I think BSmack is implying that the weapon's barrel is not pointed at his head. While it might LOOK like it's pointing there .... it might not actually be.

Meanwhile the vast majority of people who have handled weapons are suggested it's poor form, no matter what it looks like.

Again, I don't see the gun aimed at Gore's head. I see it tilted to the side.

Notice how Gore is clearly leaning to the right?

Notice also how Gore's hands are both on the strap? Yet the gun barrel is clearly outside the scope of Gore's hands?

Yes, I'm going to presume that he did not clear the chamber. In that one photo alone there are two very serious safety violations that would get you tossed from any range on the planet, so there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to believe that he suddenly remembered to clear the chamber.

SAN DIEGO – A man who brought an assault rifle to a Mount Hope auto shop accidentally shot and wounded a 17-year-old co-worker Friday morning as he was showing the gun off.

The shooting happened at Fleet Supply Inc. on Market Street near 41st Street at 8:21 a.m., said San Diego police Detective Gary Hassen.

The 42-year-old man who brought the Kalashnikov rifle, commonly known as an AK-47, to work did not know the gun was loaded, Hassen said.

There was no ammunition clip in the gun, but it still had a round in the chamber that discharged when the man pulled the trigger, police said.

The teenager was hospitalized with wounds to his right hip and left buttock, police said.

The gun's owner was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

No one else was injured in the incident, police said.

His head isn't turned up and behind him. He has no way of verifying whether it is aimed at any of his fellow soldiers' heads or not.

Yup...still in violation of Rule #1, regardless whether it's aimed directly at his melon or not, and regardless whether he checked the chamber or not.

That being said, how do you explain how you and mv came to the exact opposite conclusion regarding where the weapon was being pointed? Kinda goes to my whole point which is that the picture cannot possibly tell the whole story.

The weapon has a flash suppressor on it, so the actual fire from the barrel will be reduced, but there is a substantial amount of concussive shock, particulate projection and NOISE when and IF the weapon discharges.
