Take another look at this thread. Every single person here who is old enough to remember the "early days" has disagreed with you. Those people are "telling you something" too, yet you've turned a blind eye.
And I notice you still haven't buckied up your exact age...telling.
Now you have chosen to speak of the early years at MTV as only 1981. At that point, they weren't even in that many households. 1982 would most certainly be considered part of the beginnings of the station and in 1982, the station did not want to play "Beat It" for very iffy reasons.
Ohhhkay...let's just stop with the fucking LYING, okay?
"in 1982, the station did not want to play "Beat It" for very iffy reasons."
Ok, Spinmeister...would one of those "iffy" fucking reasons be that Thriller was released in FUCKING DECEMBER OF 1982?
And it must have been a HUGE fucking deal at the time...since Beat It was premiered on...you'll never fucking guess which station...in March of 1983?
So, according to YOU (and some mystery revisionist historians on the internet), MTV REFUSED to play Beat It...according to FACT, MTV was airing it very shortly after its production....and they had already aired Billie Jean at that point. I believe they PREMIERED Beat It, matter of fact...which blows your entire freaking argument out of the water.
Sorry, Vic -- you're just spewing
flat-out LIES.
Oh, and BTW -- some of us are old enough and well-informed enough to know that the video for Billie Jean came out before Beat It...just so's you can keep your revisionist history straight.
And I couldn't care any less if JJ Jackson though the Specials, Madness, Tenpole Tudor, Ultravox, and Classix Neuveaux were "rock and roll" bands. That's who MTV was playing in late 81/early 82. And FACT says that in those days, MTV had all of about 10 videos in its entire rotation...because that's about how many videos were out there of the genres they played. Definitely not a format one would expect to see Michael Jackson and Rick James making a heavy rotation in...kind of like my local metal station at the time didn't play them, either...must have been part of this racist conspiracy, too.
Damn, much more of this, and you'll have to change your nic to Purvis-Quadreveonictus.
