In 1975, during the recording of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" album, Barrett showed up unannounced at the studio -- ironically, during the recording of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," a song about him. He had become overweight and shaved his eyebrows; the other members didn't recognize him at first.

"Wish You Were Here" was dedicated to Barrett.

Nor did he do much after that.

Rack him for managing 32 years of painting and gardening though.

Very true. They could have easily cut him off at the knees financialy. But to a man they have ensured that the man responsible for jump starting their careers was taken care of, even as he asked (for the sake of his own sanity) that they stay away.

It's an impossible question to answer. Although, since David Gilmour was the one who taught Syd how to play slide guitar, I would have to guess that the spacy slide guitar effects that were the hallmark of tracks like "Echoes" and "A Saucerful of Secrets" would have been present in some form.

Also, one would have to ask wether Gilmour would have been involved in any way shape or form. There was a very brief period where Gilmour and Barrett were simultaneously members of Pink Floyd. And since Gilmour was a friend of Barrett's before Pink Floyd, it is reasonable to assume that he might well have been invited into the group anyway.

That being said, it would have been quite different indeed. But I doubt it would have much sounded like the Cure. But you can be sure it would have included plenty of this...

Not sure if Syd ever did. I thought Dave was always a "member of the band".

Lastly, I just think Syd and that dude from Cure looked about as wigged out as each other.

Robyn Hitchcock is Sydish, so probably a combo of him and the Floyd sound we know and love.

Echoes was written 3 years after Syd left. That was all Gilmour. But, a primary reason for the hiring of Gilmour was that his style of playing was (in 1968 at least) nearly identical to Barrett's.

Lastly, I just think Syd and that dude from Cure looked about as wigged out as each other.

Robyn Hitchcock is Sydish, so probably a combo of him and the Floyd sound we know and love.

I need to listen to some Robyn Hitchcock. Everybody says he was a huge PF and Syd Barrett fan. I'll have to see if I can see the influcences someday.
