with all the insider hoo-haw and expert hoops ciphers and opinion at OUinsider...they all know the "real" scoop, inside fact over popular opinion.......a post that asks a simple, timely, and factual to the point question: nets zero replies in over 200 viewings. where are the posters who are otherwise "inside the program"? and have "sources". and post about it constantly.

KC, I gave up on that insider shit a while ago. Decided to just wait things out and not speculate too much, it is not worth the worry, besides who cares if you find out something hours before anyone else, it does not mean you are more or less of a fan.
Usually if you know the local media and their bullshit you can get a feel of what is going on and what is going to happen, they know less and less now days and seem to be used as puppets to misdirect attention.
This is my feel on the OU basketball program. We are in deep shit at this point with the lack of scholarshiped players OU is going to struggle in the big 12.
Fuck all the Sampson haters and fuck all the Sampson lovers, that time is gone, we have a situation and the true fans will stick with it win or lose.
I am not saying that Capel cant win, he should at least be able to go .500 overall for the first two years, I am not going to put a ton of expectations on him, he is coming into a bad situation.
At this point I have no reason to doubt Joe Castiglione, he has been solid with all of his hires, but no one is perfect.
I love OU basketball and will always be a fan, fuck the inside shit. It is much more important to me to just be fan of the program, I don't have to get the scoop before anyone else does.

it's less the actual answer that interests me--it;s just with all the sound and fury that the "bigtime" scout posters think of themselves.....that an actual question as simple as that goes utterly unswered.
they all know someone who saw Crocker in high school and we haven't seen the real new JUCO Capel is in on since so an so's cousin saw him beat MJ in jr.high...etc. yet, somehow, the most obvious question of the weekend passes like a silent fart with no smell.

i don't know enough about Kilgore to have an opinion on him--though his terrible FT% is scary.....him and Longar on the floor in the last 5 minutes of a close game would be a disaster waiting to happen....and certainly a stratagery move to foul from opposing coaches.Believe the Heupel wrote:He hasn't received permission to visit other schools, so he did not take an official visit this weekend. Hale says nothing was planned this weekend.
I'd be OK with the class if we can end up with Marvin Kilgore, Hernol Hall, Keith Clark, and Tony Crocker. Save one scholarship for next year's class (and barring a complete meltdown, I think next year's class is going to be really good) and we should be OK.
Clark qualifying is the key. if Crocker is the player people say, he and Clark make for a solid enough class and Hall would be a bonus. i'm not real sure about this big kid from Houston people are drooling over....last thing we need is another big stiff....if we going to be running motion O. but i guess this assistant Cline is a working with the big man guy.
agree: i'd rather go 12-18 this year and not burn a schollie on some mid-level JUCO just to fill the bench. i think there's a lot of upside to Capel and i'm willing to ride out the bad times as long as we play with effort and appear to be developing and improving. i also don't think getting Blake Griffin is the slam dunk that Insiderites seem to be pre-supposing. kid is getting offers that are hard to turn down.
hell, i was AT the game that Tubbs lost to division III Ohio Northern. losing to the Polar Bears of ONU at home......were it to exist, just TRY and imagine Insider (or even the basketball vacuum at sf.com) after that...

what's up with the insider people thinking that Clark is going to get flagged by the NCAA for his ACT score?
when i took the GRE for grad school, i bought an algebra primer and worked through it since i hadn't taken any math classes since Calculus II my fresh. year. had i not done that i would have scored significantly less than i did. it's a plausible scenario that someone could test once....and then buy a primer and then test again with a higher score...but that seems kinda harsh to flag kids for re-test if they jump 4 points or more on the ACT.
things can happen as with my example....where a person prepares better for the test especially if motivated to qualify to play D-1 ball. it's not like Sean Sutton took the test for him.

Re: "Insider Sources."
I probably have better "insider sources" than 99% of the ouinsider.com board, but whenever I post on that board, I get widely ignored too. The most responses I've ever gotten is when I ripped BBJ a new one, then he actually signed up for the board to defend himself. He and I e-mailed back and forth for a while, and now I really like the guy...

fer real.....?
edit: never mind, it's up on the insiders homepage. funny though, there was a sticky for about 10 minutes on the plebe board saying "do not post or hint at premium info on this board". now it's gone.
that's a great get for Capel. i was not that optimistic that Blake would be a Sooner....in the long run, to be perfectly honest. too many offers to which you just don't say no.

When I went to see my parents today, my dad (who is a huge OU basketball fan) was saying that he heard some talk that one of the "built in advantages" as you say for getting Blake Griffin was that as soon as Tommy Griffin gets his kids through OCS he will go on as an assistant coach at OU.
Now my dad is a old horse trading guy, so loving rumors sort of goes with that territory. You think there is any basis for this one?
Even though I'm not an OU fan, this will be a nice local story for us to follow here. My kid is going to OCS for high school next year, and while he's a baseball guy instead of basketball it will be something we will follow. I welcome anything that will keep my mind off the current debacle of the Oklahoma State program :).

plus, Kermit is an Oklahoma kid...from Okmulgee, America. I guess he and Capel played against each other in the CBA.
and he was bumping the chick from salt 'n pepa.
obviously a lot is up in the air with Clark and Crocker (not qualified? i keep seeing that), Maze, Kilgore, and Hall....but i'm pretty impressed with the way Capel has proceeded. listening to him he's pretty shrewd and very political about saying all the right things. though, he'll learn not to list Malcom X as a hero once he's been in OK for a bit.

i was never real excited by Kilgore. i don't think Malcom X is a bad choice, but being one of them "uppity" types ain't flying too high with Bobby Earl in Bugtussle, OK.
i've been reading some/a lot of the VCU recaps from last year at CBS.sportsline and Capel's teams had some really favorable traits. even games they lost, they outscored their opponents in the second half.
and you see phrases like "furious VCU rally" a lot. i don't know what it means in the long run, but it's kind of fun as a fan in the deadtime of the summer. but, they were real bad from the stripe. blew a 17 point lead against George Mason, additionally.
in the Colonial, Hofstra was the three headed monster....they destroyed Nebraska in the NIT and beat Mason twice.

agree 100%. I saw a list of Hall's interest/those interested and Ohio State kind of worried me....but if he's a JUCO and wants to play....i gotta think OU is the place. Georgia? meh. Charlotte? I like Bobby Lutz as a coach but still how many times are they on TV and 5th fiddle in N. Carolina?
got to think B. Griffin's verbal has really legitimated Capel in some people's eyes. and created some excitement about the future. now, got to get it done on the basketball floor.

Charlotte isn't even fifth fiddle in North Cackalacky; at best sixth: UNC, Duke, NC State, Wake Forest, Duke, East Carolina, heck some might even say, depending on where in the state you are, that UNC-Willimington is more of a draw than Charlotte.

just keep Ms. Roberson north of Lindsey on campus and in the new practice facilities and everything should be awwright. ;)
at this point, you just have to be impressed with the *immediate* results Capel is getting.
sure, he's never coached a Sooner game....but still. getting Hall would be the final nail.
i still think we're a NIT team next year, but I'm OK with that.
