Uhh, for the record, dude's full face Arai Quantum helmet didn't do him much good there. Pretty basic advice here: If you ever find yourself doing 175 on a public road.....don't crash. Get it right. You generally won't get a do-over if you get it wrong.

I couldn't disagree more!!

If you think all you have to do is replace a bad organ with a good one like working on a car..YOU ARE WRONG!!!

If someone needs a new liver, lung or heart chances are there other organs are also shot and their chance of survival is low, their chance of viability is low and the cost of medical care is HUGE!! About $300,000 just for the procedure and hospitalization add in the long term care and loss of income and these procedures run close to a Million Dollars.

Now, as cold as it may seem.. If you had a million dollars and you had 1 guy who needs a liver transplant and 10 healthy families (of 4) that need medical care coverage for 10 years and you had to give that money to either the guy that needs the liver transplant or the 40 people needing basic medical care. Who would you give that Million Dollars too?

Recognize that..

A: The success of liver transplant depends largely on your condition going into the surgery. If you are in fairly good condition, your chances for a successful outcome are as high as 90%. Patients who are critically ill have lower chances for a good outcome.

Overall, the chance of living one year after surgery is approximately 75% to 80%. After the first year, patients who consistently take their medication and visit their physician should continue to enjoy the benefits of transplant for a long time.

B: Research showing that having health insurance positively affects the use of health services is clear
and widely accepted—and the case has also been made that having health insurance leads to
improved health and longer lives by means of better access to medical care.
• A conservative estimate based on the full range of studies is that a reduction in mortality of
5-15% could be expected if the uninsured were to gain continuous health coverage.1
• It has been estimated that the number of excess deaths among uninsured adults age 25-
64 is in the range of 18,000 a year.

***********************************************

I have worked in healthcare for over 20 years and am against heart lung and liver transplants being mandatorily paid by insurance companies when there is no mandatory healthcare for everyone.

It is wiser and more cost effective to prevent illness in 40 people than to spend all that money on 1 person with no greater than a 75% chance of survival for 5 years and less than a 50% chance of ever being able to be a working member of society again...

But this has nothing to do with Ben Roesthlisberger...

In most cultures in human history, if you go and harvest/remove organs from a dead body without consent, it's a crime punishable by death.

Yet here you tards are, looking to make it madatory.

Both fucking ponderous and disgusting.

If you so much as touch any of my Loved One's organs without consent, I will kill you. Period.

And nevermind that there's people who are medically ineligible from donating, and there's also people whose religion forbids it.

And as a guy who has logged 6-digits of motorcycle miles...as far as the helmet/no-helmet thing -- don't let anyone or anything in this thread make that decision for you. Darwin will decide on his own.

Or, just listen to Van's point -- how do the professionals do it?

no worries, dins. I doubt anybody'd be standing in line for your liver.

organ donation shouldn't be mandatory, but, payment to the donor families should be considered. We have all these high and mighty assholes saying nevah, it's not ethical. Fukk them. If it were their kid that needed that organ and payment to the donor's family made it possible, they'd be singing a different tune.

I agree with payment to the donors and I would be in favor of giving BIG Business a tax break for helping to pay for these HUGE COST- Moderate Success-SAD SAD Medical procedures...

It's just when it comes to my insurance dollars..I want them to be used wisely... and spending millions to treat a low success medical mess while failing to help prevent long term medical problems in healthy individuals is just DUMB!!

I wonder who is paying for Rowsthliberger's new face???

see that, van. that's what happens when you get in an accident while wearing a very good full face helmet....and leathers.....and atleast one motorcycle boot.....and a sneaker......and a yamaha shirt that looks surprisingly like a subway sammich still in it's wrapper.

Too bad dude is for the most part, no longer in his wrapper.

did all of his body parts seen here land there, or did somebody
have the gruesome task of putting all the parts they could find
together? is his foot still in his shoe?

what the fuck is that on his chest??!

cuz that's just weird that all his body parts landed there, like that.
and look at the tire mark on the road. how many times do you
have to flip over and be run over to end up jullienned like that?
i mean, look at his head. he must have been dragged hella long
to do that to his skull, right? or did his skull just disintegrate, and
that's what was left? where's the rest of the blood? was he hit,
or did he just lose control?
on a short leash, apparently.

Quit obsessing over such inane minutiae and just wear a full face helmet, 'kay?

Oh, and don't attempt 176 mph on a public road. You just might be as lacking in talent and/or luck as that poor unfortunate dumbass, so don't risk it.

If you gotta do it, do it at the track.

the mark across the road isn't a tire mark. Looks more like the snail marks this unfortunate bastard left as he, or should I say the largest remaining chunk of him, was dragged across the road to be rendevoused with his other pieces. As for the thing on him chest, I'm gonna go with liver. I am gonna guess that his dome got that way from blunt trauma at a very high speed. Notice how his formerly fullfaced helmet appears to be a 3/4 helmet now.

What van said. Don't try this at home kids. Most highway guard rails are designed to do two things, keep cars on the road and fillet motorcyclists.
