Rebel Meets Rebel (David Allan Coe/Pantera)
Anybody else pick this up? It's D.A.C. with Vinnie, Dimebag, & Rex from Pantera. It was recorded before Dime was murdered, obviously. Just came out last week.
I have to say, I'm really underwhelmed. As much as I want it to be good, it's just really cheesy, for the most part. I think this one falls into the classic "looks good on paper but..." category.

The lyrics are just corny as hell, and most of the riffs are pretty forgettable.Headhunter wrote:Bummer. That was high on my list of Albums to pick up.
what's the problem with it? Love Dimebag. I know his playing can't be the issue.
What's the 411?
FWIW, I'm more of a Phil fan than a Dime fan and I didn't think much of Damageplan either. So I guess if you're really into Dime, you might want to give it a shot. I just wasn't very impressed.

Maybe a little bitter? And I'm not trying to smack ya either. Pantera fans got split by the breakup. Some sided with Dime and Vinnie, others climbed on stage and murdered a guitar icon in cold blood (kidding... settle down).MiketheangrydrunkenCUfan wrote: FWIW, I'm more of a Phil fan than a Dime fan and I didn't think much of Damageplan either. I caught the VH1 Behind the music on Pantera last week, and couldn't listen to shit Phil said without thinking about how he contributed to Dime's death. I also saw Phil will be doing some Shows with Alice in Chains and thought about how missing those would be no big deal. Point being, I know I'm a little bitter.
I guess I'll have to check it out myself. I've been looking forward to this album for a few years and had some pretty high expectations for it.

Not really bitter. Just realistic. I totally agree that Phil is way more of a pompous ass than Dime & Vinnie. But his post-Pantera work is also 1000x better. Superjoint is pure old-school thrash metal. Damageplan was warmed over nü metal.
Phil singing for AIC sounds pretty fuckin' cool. Then again, so did David Allan Coe singing for Pantera. :P

Nah. AIC's greatness was all about the unique interplay between Layne and Jerry. I don't think that can be reproduced. Especially considering AIC was something of a "check your ego at the door" band (too bad they didn't also have a "check your syringes at the door" policy"). And if there's one figure in modern rock that I think would struggle with "checking his ego," it would be Phil.
Great musician, horrible person.

You're right. What was I thinking? After all, every heavy metal song ever written has had corny lyrics, so why would I expect this to be any different?MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:Dude, it is metal..you expected anything different?MiketheangrydrunkenCUfan wrote:The lyrics are just corny as hell

MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:Dude, if you weren't such a mulleted metalhead, you'd ditch those corny fucking lyrics, and hitch your wagon to such brilliance as this:
Her name is Yoshimi - she's a black belt in karate
Working for the city - she has to discipline her body -
Cause she knows that it's demanding to defeat these
Evil machines - I know she can beat them -
Oh Yoshimi
They don't believe me
But you won't let those
Robots defeat me
Oh Yoshimi
They don't believe me
But you won't let those
Robots eat me
Those evil natured robots - they're programmed to
Destroy us - She's gotta be strong to fight them -
So she's taking lots of vitamins - cause she knows that
It'd be tragic if those evil robots win - I know
She can beat them -
THAT was a KYOA post if I ever saw one, MGO.
Sad...just sad.
But hey, at least it's set to the most uncreative, uninspired excuse for "music" I've ever heard.

The only "strawman" here is your use of the word "strawman" to divert attention from the asswhooping you laid on yourself...douche.
You say "strawman"....legal-types refer to that as "establishing the witness's credibility."
You may step down now...the bailiff will show you to the door.

How the fuck does one "kick their own ass" by submitting a negative opinion toward something? The only "strawman" here is your use of the word "strawman" to divert attention from the asswhooping you laid on yourself...douche.
And yes, not only what you posted was a strawman argument in its purest form, it didn't even do anything to support a position FOR metal lyrics - WHICH IS THE SUBJECT MATTER HERE, MORON. Pay attention.
One other note - I love how you can ONLY reference the Flaming Lips to denigrate my takes. You DO realize there are other bands I not only listen to, but admire much more, right?
Mix it up.
Making the reason why you chose to nail yourself to a cross that bears a strange resemblence to a pair of big pink gloves all that much more baffling.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:You DO realize there are other bands I not only listen to, but admire much more, right?
But, way to try the quick subject-change.
I guess I'll explain further --
Seeing who you've gone to bat defending in the past, I'm a lot more inclined to seek advice from JTR on pulling chicks, and several times more likely to ride in a space shuttle designed by Cicero, than I'm likely to listen to anything you have to say about lyrical content.

Heard rumor that Ben Gibbard recently packed it up and moved to Portland(a quick websearch didn't confirm this).MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:I don't have a Dins-to-Reality translation source handy
But, it is kind of the in-thing to do these days.
And since he's encroaching on my home and further overcrowding it, this entitles me to steal his music at will...in my mind.
I hung out at the Crystal before him and Modest Mouse and Malkmus(MM and Malkmus hang out there quite a bit from what I understand...not that I've ever met them or anything), making me cooler than them by default.
Of course, anytime you care to hear the "World According To Dinsdale," just give a hollah'. I've been known to be fairly forthcoming with such things.
