Is this Fran's last year with ATM...

Post by Left Seater »

if he doesn't win 9 games? Dude has had plenty of time to get his system in place and get his recruits in house. However, he continues to fall further and further behind TX and OU in the south division.

The Aggies schedule is a joke this season and they should be 9-0 going into the last three games of the season. Not sure how those last three will go, but they could lose all three.

So my question is this: is Fran done if they lose at home to Taco Tech on 9/30? A loss there would likely have them finishing no better than 8-4. Does that get Fran another year? That would be only 7 wins against D1-A schools. That would also mean only 2 or 3 wins against top 50 teams (depending on what Kansas does this season).

Is that really enough to keep Fran's job? My wife thinks he needs to go if the Ags go any less than 10-2. Thoughts?

8 wins and he keeps his job. If not, Jeff Bowden is a great candidate to take his place.

8 wins puts him at 4th in the Big XII south. That keeps his job? For ATM's sake, I hope not.

I’ve been saying all along that there is no reason, minus the taco tech game, we should not be 9-0 going into the OU/NU/t.u. last month of the season. If we lose to tech, we will for sure lose the last 3 and be at best 8-4. Fran will likely be fired BEFORE the bowl game should that happen in order for the A&M HC job to be “the story” or “a story” during the bowl season. Look for a particular coach to be rumored to be next in line at A&M while denying it because his team is in a good bowl.

9-3 will probably not allow Fran to keep his job. I am definitely leaning (or homering) to the side that we will be 11-1 and second in the XII South to OU and will be in the Holiday Bowl or Cotton Bowl (depending on how the North does) where we will get blown out by a PAC 10 team. That, and only that, will allow Fran to stick around one more year. I really want Kubiak as our coach, but with his new NFL gig, we might have to wait a couple years before he is run out of Houston. Of course, if that happens, he might not look so appealing.

I am really pulling for A$M to have a great year this year. They won't beat Texas but if they can have a great year fran will keep his job and that is the most important thing. The aggies need to keep fran forever.

I know that homering can really pull the wool over many a fan's eyes but let's be serious. A&M 11-1?? That's not homering that is pure insanity. At best 8-4. I can see the ags losing to Texas, ou, Nebraska, Tech and either Okie State or Baylor. I think 7-5 is more of an accurate prediction with a trip to Shreveport to play an SEC alsoran.

I say keep Fran. :P

Oh, and with 12 scholarship seniors, only 3 or 4 who will be starting, I'd say Fran has 2 years left. Schedule is definitely built though for a good year this year.

I was discussing this with a neighbor last week. Fran best years in his previous stops have been with the previous coaching staffs players. This is Fran's 4th season and first where the majority of players will be his recruits.

Granted he is trying to recruit in the same division with Stoops and Brown, but the Aggie classes haven't been great by any means. I guess he could point to the lack of Srs on this team, but the flip side of that is the remainder are all players he brought in.

All it takes is a good year or two and you can turn the tides in recruiting. Fran hasn't had top 5 classes, but he's had a top 10 or two early on. He's definitely been a dissapointment in my book, but I think I'm willing to give him this year and if he wins at least 9, I'd give him next year too. Anything less than 9-3 and I think his ass needs to be on the next bus outa town.

why should A&M be 9-0 after 9 games????

i'll give 3-1 odds that they have atleast 1 loss, possibly 2-3 in the first 9 games. why would you think they can beat tech?

ok, i'll give 5/1, maybe this will get a sucker aTm fan to bite.

ok, a stretch with osu, but baylor, tech,mu could very easily beat atm.

i deal with reality, MU will be lucky to win 8 games, 7 is where i have then pegged, and thats if they win a 50/50 game.

don't get me wrong, i have no problems with atm and their program, but they are nowhere near a contender for the south, they couldnt win the north.

i don't know what to think about ATM. i can't believe they are THAT bad (multiple TD loss to ISU at Kyle) and that Fran is all of sudden a bad coach......but these things are happening.

but, the schedule sets up for W's if they can figure out how to win em. i don't relish OU going into Kyle for ATM's "prove we are legit" game. if the Ags are a 1 loss team or undefeated the 12th man will be foaming at the mouth.

i think Fran wins 9 games. saves his job and the Aggies are either the most overrated 9 win team in a BCS conference OR one of the most improved teams in D-1 that finally put all the pieces together (talent).....and no one will know which it is.

i'm also a little leary of the impossible hyperbole surrounding QB McGee at the ATM sites. the kid appears to be a player......but i seem to remember the first verse of this with McNeal 3-4 years ago.

OSU will be in the second year of their new systems and have a lot of starters back on offense. If Reid can stay healthy they won't be a pushover(not that good but no pushover). I see them going 6-6.

With ATM's lame noncon sched anything less than 8-4 definitely gets Fran fired. If they don't beat one team that is worth a dang-Texas, OU, Tech, or Neb he may still get canned. Only beating the mediocre teams isn't enough if you're a fourth-year HC at ATM.

My prediction is that ATM loses one they should win but wins one against one of the aforementioned teams, 8-4. Stays or goes is 50/50

I still can't believe how little Fran has done at ATM, I think the karma from screwing his Bama players is coming back on him.

I'd say you got it pegged.

As for McGee, one thing you hear about him that you did not hear about Reggie is that he is a leader. Reggie never wanted to be a leader. He told Fran that. Reggie always said leadership was the coach's responsibility.

McGee gets in faces. He pisses people off, but he gets the most out of them. His sideline demeanor is that of Peyton Manning. On the field, he can run and he's a tough muthafucka. I have serious doubts about his passing abilities though. That's where I think we may get hurt. If we get down early and big, it will be really hard for this team to claw their way back.

Anyhow, as I said before, this team is built for next year. If Fran does get fired after this year, whoever comes in next year will have instant success.

I think this SHOULD be his last year if he doesn't win nine games. Eight victories will give him another year though.

The tipping point won't be reached unless the Aggies don't go Bowling this year.

There is a reason why Mike Gundy has been fired from every job he ever had.
I think you're showing your OU-bias a bit here. OSU won't be bad, won't make a bowl, but not flat-out bad. With their losses on defense and their new Tech-style offense in it's infancy I don't see big things coming from Baylor this year. If OSU stays behind them Gundy is in serious trouble.

So you aren't typical OU/OSU message-board guy? Most love nothing more than seeing the other humiliated. I'm sure the OSU boards are blowing up today.

OK so you aren't biased hater-guy, but I still disagree about them just flat-out sucking this season. Like I said I think they'll be a .500 team, they may well lose to a Baylor but I see them upsetting one of the "name" teams. It is just a matter of which one.
