Texas' QB depth chart...

Post by M2 »

Texas is starting RS freshman Colt McCoy and his alternate (since a definitive starter hasn't been named yet) is true freshman Jevan Snead. Yet despite this huge falloff from Vince Young the Longhorns are considered to be among the top-5 in most preseason rankings, with some even rating them #1 !

Is there a more overrated team in the land than Mack Brown's Horns?

Texas plays 4 patsies in the first 5 games (North Texas, Rice, Iowa State and Sam Houston State). However, Troy Smith and Ohio State come to town in the second game to take care of unfinished business, and Texas faces Bob Stoops in game six.

Prediction: Mack Brown will be 4-2 after the Red River Shootout against Oklahoma. Look for a revival of FireMackBrown.com (which was temporarily "retired" last year) because Brown has done absolutely nothing to temper unrealistic expectations.

I agree I think we are overrated. I've been saying that since Vince announced he was going Pro.

Texas being 4-2 wouldn't surprise me, but Mack has not had a single season where he failed to win atlease 9 games.

Long story short

If Texas loses only 2 games, every Longhorn fan I know will be jumping for joy.

BTW outside of QB Texas will be as good or better at every other position next year. All our young QBs have to do is guide the ship and let the guys around them do their jobs.

I also don't think Texas will lose to both tOSU and blOwU. The Sooners are very very overrated right now. Bomar is still Bomar and his oline still sucks. Their front 7 will be salty but their Dbs are nothing to write home about. It is hard to tell about tOSU because they lost so much on defense and the game is so early. I see that game going to the team that controls the clock the best.

If Texas does lose 2 next year, do you think it will be to the obvious choices, Ohio State and Ok, or do you think there is a Big 12 team that will surprise in 2006?

Not that I trust the preseason rags but after reading the Sporting News Big 10 preview I have no idea how Texas is going to score enough points to keep up with tOSU. Right now it looks like their biggest weakness is in the dback field and I don't think the pups will be mature enough to take advantage of that. For us to win someone on offense is going to have to step up and have a monster game like Jamaal Charles.

I think Texas has a damn good shot at the spooners because it will be game 5 for our qbs and IMO a lot less tough than the tOSU game. The spooners have two weaknesses their oline sucks and their dbs suck. I like our chances in that game.

I do think however that we are going to drop one we should win like taco tech or Nebraska.

Right now it is just too early to tell.

Colt McCoy...now that's a name for Texas QB. I thought Major Applewhite was a great name...Colt McCoy sounds like a character from the ol' West.

Everyone who sees Jevan Snead for the first time usually is surprised that his skin is pasty white.

Yet, with the inclusion on Vince Young, they are #2 team of all time? :?

tOSU has a knack for winning big games. Even at Texas I see Troy Smith and company being too much for a VY-less Texas with a completely green qb. To have a good shot Texas will have to grind it out with the running attack and win a low-scoring game via tough D.

The OU game should be a close one, Texas will likely have several close-ones this year with ATM, Tech, Neb, and an improved Okie St all going balls-to-the-wall to take out the defending MNC.

Still, there's a LOT of talent left on offense for Texas. Even without VY & the Bag Man, you guys still got Charles, Selvin Young, Limas Sweed, Quan Cosby, Billy Pittman to name a few.

If Snead or McCoy, whoever it is, can spread the ball out to these guys without being forced to win the game, UT could surely be undefeated in mid-October.

The person that Mel Kiper says is the 5th best NFL prospect at CB in college football may not even hold on to his starting job next fall but our secondary is weak?

This is the first time in years where our secondary doesn't have holes. Stick to texass because you don't know shit about OU, vito.

Wolfe isn't even the best CB on his side of the field. Still an exceptional athlete, but if Brett Bowers ever gets in the game we're going to be pleasantly surprised.

And I can't wait to see Reggie Smith at his natural position this year.
Yep DJ Wolfe was called the fifth best CB prospect in college football, by ESPN and Mel Kiper this weekend. It's linked off one of the boards (sooner) can't remember which one it was.

Reggie Smith, Lendy Holmes, and DJ Wolke playing a nickle system sounds scary. Our safties look pretty sick this season as well. The defense maybe 2001/2002 seasons esque. Which is scary having AD and Rhett on offense as well.

Texas won't be better at the position Michael Huff played.

A little bird told me that Chris Patterson has qualified and will be on campus in July.
We get to redshirt Reynolds as well with his injury. Our LBs are going to be SICK Fo-ev-ER, or atleast the next three to four years minimum.

i like the idea of Patterson qualifying. though, i always wonder about our DB coaching. Bobby Jack Wright was hired to recruit Texas, basically (Stoops' first hire). no doubt he's a good football guy.....but this is a prejudice i've had since a kid and listening to my Dad yell all kinds of obscenities at Bobby Proctor (Stanford, WVU, Miami....) OU has never been that great in the D backfield scheme-wise against teams who can spread the field and throw it deep.

i know it's apples and oranges at this point.....but it's haunted me since i was a kid. ATM and MCNeil in 02, OSU, USC, etc.

Just think if Ryan Perrilloux would have stayed put, he probably would have been the starter this year at Texas. Now he is behind a junior at LSU.

The qualifying gods giveth, the qualifying gods taketh away. Daniel Tabon quit going to class and will not make it to campus.
I'll take Smoke. Tabon was a bit of a local boy project from my undersyandiing.

Froz, YOU'RE nearly the athlete Rocky Calmus was. :D

Slow, white, etc, etc... Other adjectives, however, include: Heart, Badass, and Student-of-the-Game. "Athlete" is a stretch though.

Why am I thnking of a movie quote? "Artist? Elvis was an artist... and even he served his country in times of war. That's why he's the King, and you're a schmuck."

Name it.

Teddy wasn't too much of a project. He was state track champion and weighed slightly less than a Mack Truck.

Didn't you say that about Jammer and then Baber, and then Vasher.

Aaron Ross and Terrell Brown are both pure cover corners that will be playing on Sunday. The only thing huff has on what we got coming back at corner is the ability to play safety. We still go the Griffin Brothers at the safety spot so none of our corners will have sto switch back and forth.
