Boston - WTF?

Post by Mikey »

So, late last week we left record breaking temps in LoCal to come out here to the Old World, visiting the grandkids in northern NJ and to see some colleges. It was pretty hot in NJ over the weekend, but today we drove up here to the Summerfield Inn in Waltham and I find out it's supposed to reach triple digits in Boston tomorrow, with the heat index pushing 110. Must have been close to that today (is there anything in Waltham besides....nothing?).

Let me tell all of you Left Coast pussies. It was 112 at my house a week ago last Friday. But this here is NOT A DRY HEAT. I'm supposed to go on a walking tour of Harvard tomorrow? That 112 was comfortable compared to this. I always wanted a chance to Pahk my cah in da Hahvahd Yahd, but damn this is ridiculous. I may spend the day sitting in front of the AC in my hotel cruising pron while the rest of the family visits the world of higher edumacation.

Nope. It's just an upper income bedroom community of boston.

and the weather you're getting there made its way across from here, it's just humid-er. ;)

We're just visiting the g-kids. They're only 3 and 5 years old, not quite college age yet. It's my daughter who will be a senior next year, and we want her to get an idea of what's out there. She could possibly get into some of these schools, but the price tag at UC San Diego is looking better and better right now. $40K+ per year? I don't think so.

Yeah I had a feeling we brought the heat with us.

There's a bunch of hotels and a lot of high tech businesses here, but unless I was looking in the wrong place not too much food. The clientele at Friendly's was definitely not of the upper income bracket.

Waltham, located in eastern Massachusetts, is a western suburb of Boston. Founded in 1636, incorporated into a town in 1738 and then into a city in 1884, Waltham is now a diverse community with various opportunities for living, education, work, and leisure.

Historically Waltham is probably best known as the home of the Waltham Watch Factory, a pioneer company of the Industrial Revolution.

Today the city is home to a wide variety of thriving businesses, restaurants, and two major institutions of higher learning, Bentley College and Brandeis University.

Waltham has something for everyone.

yeah Friendly's is like Dennys out here.

You really need to go into the city to get some good food, but getting around you'd need a guide.

Most of those cities around waltham - belmont, Arlington, Newton, watertown) Not much there but homes and small strip malls, unless you are a local or know one it'd be tough to find good eats.

Might be some good Pizza joints down in the Newton area. That's a big college student area.

It's almost midnight here and it feels about like that now. OK, maybe it's 10 degrees cooler.

No offense to 88 and his lusting over scantily clad hotties, but as a Wisconsin native, this shit fucking sucks ass, Mikey, especially up north.

The good news is that you're on vacation, and the oven that we call "outside" should be turned off in California first, at least theoretically.

OUMO, Skully, War Stoops, KatMode and a few other trolls in here should be about post-well-done, by the time that happens, with a few more weeks to go, to get us all extra-crispy.

Fuck, I hate this weather

As it happens, Mikey, I was just back there Thursday through Sunday for a fraternity convention (Phi Kappa Sigma--by the way, if the_ouskull's reading this, where the hell were you, brah? There was an adult beverage with your name on it.) Rode the T in from Logan to State, changed for Downtown Crossing, and the platforms were sweltering...at 6:30 or 7 in the friggin' morning. Made the mistake of running up the steps to Washington Street, lugging the bags. DA HORRAH. Damn near died. Had to wait for my room, so I checked my gear at the concierge and limped to the Borders a few blocks down to get under some A/C and get rid of my headache. Finally got a room about 1, got situated and cooled off. At some point ran into the alum who oversees the New England chapters, a UNH grad, and I go "you know, I was hoping it'd be just a little bit cooler and crisper up here than it was in Riverside". First words out of his mouth were, and I quote, "Oh, God, no."

It improved a little bit from there, especially after the thunderstorm Friday night, but ultimately, my grand tour of Da Hub is going to have to wait for sometime cooler.

I was in Maine for a wedding over the weekend and except for the fucking downpour Friday night it was beautiful. Camped on cliffs overlooking the ocean Monday night after eating a 2 lb lobster from a roadside shack...rack me.

Got off the plane in Philly on Tuesday and I almost fainted. Fucking 100 degrees with 70% humidity. Couldn't even walk home from the train station without losing 10 lbs of sweat.

On the upside, I'm a bachelor for 3 weeks, so I got that going for me, which is good. Picked up a coupla sixers on the way home from work and got the Cards on the TV tonight, I plan on sitting in my boxers in front of the AC vent, it reminds me of that dude from NC who was a Braves fan and picked up skanks at the Scotchman, but I can't remember his name now. Rack him anyways.

I have no idea why I have these still...at one time about 5 years ago, I was going to compile a "greatest hits" thread or something...

Anyhoo, not too long ago, in the depths of an old storage drive, I came across this:

Steve Sax wrote:"Topic: some animal rights activists came by my bachelor pad last night.....
It was about 7:30 pm Wallace Time. I'm sitting in my chair watching the Braves game on my 60 inch screen, eating my dinner. Doesn't matter if it's 5:30 or 7:30 when you eat dinner- some spamming sonofabitch will always stick his nose in your grill to get you to buy a new washcloth or some bullsh*t. I was eating my special Monday night concotion-some baked beans mixed with beanie weanies and chopped- up onions and a little hot sauce. I'd thrown some of my badass, homegrown tomatoes on my stove and had some rolls too. With a Miller high life sitting on the table beside me and the AC blaring at my back and Bernard Gilkey at the plate, I was relaxing nicely until I looked out my screen door and saw two dressed-up assmunches coming up my fukking walkway. A man and a women-both a little too dressed up to be friends of mine who were coming over for a game of horseshoes in the backyard. So I knew right then that they were spammers-trying to see me a new doorknob or something. Of course I laughed when they set off the sensor of my fake frogs, who croaked and scared the b*tch a little. Assholes knocked on my crib as if they didn't see me sitting thereeating my Roofer Supper. I didn't feel like getting off my ass to open the door, plus the broad had what looked like a hint of cleavage, so I said, "come on in". They introduced themselves as being on the board of Raleigh's Department of Animal Rights of some fukkin bullsh*t name. After trying to kiss up to me the dude went off about the two chicken houses behind my crib. This cokksukker was actually trying to tell me to free the chickens, and the broad was sitting on my couch trying to give me a puppy dog look and make me feel guilty about whacking chickens. If the puppy dog look didn't work when Pammy wanted me to buy her a $3.00 dessert at Denny's, then how the fukk would it would for this phoney b*tch?? I told them straight up- "Look, if I just open those chicken houses and let the little fukkers run around, they'd end up running out in the street or flying around and getting fukked up by some dog or fight each other to death. They wouldn't know what to do. " I even told them, "God put certain animals on this Earth to go with beer- chicken wings prove that." Plus, part of my motherfukkin income in staked in those clucking bastards. I simply own the property that they are on and cultivate the feathery, skinny-legged fukks. I have a distributer who buys them off me, takes them to the plant, lops off their domes and defeathers them. I get a percentage of the gross or whatever you call it. I also sell the eggs but I keep alot of them for myself, I explained to the two broccli worshippers.(LOL) Thanks to those chickens, I can fry up a little something sunny side up to go with my bacon. They were trying to tell me that having chicken in those coops were an abomination on society, then they started reeling off some scripted stats about animals in danger. At that point I said, "Damn! You both need a beer." They both said, "no thanks." I said, "Well, I do." And I got up and brought another High Life into the living room and turned the sound up on my screen. Skip Carey seemed to be annoying them both as he started talking about Quilvio Veras' on base percentages vs. left handed pitchers, and I said, "This is no more boring than listening to your stats about me lopping off chickens' domes." They did NOT find that amusing and got very agitated. " I'm sorry you are narrow-minded about this, sir," the bitch said. I said, "You sure you don't want a beer? How many would it take for you to flash me?" I did not care at that point what I said. Sexual Harrassment charges intimidate me about as much as SNow White. But then the dude got up and started getting pissed and I said, "You might want to leave my crib and get the hell out of Wallace pretty quick." He said, "crib?" I go (the beer was really talking at this point), "It's a jungle thing, you wouldn't understand." They walked out and I said, "watch out for those frogs-they're poisonous!" I started laughing so hard that I started to hiccup and yelled, "Sh*t! Now you made me hiccup!" and went back in the kitchen and held my breath and took 7 gulps of High Life. That put the fukkin hiccups to bed.
My regret is that I wasn't sitting there eating a rack of ribs when they walked in. They couldn't say anything negative about me eating beanie weanies since that's nothing but concentrated pencil erasers and salt. Animal rights activists can blow me while I eat two ham biscuits and leave none for my dog.

RACK the Sax. He used to make monday mornings a little better.
