they've been pretty good except for the last 20 years or so.

It's hard to sell "lifestyle/youth" culture to a hyper-cynical, pessimistic society.

I think they deserve a lot of the blame for the reality TV craze because of Real World. Also, for them having such strong roots to New York City...they sure love to preach the virtues of southern California. I don't mind showing alternative programming to just music but the way they love to allow celebs and pop stars flaunt their wealth and status in our faces is what's turned me off. It's clearly become a style over substance culture. They're helping raise a generation of teenagers that want to look better than everyone else and have the best material possessions and if you don't have either of those attributes, they're nobody. It's not been about the music for quite a long time. MTV is winning the race with ESPN to becoming less about they used to be as a channel but ESPN has gained on them in recent years.

We're all doomed if these spoiled brats will be running the country in 10-20 years. Rich kids suck...plain and simple.

The "I Want a Celebrity Makeover", or whatever that show is called, is quite honestly the most disgusting shit I've ever seen on the TV. I'd rather let my kids watch Faces of Death, and snuff porn before that show.

Not that I have kids, but if I did.

Exactly.

They jumped the shark about 23 years ago or so.

But before that, those 6-10 videos they played weren't so bad.

One of the only good thing to come out of MTV was Liquid Television. That show introduced the world to Beavis & Butthead, Aeon Flux, and a few other goodies.

Headbanger's Ball and 120 Minutes were alright - back in the day when MTV actually played music videos. Nothing to get too excited about though unless you were just dying to see that Alanis Morissette video one more time. :meds:

The exact day was the day they decided to put Billie Jean into heavy rotation. Everything since has been one long, painful downward spiral.
