My friend told me he has cable TV & cable net service. Both from the same, Cox.
He told me the he disconnected the TV portion, and runs something thru the computer to the TV and still gets cable TV channels for free, just paying for the internet cable.
Is he lying to me? How would he be able to do this?
Lots of times, cable companies do not actually disconnect the overall service for a while after you discontinue their service. I've had this happen in other places. He probably just gets the very basic (definately not digital) cable.
Once he downgrades TV service, they will send a truck out to put a trap on his line at the pole that will only allow the data frequency through. He should enjoy while he can :D
My neighbor, when I lived in Dallas, did this. He had high speed internet and paid only for that but he had basic cable throughout his house. About 40 channels including local channels, ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS, etc.
If he is getting cable signal it's because they have'nt put an HSI trap on his line at the tap yet. The trap filters everything out but channel 85 which is what the internet signal is sent on. I do installs for cox here in socal and he can't get any other channels if that filter is on.
