New red hot chili peppers
I WAS thinking about getting the new RHCP today for a cheap price at the local mega mart here, but now after listening to the 30 second clips on Rhapsody, I'd have to say I'm not going to get it now.
What the hell happened to Anthony Kedis' singing style? I read an article where he sings with more melody and tone because he wasn't singing right. If that means that he now can every second song sing slow boring songs where he sounds like a whiny puss, then I guess he's singing better.
Sure some songs sound like they rock, but they're not that cool. It's like they are trying to sound like they're laid back while rocking. Maybe I'll change my mind when I finally hear the full songs, but these clips are sending me straight away from my wallet.
Anyone get it? What do you guys think?

'Sup, 'Large...
Screw the clips. The local Alternative played the entire double album yesterday during the evening drive. Along with Danni California, Snow, Slow Cheetah, and Especially In Michigan are destined to be RHCP classics. If you are truly a Chili Peppers fan, I think the CD is definitely worth the coin.
One man's opinion...

i get the feeling (one that i can somewhat relate to) the up lift mofo party plan didn't ever have a vision of being 40. since Blood Sugar and the truly awful One Hot Minute......Anthony seems to have trouble converting aging into a "soulfulness"...which he seems to be trying to do and in the meantime discovered that much of life and his former love L.A. basically kind of suck--Californication. back on point, he never sounded more soulful than on Freaky Styley's Sly Stone cover "If you want me to stay". i won't buy this record but i'm interested in the RHCP to a degree--live shows in the mid/late 80's were hell on wheels.
here's a review....which sounds about like i'd have expected....FYI....and JMHO above.

Gotta love a band than can rock and be funky at the same time!

I get to a point where I think all RHCP songs sound the same. There are only a few that stand out to me. I liked "Dani California" a lot when it came out, but I haven't really had the urge to listen to it lately. My favorite in the whole world is "Otherside". I also like "By The Way" and "Under The Bridge". None of their other songs have really struck me, though. Maybe one day I'll have an "RHCP listening hour" and try to find more. I've never really been a huge fan.

Never had much use for the Chili Peppers. A few good songs here and there, but nothing worth spending money on.

FUCKFUCKFUCK!!!!!!
Just found out RHCP is coming, which wouldn't be that big a deal to me, in and of itself. The problem is, that The Mars Volta is opening.
The show is at the Rose Garden Arena. Shitty place for a concert, and my big-arena-show days are about over, unless it's outdoors. Been there, done that, and it has lost a lot of appeal to me.
The show is also on August 11, which is a friday night, and I believe is the first night of The Bite. They haven't announced the acts for The Bite yet, but they've booked solid, solid bands the last few years. Last year was The Decemberists followed by the Violent Femmes(plenty of bands all day, but those were the big names). Year before, I believe it was Death Cab followed by TMBG. Pretty serious shows for $5, and I've had way better times at The Bite than at just about any arena show I've ever been to. Plus, I generally pull, or make a drunken attempt at pulling some deece strange at The Bite, so I guess I'm going to have to wait for the next time TMV comes to town, hopefully somewhere besides the big arena...hopefully outdoors.
Fuck. I've got a serious jones to see TMV, which I have yet to do. And since I think they're definitely one of the better bands to come along in quite a while, this pains me. But it doesn't pain me enough to pay $8,000,000 to go see a show at a shitty arena, and since my bestest bud doesn't have access to the luxury suite at the arena anymore(that was a sweet deal), I just can't see myself going.
I dig Flea, though. That band has Geogre Clinton's name tattoooed across their foreheads.
Speaking of which...might have to go check George out at the Crystal later this month.

I'd go with a pretty similar take.BSmack wrote:Never had much use for the Chili Peppers. A few good songs here and there, but nothing worth spending money on.

Seen 'em live twice, once when they opened their tour for Blood Sugar album at the semi-tiny Peony Park in Omaha. They headlined followed by opening acts Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam (no shit). They were pretty good. Every album after that has been a disappointment, so I kind of lost interest in them. To each their own.
