Guitar Wolf: Planet of the Wolves

Post by King Crimson »

Japanese somewhere between the Ramones and search and destroy, new york dolls and the sex pistols... and Link Wray......fucking A. and all the bad production and botched lyrics and alot of yelling and "oh yeah's!!!" and "motherfucker motherfucker!" that you can stand. the whole the record is beautiful mess.

just makes it all the better.

Don't want to hijack your thread, but...

Have you ever heard of Boris? They are a Japanese band getting a lot of run over at stonerrock.com. Their new album Pink comes out on Tuesday, and I was thinking about picking it up.

GARAGE WAS BIG WHEN i WAS IN COLLEGE.

I picked up Kung Fu Ramone and all its overmodulated glory. Damned fine album. Went to see the band last year knowing nothing that they have done for the past 7 years. I was the third oldest person there.

i got some free tix to see Mos Def and Colorado's own the Percussions (pretty cool if you ever get a chance to see them) at Boulder Theater from the kids that do the hip-hop show on the college station (great show) about a year and half ago.

i always have them come to classes i teach in an effort to turn the kiddoes onto good music--and talk about independent radio etc., and they hooked me up. but i was easily the oldest person i saw there except for the bartenders (who i all knew from my own downtown restaurant days).

I'm listening to the Boris CD right now, and it's fucking badass. Pure lo-fi brilliance. The closest comparison I could make would be the Melvins, but there are a lot of other elements too. This is really good stuff.

While we're in a thread about wolves, has anyone heard of Wolfmother? Read about them in Maxim and took a little listen and thought they were pretty good. Anyone else have a critique on them? Thanks.

I really dig the Wolfmother CD. I'd say it even has album of the year potential. I thought about starting a thread about it, but after watching several previous threads die lonely, zero-reply deaths, I'd pretty much given up on discussing metal in this forum.

Wolfmother and The Sword both have the potential to pull a Nirvana and put good heavy music back in the mainstream spotlight. We'll see if either one of them can pull it off.

Thanks for the review. What I heard sounded good, so I will probably buy it shortly.
