Liverpool Open....Call it

unlike some posters in the golf forum, I'm not one to keep repeating the same name over and over (s'up Tiger, B-Smack)

I like the Euros chances here......

This is a course that hasn't been played in The Open for a long while. I'm hoping Mickelson will rebound, but this is the major that will always elude him in my opinion.

My pick is Goosen.

Michelle Wie.

Wait, how hot is it over there?

Never mind. I'll go with The Mick and give you the field.

Of course, I reserve the right to change my pick Sunday evening.

Pay attention much? Ask Dins if I picked Tiger the last time out.

I'm going with Lefty this week. Just because.

I'm pretty sure you went with Olgilvy.

My unofficial pick is Tiger...to finish 3rd behind Peter Jacobsen and Ben Crane, of course.

Although I'd also love to see Nick Faldo take another Open, since he's from my "other hometown."

He's grouped with Tiger to start the tourney. Should be a fun group.

I'd like to have that pick, but I just don't see it happening. His best chance to win The Open was a couple of years ago and he lost the lead on the final 2 holes.

Welcome, Brother BiSC.

But I must correct you -- that was your first unofficial post.

These Major Championship pick'em threads are a little different from what you're used to...you don't have to make your official pick until monday morning...or monday evening/tuesday morning, if that works better for you.

It seems to produce a higher winning percentage when we do it that way.

Because...why?

All together now, class....

"3 Wood"

That's that thing you hit off the tee when the fairway is a little too short for driver, right?

Me and my fairway woods got a divorce a while back, due to irreconcilable differences -- it thought my ball belonged in the trees, and I didn't, and we just can't seem to see eye-to-eye on the issue.

But, we've had a long history together, so we agreed to meet on nuetral groud -- the teebox. For some reason, our disagreement really seems to come to the forefront when we try to get together on grass, though.

My driver is still basking in the glow of being the "victorious other woman."

The cheapy worked for me for a while after my other one got ripped off, but it just didn't have what I needed...a man like me needs something more than a mere regular shaft.

The Taylor Made has been going deep for me lately.

I never really seem to ever have a falling out with my SW(bread and butter short club)(that's right...ENVY ME, FRISCO!). That's a good thing, too...the way I've been touring the trees lately, wedge play is the only thing keeping my scores from being outright comical. I'm the master of making a JAW-DROPPING, PGA-Guy-is-jealous-of-me up and down...to save triple-bogey.

But, things are looking like I'll be able to play a lot more in the coming weeks/days, which oddly enough, seems to make it easier to find a green-in-reg on an occasion. When I'm hitting greens, I almost feel like I've played the game before, and almost feel like I know what I'm doing...almost.

After scoring 3 pars 3 bogeys and 3 doubles in 9 holes w/o a single green in reg yesterday, I think I know where you're comming from.

A couple of my golf buds are in the beginning stages of incorporating "coon" into their golf vernacular.

And they don't even know why, save for chuckling when I say it.

Goose ain't a bad (unofficial) pick.

Rarely is he out of contention at the Majors.

I'm still leaning towards Tiger, who is due, but this one is hard to come up with a clear-cut favorite.

On the one hand, the freaking garthoks of the game like Tiger and Phil and Veej are so good, that their style of play tends to do well everywhere. I realize some analysts are saying that Phil's "high-baller" style might not lend itself well to Liverpool...but WTF? Highballers aren't suppose to do well at Augusta, either, right? I don't care what "style" you ply -- when you're that freaking accurate with short-irons, you're going to make some birds.

Traditionally, when a course is in "major-shape,_ certain guys "low ballers" always find their name up there, guys like Jose Maria BlowACumBubble. Jespar seems to like this style of play.

Let's not forget that Monty has had some decent sucess when it comes to British-style golf(except when The Open rolls around, anyway).

If he wasn't old and out 0of practice, I'd say we shouldn't rule Faldo out...it's been a while, but remember how this guy absolutelky dominated British. Euro golf for years and years. Plus, they're playing in England rather than Scotland or Ireland, which means the grass actually grows and there shouldn't be gale-force winds the whole time...and Nick is quite familiar with all of the bigtime courses in England ...plus he's my kinda-sorta homey, so there's that. His mother lives right up the street from my folks, in Nick's hometown(and Dins' two older sisters' birthplace).

But thinking about it...England is in the midst of an all-time record breaking heat wave. To me, this might tip the scales in favor of an American, or possibly a Spaniard(sup Serg), who are theoretically more used to playing in extreme heat....and also thinking about it, the heat rarely seems to bother Goose. But it just seems from my casual(without checking any stats) recollection that when it's very hot, the more in-shape guys seem to fare a little better...I think.

So, after all of that...it's still a crapshoot.

I'll go with Tiger...unofficially.

Heck, it's supposed to be superhot here this weekend, so I might end up watching quite a bit of golf this weekend....but then again, it's easy to get out on the nice, cheap munis when it gets really hot, so there's that, and this post was interrupted by Dins golf buddy calling and asking about golfing this weekend(and maybe this evening), so...

So, who did you guys pick?

Although, Ben Crane wasn't too far out, either. QQMF. Grew up in Beaverton...Tiger's best-paying job is in Beaverton(where he has an office even, I believe)....RACK the Beaverton connection.

OK, so far, I've got:

Felix...started the thread, of course he nailed it -- Tiger

Muchobulls...solid, solid Golf Forum guy. Naturally, he picked -- Tiger

Cicero. He may have his detractors, but he's money this weekend -- Tiger

IndyFrisco, always the Wise One -- Tiger...after he recanted his pick of some Josh dude I'd never heard of

BSmack -- Yeah, like you needed to ask. Dude's a broken record on this stuff

buckeye...what an epic inaugural Major Pick 'Em -- Had him down for DiMarco...fucker almost nailed it.

OK, just kidding....buckeye had Tiger

Qbert....Qbert....where would we be without Qbert?

I'm guessing I'd probably still be in the Greater Portland Area....but, the man did have Tiger. Even called his margin-of-victory, which he choked. Better luck next time, Qberto.

Ken brags about hitting his driver two-hundred-and-forty-yards. I figured if I spelled it out and hyphenated it, it might look a little longer. Kinda like shaving one's junk and stuff. But, give him his props...he picked Tiger.

Raaaadiofan. Kind of a stranger in these parts. Not sure why, since he's now like 1-for-1 in these badboys...had him down for Tiger.

Dinsdale. Oh well...I had him down for Ben Crane. Close, but no cigar. Better luck next time, dork.

If there's anybody else who hasn't got their picks in for the Open Pick 'Em yet, it's crucial that you have your official picks in by the end of thew week, or late August at the latest.

Props to all who played. You guys are pretty good at this stuff.
