That's one reason the british is my least favorite major. Guess I'm just not a traditionalist or sumthin'. I prefer the verdant fairways and greens of the courses stateside. I also prefer to watch golf in which players stick a shot on the green from 170 out rather than play a low shot under the wind to 140 and let it roll to the green. Just not my idea of golf. Yeah, yeah... the birthplace of golf and all... I get that. I just don't have to enjoy it.

I was playing a course down in South Carolina a month or so ago. Play it every year when I'm down there and is usually in pretty good shape. This year, the entire place was brown... well, except for the greens which were spraypainted. Yes, painted green. The course, save the tall grass, links style, etc, appeared JUST like Royal Liverpool. Not my idea of golf. After the round, I'm in the pro shop and find out via conversation w/the guy behind the counter that they are closing the course the following day for the summer for renovations. They were letting the turf die for easier renovations. And, here, I was charged full price for a course they let go.

And, seer... I got it.
