Brees, Culpepper, Brooks, McNair
Brees, Culpepper, Brooks, McNair
Who's going to have the best season and why?
Prior to last season, I said it wouldn't suprise me to see Miami as one of the top offensive units in the league. While 14 isn't exactly setting the world on fire, it's a huge leap from 2004's 29 ... and that was accomplished with guys named Gus and A.J.
Miami is a team on the rise in the AFC East. With a healthy Culpepper, look for the upward trend to continue, and I think you'll see Chris Chambers have a breakout season.
Obviously, Culpepper's health is a question mark, but after this it's a veritable crapshoot. I'd really like to give Brooks the nod (especially with Moss and Jordan), but I don't see much difference in what he's left behind in New Orleans and what he's inheriting in Oakland.
McNair might be another sexy pick; however, this isn't the same player that won the MVP award. While he offers Baltimore the most stability they've had in years at QB, will it be enough? That said, I could definitely see McNair's team having the best success over the long haul.
Which brings us to Brees.
I want to like him, as well, but I just can't bring myself to move him up the ladder. One thing's for certain, removing the game's best RB/TE combo (over the past two years) from the equation will give us a much better read on Brees.
Like McNair, I think he can enjoy success within the team framework with McAllister/Bush/Bennett and Horn/Stallworth; however, it will be interesting to see what transpires when the lumbering giant is no longer roaming the middle as a safety valve.
With that OL ... he's going to miss it, too.
What say you?

I think Culpepper is going to have a Pro Bowl caliber season this year. He still has one of the strongest arms in the League. He has trimmed down and his defense is going to give him some good field position and create turnovers for his offense.
McNair will have a solid season. All he has to do his move the chains and score 20 points a game and that team will win 10 games. Their defense is still their bread and butter and as long as McNair doesnt try to do too much, he will be fine. He isnt the player he once was and I have to believe that he misses 2-3 games w/ an injury, thus hurting the Ravens playoff chances.
Brees is going to struggle in NO b/c their defense sucks and he has only one good wideout, a shitty line, a gimp for a RB and a rookie for a RB. Plus, who knows how well his arm is going to be after having shoulder surgery?
Brooks is going to put up some sick stats b/c he has Moss and Porter, but they wont be any better than 6-10 b/c he makes too many mistakes and their defense sucks more caack than Diego at Chucky Cheese.

Culpepper didn't impress me before he got hurt. His last two years in Minnesota have sucked. Without Moss he is nothing. Chambers is no Moss.....
McNair has 1-2 decent seasons in him. Reuinited with Mason, and also having Heap will be nice. I think he will be better then the other 3. Brees would be my choice but not sure how he is looking injury wise.....

Alot of dumb motherfucking takes in this bitch already.......
All homerism aside, its going to be Aaron Brooks-and the number one reason for it: Art Shell.
Out of all the teams 'offered' for this discussion, i'd rank our O-line in the top 2-especially now that Shell has moved everbody back to thier 'natural' positions and is showing them personally how to block well.
He also has a firmer grasp than most do about what it takes to win championships and be successful......
Shell has made it clear that he will be counting on Brooks to make minimal mistakes with the ball when he actually drops back to pass-basically, he wont be putting Brooks in a position to lose games for us-sorta reminiscent of the Trent Dilfer Raven QBing.
It will prove itself to be a perfect situation for Brooks.
Also, remember that out of ALL the QB's named, Brooks is easily the best scrambler and arguably has the best arm out of the group. He also has the big, badass TE that only 1 other QB in this discussion has (McNair) and the best WR foursome in the NFL (Moss, Porter, Curry, Gabriel) not to mention Jordan-who can catch as well.
Gotta agree with Neely on Culpepper-dude sucked cock for last year and was ONLY deece because of Moss. He'll be mediocre for the rest of his career.
Cicero, do you ever get sick of being useless fucking cunt ?

The Raiders have a ton of fucking talent everywhere-but you need a tough fucking leader to steer the ship right, i.e. Rich Gannon leading them to 3 straight AFC west titles and a Super Bowl appearance.Art Shell wrote:Look at the team that won the Super Bowl. Pittsburgh and Seattle played in the Super Bowl. What did they do? They run the football tough. They strike with play-action passes down the field. They play tough defense. And what's different from then - from back when we played and back when I coached - up until now?
Those things are consistent: stop the run, run the football and strike deep. That's what I believe in.
Those things work. I know they work. I've been involved in it. I know how to win. I know how to lead. I expect that we will have the kind of success that this organization deserves. We can't settle for anything less. And that's my job, to come in here and show the way.
It's how you work. It's how you practice. And it starts in the offseason.

Without Moss, and the ability to 'streetball' broken plays to Moss (He WILL NEVER run the same again) Culpepper is absolute shit. Period.

Link?
He sure as fuck couldnt do it with the talent he had in Minny.
Culpepper is in Miami now, remember?Moss on the other hand has to work with a spastic, microcephalic pinhead who can't read a playbook or a defense.
Funny, but didnt a fucking 40 year old gimp armed Brad Johnson almost take that same team to the playoffs after they were left for dead when Culpepper went down?
Amazing what reading the playbook and following the actual 'plays' in it will do for you.

And his first year without Moss......
2005 MIN 7 139 216 64.4 1564 7.2 6 68 12 72.0
7 Games---1564 yards for an average of 223 Yards per game, 6 TD's and 12 Picks with a rating of 72. You can have him. As a matter of fact if he was so great why would a team let him go? Chambers isn't in Mosses stratosphere.......

I'll go with Culpepper because I love what Saban has done in Miami. Granted they are thin on the OL but they were just as thin last year. also he'll have Ronnie Brown to give the ball to.
As far as Brooks goes my biggest problem with him has always been his lack of decision making. I've watched him kill many a Saint drive with his brainfarts. Yeah hes athletic but so was Akili Smith and where is he now? I am confident that by week 7 Andrew Walter will be our starting QB.

Do you know nothing of the greatness that is 90 year old Hall of Famer Brad Johnson?
I mean, how could you NOT trade a 'in his prime' 29 year old with a shredded knee who put up such incredible numbers over the course of a season when his target 80% of the time was one of the greatest WR's to ever play the game for a career journeyman who has trouble throwing a ball 45 yards and collects Social Security checks weekly?
Even a blind squirrel finds a fucking nut occassionaly (See Humphries, Stan)
Culpepper sucks. End of discussion.

Leave it to Orc to even put Brees in a category with these other 3. I just shook my head when I saw it. Orc has been wanting to like Brees for years now. It's not easy admitting Brees is his daddy. What can I say, we all have our stubborn streaks.

Yeah I predict Brooks will be doing his best Jay Schroder impersonation.
I'm not ready to write Culpepper off yet, Brooks yes Cpep no. All one has to remember is Mike Tice was the HC during his abortion of a season last year. I think he'll bounch back.
McNair I think will play well too as long as he can stay healthy.
Brees is the biggest question mark, although I think he'll do well if he's near 100%. He has poise in the pocket that Aaron Brooks can only dream about.
Maybe the best take was JT's when he hit the nail on the head with
I am confident that by week 7 Andrew Walter will be our starting QB.
Butkus didn't wear an earring.
Which QB is going to have the best season, and why ...... is the question.
Right or wrong, a QB is ultimately judged by the bottom lines of wins and losses, and specifically, does he help his team get over the hump in post-season play.
Looking at the teams, Miami stands out as the one who's stock is on the rise. They won their final 6 games under a bright young coach who has apparently got the players buying in to what he's selling. For that reason, Culpepper is the knee-jerk answer to orc's question. There are questions surrounding 'pepper though. Injury and ability is in question at this point in time. He sucked last year in his first season without the benefit of R. Moss. Until he shows what he can do, I hesitate to put him at the top of the list.
I put S. McNair at the top of the list because he is a proven commodity. Baltimore looks like a good fit for him, IMO. He's steady, he's got a good defense to help him out, and I think he'll help the Ravens notch more than the 6 wins they had last year. I'm a 'fan' of McNair's play. I like his chances to do well in Purple.
I'd put Brooks and Culpepper in a tie at #2. It's conceivable that either guy could put up pretty BIG numbers, however I frankly look for both Miami and Oakland to put a heavy emphasis on running the football. I like Brooks' mobility and I like his arm. I do NOT feel comfortable with his 'intangibles' ....... and hope Art is able to keep him on a short leash. If Art does not, Brooks may drop to #4 in this discussion because he has been replaced as Raider starting QB. Could happen.
Brees is not going to a good situation, IMO, and coming off of a wing injury, I think he brings up the rear in this discussion. If the 'Aints can build more around him, and he can settle in to the job in N.O. like he did in SD, then yeah, perhaps next season he'll look like the Drew that we came to know the past 2 yrs as a Blot.
Final analysis:
McNair
Brooks - Culpepper tie
Brees

The point (that you missed, btw) was circumstance has made these four quarterbacks very much alike heading into the season. All four are with new teams, and each faces huge questions concerning the future.
If casting him in with the broken-down and casted-off makes him my Daddy, then I guess I'll need his address for that belated Father's Day card.
No, you spun it Sally. There are other QB's in new situations with "questions" you failed to put on your list. I have zero questions about how Brees will fare in the future. And yet, you put him on this short list with Aaron Brooks.
I don't really care much about your list since you've been wrong about Drew (your daddy) all along.

Dilfer in SF.
Fiedler in TB.
Harrington in Mia.
Kitna in Det.
Ramsey in NY .... Jets.
Are you thinking of someone else ... ?
That's who I see.
They're all gonna suck.
That's that.
Am I mistaken, or is the NFL's 6th most prolific passer from last season still unsigned ... ?
There is 1 HOFer, 2 talented QBs, and quit trolling James in the 4th spot.
I'll go with the HOFer as much as I hate Baltimore.
Culpepper to Chambers is gonna be fun to watch.
Brees just needs to hand the ball to Reggie and he'll be fine.
quit trolling James will be... um........I'm trying to think of something positive...um.....will always be remembered as #7's cuz. <That's positive, right?
So, I agree with Pop on McNair but disagree on quit trolling James. All Brees has to do is get the ball to Reggie. quit trolling James has to learn a new position...quarterback.
