn up where OU was anything but a 1 game series, or at best, ND promised a return date in the future.SunCoastSooner wrote:Ane we still can't get you to finalize the four game plan/contract that has been on the table for three years now, with no signatures? There is a similar site that OU has called soonerstats that has those games listed as possibilities but no contract.

Actually, Killian, one good thing to come out of the deals to play San Diego State and Nevada is that both are season-openers (in '08 and '09, respectively). So scheduling a game ahead of Michigan is already taken care of in those years.
One less opportunity for White to step on his own crank, I suppose.

ND is not their season opener. Why should they expect to be ND's?
Btw, is Rutgers going to be our 8th permanent opponent? We dump Fredo after 2010. It looks like Rutgers is already on the schedule from 2010 to 2016.

Not sure about Rutgers, but it wouldn't surprise me given Weis's NJ connections and the fact that ND has a very big presense in NJ.
As for UofM fans, that stems from Bo and his "gentleman's agreement" that he thought existed between ND and UofM. Bo got pissed in '89 when ND played in the kickoff classic against UVA. After that, UofM has always had at least one game before ND, with the exception of '90 and '98.

THis is not about personl opinion the AD is responsible for the entire athletic program. Yes Football and Basketball are the big money makers at most schools but he still must take care of everything else especially the girls since if those programs go down so does the mens programs.
Yes this is a football board and I realize no one cares about any of the sports mentioned above but when they calculate the top athletic programs in the country no one puts more weight on sports shown on ESPN vs those on the Ocho.
Deloss is right now the top AD in college sports.
Even if we just consider the sports we give a shit about, football basketball and baseball, he is looking even better with two MNC and an elite 8 finish in the last 365 days.

I think the point is Track and Field, Swiming and Diving, etc. don't pay for the entire athletic department like the way football or basketball can. At any major program, AD's should be judged on these two sports first and foremost. If they don't do well with these two, no need to look at the rest of the olympic sports. If they do, then continue on with the evaluation.

Not to mention ND's membership in the Big East for other sports, as well as ND's tie-in with the non-BCS bowls with Big East tie-ins. Of course, the latter could wind up a non-factor if the football program continues to improve, and the former could also wind up a non-factor since there's at least a possibility that by 2010 the Big East will split along football/non-football lines. If that happens, for my money ND most likely would go with the non-football schools in basketball and olympic sports.Killian wrote:Not sure about Rutgers, but it wouldn't surprise me given Weis's NJ connections and the fact that ND has a very big presense in NJ.

And while we're on the subject of AD's in general, and ND's AD in particular . . .
Killian, any idea why the Big East doesn't keep its conference together for lacrosse? The ACC has only four schools that field a lacrosse team, but keeps its conference together. The Big East has seven members that play lacrosse, yet all are split up -- Villanova plays in the CAA; Georgetown, Rutgers and St. John's all play in the ECAC; ND plays in the Great Western Lacrosse League; Syracuse plays as an independent; and Providence plays in the MAAC. http://www.sportrow.com/College_Sports/ ... 1_Lacrosse
Seems it might make more sense to keep these schools together, but that's just mho.

I do and every other red blooded american male on this board most likely does as well. I totally understand how this concept escapes your grasp.Yes this is a football board and I realize no one cares about any of the sports mentioned above but when they calculate the top athletic programs in the country no one puts more weight on sports shown on ESPN vs those on the Ocho.
The Same mister Dodds that whornfans.com wants to resign post haste right?Deloss is right now the top AD in college sports.
Even if we just consider the sports we give a shit about, football basketball and baseball, he is looking even better with two MNC and an elite 8 finish in the last 365 days.

Lest we not forget the stellar deal he negotiated for our BCS share! he will go down for doing two things correctly, firing Ty and hiring Charlie.Killian wrote: But fuck you Kevin White, you pussy assed mother fucking cock sucker. Leave, now. No one at Notre Dame likes you. To borrow from your own pussy statements, you're a great AD, Sunday thru Friday.

He also wasn't the one who made the call on Charlie. That came directly from Afflek-Graves and Jenkins.Legacy5.5 wrote:Well he was actually against firing Losingham. So make that one thing he did right and add a fuck you from me too!
Terry,
As for Lacrosse, I think it's similar to the CCHA and hockey. Syracuse has always been an independent because they are the ND of the lacrosse world. The other schools you mentioned are up and down, but usually solid. Hopkins, Penn, and others are always at the top of the game in LAX.

Another problem with Kevin White is that, even on the rare occasions when he is proactive, he's not doing a good job. He has no ability to look beyond the short-term financial bottom line as to what's in the best interests, long-term, of the football program.
I have no doubt that if the price is right, and Kevin White remains as ND's athletic director, at some point in the future you'll see Notre Dame sporting pink and purple polka dot uniforms and playing in the Sun Belt Conference.

Upon further review, I think the proper analogy as to Kevin White is that he's a great AD April through August. That allows for his inevitable fucking up of the football and basketball programs.Terry in Crapchester wrote:Except during basketball season, of course.Killian wrote:To borrow from your own pussy statements, you're a great AD, Sunday thru Friday.

I find it funny that the same guy who 2-3 years ago was going dorm to dorm talking about how ND may be forced to join a confrence, is now issuing statements that ND wants to get as far away from confrence affiliation as possible.
He's Waylon Smithers.

I could be wrong about this, but I get the impression that he wanted to steer ND into a conference, and saw the ACC expansion as the perfect opportunity to do so. He underestimated -- badly -- how importance independence is to much of ND's fanbase, so now he's done a 180 to try to correct himself.Killian wrote:I find it funny that the same guy who 2-3 years ago was going dorm to dorm talking about how ND may be forced to join a confrence, is now issuing statements that ND wants to get as far away from confrence affiliation as possible.
If you're looking for comparisons to a TV character, I'm more inclined to say that he's George Costanza while George was working for the Yankees. Like George, for some strange reason he can't get fired no matter how badly he fucks up.He's Waylon Smithers.
