Would YOU tell a lie that would be that easy to get busted on?
OCMike, first of all, I'm praying for your family. Secondly, politicians tell bald-faced lies all of the time, and do so without fear of consequence. Reflection isn't a posture that the American Public is noted for.

The fact of the matter is this - the "data" they presented was presented as evidence for war. They did so in the same way that an 11th grader patches together a research paper in study hall the period before it's due. It is better, in that mode, to hand something in, rather than nothing at all.

Dave's right,

The CIA should give up covert spy operations and using Pictures from Space as a way to get the proper intel. Google searches and Wikipedia are much better at getting to the truth.

Exactly. Mistakes aren't necessarily deceits.

That's something TVO could also stand to learn since he calls people "liar!" everytime he believes they've mistated anything.

Politicians lie? I mean, no shit, really? :D

Agreed with the research paper analogy, however I don't agree with the assertion that they were making any case they needed to to go to war.

I'm not that big of a fan of conspiracy theories to the point where I think a prez would go to war just to make oil companies and Halliburton rich.

Spin as you may, the presentations they made were indeed presented as 100% accurate. They presented a rationale for war, not the "maybe this is right" scenario that you are claiming for them now. Also, the Yellowcake reference was 100% balderdash. At the time it was going in to the speech, the Bush Administration by and large knew that it had been debunked. Yet, it was kept in the speech...because they knew that many folks would have no problem being lied to.

They weren't mistakes.

It has nothing to do with degree of accuracy.

The majority of the agency knew it was BULLSHIT.

mvscal wrote:Wrong. First, Joe Wilson is moronic assclown who, by his own admission, accomplished absolutely nothing in Niger. His trip was so pointless, he didn't even bother to file a report.

Do you seriously believe that he got to the bottom of this issue by spending a week "drinking sweet mint tea" with government officials? How the fuck was that supposed to work?

"Are you selling uranium to Iraq?"

"Nope"

"Well, thanks for your time. I'd best be going now. Thanks for the tea. That was lovely."

Way to fucking go, 007.
In 1991, President George Bush introduced Joseph Wilson to his war Cabinet, calling the veteran diplomat "a true American hero." By any standard, Wilson deserved such praise. As the senior U.S. diplomat in Iraq during Operation Desert Shield, the massive U.S. military buildup in Saudi Arabia after Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, Wilson was responsible for freeing 150 American hostages seized by the Iraqi dictator. Indeed, he was the last U.S. diplomat to meet with Saddam Hussein, in August 1990, following Saddam's notorious July 25 meeting with U.S. ambassador April Glaspie, who failed to warn Saddam not to invade Kuwait. Wilson advocated a muscular response to Saddam's aggression, and though he sought a diplomatic solution, supported Operation Desert Storm. During his highly decorated 23-year career, Wilson also held the position of political advisor to the commander in chief of the U.S. Armed Forces in Europe and was ambassador to Gabon.

Sorry to be so skeptical of an internet know-it-all, but one of your own actually called him a "true American hero."

Yep, that one. It is refreshing to hear you talk about your own party in those terms.

Yep.
Actually most republicans feel free to criticize the president and GOP when they disagree with them. It is the leftist swine who can't stand the most obvious criticism of their party and it's leaders.

It's also the lefties who are incapable of critcizing their party under seemingly any circumstances.

Or give any credit to Bush under any circumstances. But to be fair, there aren't any lefties or Dems on this board anyway. Just a ton of 'moderate' 'independents' who hate everything about Bush and the GOP and can say nothing bad about the Party of Pelosi.
