Yesterday was really my first chance to see Weaver. The announcing team hit on the whole idea that most of Weaver's wins were against below .500 and non-contending teams. His stats are still impressive regardless. He looks like a more mature and more polished version of his brother. Jeff never looked that good with his early years in Detroit. He had great stuff and had a gamer's mentality but he was a bit of a hot head and went through hot and cold stretches. Jered looks like he'll be a very good pitcher in this league...he did well in wiggling out of some of the jams yesterday but left the game not on hook for the win or the loss.

If I was compare the three top rookie starters...Liriano is overpowering and dominant, Verlander is gritty and tough and Weaver is crafty and deceptive. All three are very good but ultimately, Liriano is the best rookie pitcher right now. Papelbon had two perfect innings in relief yesterday...his ERA is creeping closer to the half-run mark. Jones tied Papelbon for the league lead in saves but continues to escape by the skin of his teeth. Papelbon's 29 saves look more effortless than Jones' 29.

Mother. Fucker.

Hope we see you faggots in the playoffs-payback is a bitch.

Shoalz, nice breakdown but Weaver just didnt have his shit flowing and it definitely seemed like he had to rely more on the "crafty, deceptive" stuff more than usual. He's a hell of a pitcher, nonetheless-and im very happy to have him on my team.

....
I remember the Sox vs. Angels in the 86 playoffs...

That was fucking sad...

I mean the Red Sox have been toasted before and had their hearts ripped out through their throats but anytime I think of the Angels vs. Red Sox in the playoffs all I can think about is how much it "KILLED" Donnie Moore.

That was one of the sadder days in baseball!!

May Donnie rest in Peace!!

I don't want to see another Angels - Red Sox Series in the post season...It's Bad Karma!!

I listened to the espn radio coverage of this game and they claimed that Sheilds has been one of the premier late inning set up men over the course of the last year and that he rarely comes unglued. Didn't hear much to concur with their praise of him out of this game, with the sox putting a string of hits together along with a wild pitch.

It happens to every pitcher eventually. It'll happen to Paplebon too. Yep. Guaranteed that some day, The Boston Globe will refer to him as "Papleblown". My favorite scenario would be for A-Rod to go yard off him in the 9th in a one game playoff at the end of this season. Just imagine what that would do to Sox Nation pride.

T, it was a very tough outing for Shields-and very uncharacteristic of him.

Make no mistake though, Weaver wasnt on point like i've seen him in just about every other start this season. Then again, his average stuff is in the upper echelon of MLB pitchers, so I cant complain much.

I would've loved to have seen him become the first pitcher in 25 years to accomplish that feat.......it would've made for a great thread or 2 from me.

In his defense, I don't think he's healthy and I didn't realize that he's had arm problems in the past. He's a great pitcher but it would be a shame if he started dealing with nagging injuries. That game in the Metrodome was the real Liriano and the Tigers had to get a gutty performance out of Miner then to steal a win in extra innings.

How'd that R.O.Y. thing work out?
