Bruce fucking Springsteen
Let me start by saying that I've never been a huge Springsteen fan and I don't own any of his albums. I went to see him live last night because my friend's GF scored some tickets. What a fucking great show! He's touring with an 18-piece (or thereabouts) band supporting the Seeger Sessions album. The show had a real bluegrass/country/old-timey feel. His band was amazing. This will probably sound like heresy to some people, but fuck the E Street Band. He should take these guys out with him on every tour.
If you get a chance to see this tour, I'd recommend going. It made me see The Boss in a different light. I'm going to have to pick up that new CD now...

"Keys, woman!"
2nd. The Seeger Sessions are in regular rotation here, excellent stuff.
Well, the doctor comes 'round here with his face all bright
And he says "in a little while you'll be alright"
All he gives is a humbug pill, a dose of dope and a great big bill
Tell me, how can a poor man stand such times and live?
He says "me and my old school pals had some might high times down here
And what happened to you poor black folks, well it just ain't fair"
He took a look around gave a little pep talk, said "I'm with you" then he took a little walk
Tell me, how can a poor man stand such times and live?
There's bodies floatin' on Canal and the levees gone to Hell
Martha, get me my sixteen gauge and some dry shells
Them who's got got out of town
And them who ain't got left to drown
Tell me, how can a poor man stand such times and live?
I got family scattered from Texas all the way to Baltimore
And I ain't got no home in this world no more
Gonna be a judgment that's a fact, a righteous train rollin' down this track
Tell me, how can a poor man stand such times and live?

I've never been a huge fan of him either...always just liked a few songs here and there. My best friend's husband is a fanatic, though, and I consider him to be a music snob with generally good taste. I'm gonna check out this album too, because I've heard good things about it...and not just from you. Glad you enjoyed the show!

Back in the mid 80s I fucking HATED Bruce Springsteen. In particular, I couldn't stand the album Born In The USA. Since then, I've mellowed a bit on Bruce. In fact I think he's pretty fucking good now that I don't have to hear him every hour on the hour.

Marry Don't You Weep is my favorite.MiketheangrydrunkenCUfan wrote:Picked up the Seeger Sessions album yesterday. I'm digging it. Kinda reminds me of the O Brother soundtrack.
BSmack,
Born in the USA is by far the most dis-liked album by the Bruce fans, that he made with E Street. It was the CD that I listend to the most (I was 7) so I have a fond place for it in my heart. When comparing it to his other work with E Street, it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Some of his music has made for outstanding covers, though...
Blinded By The Light....Because The Night...shit, there's more...I'll think of them.
His greatest contibution? Having Courtney Cox come on stage during the video for Born in the USA. Why? Because Alfonso Ribeiro stole that dance for The fresh Prince of Bellaire and made it the "Carlton" Which made me chuckle.
If your best accomplishment is being clowned by Alfonso Ribeiro, you suck.

Maybe Springsteen can declare his disdain for Corporatism and Fascism by hurling
some of his big sacks of cash at the Capitalist record company execs that "force" him to
sign record deals.
He is to American Folk Music what Arby's is to fine dining.

Springsteen trying to sell himself as some cornpone, boxcar hopping, sharecropping,
"This-Machine-Kills-Fascists", scab-puncher is something that only...well...
...the dumbass American consumer would buy into.

WTF are you talking about? Seriously, the next time I run into somebody who mistakes Bruce Springsteen for a sharecropper will be the first. He's a middle class kid from Jersey who played his ass off for for 10 years before finaly cashing in. That's it.Martyred wrote:Get fucking serious, B.

I'm sure your words will comfort his fake, posturing millionaire ass, as he heats up a can of beans beside the railroad siding with his MoveOn.org slummin' chums tonight.BSmack wrote:

I don't think he's in need of comfort. I also didn't realize there was an income cap on playing folk music. Please do elaborate.Martyred wrote:I'm sure your words will comfort his fake, posturing millionaire ass, as he heats up a can of beans beside the railroad siding with his MoveOn.org slummin' chums tonight.BSmack wrote:
